So i suppose this is where the behind the scenes advice and updates go?

Known issues are as follows. (and in no particular order, just brainstorming)

  • Suspect corroded relay under and infront of the battery cradle (pictured red relay). regularly melting fuse (pictured) behind the air intake ducting by the left front strut and engine/brake ecu fuses. not sure what these 2 are for... but not great.
  • Various "tidy as i go" in the engine bay, lots of tatty mildly corroded brackets and such, may look into powder coat if i can find enough bits, may just go with a rattle can.
  • SO MUCH BODYWORK (top of this list, bottom of the actual list)
  • Brakes need a good servicing
  • All oils, fluids, filters & belts to renew.
  • Overheat/inop rad fans.
  • Slow electric windows
  • Sticky dash
  • Crunch going into 3rd (probably a synchro, not sure if this is doable at home or not or even if i can get the bits)
  • Lots of suspension issues, HUGE amounts of lift off oversteer. Im not sure any of the factory fitted bushes have been replaced. Not sure at the minute how far i want to go with it but would like a nicely rounded "Fast Road Setup"
  • Tyres, i have a set of Fiat 5-Spoke "Blade" rims & budget tyres that i think would look half decent but id want to bring them out a touch, because standard coupes are seriously "underwheeled" by todays standards.
  • Alarm needs reinstating if im going to keep it anywhere but the garage, in the process of cad modelling a case for the M100 Fobs, but i hit a snag with the "lanyard" for it. need to have a think about how best to approach it so another one pretty far down the joblist.
  • Audio, i have a pretty entry level Sony HU with *i think* standard speakers. not going to go too nuts with Audio straight out the gate, but id like BT connectivity and im leisurely looking for a touch screen raspberry pi driven something.
  • USB Power in the cabin/saloon. i have requirement for 4 USBs when the wife and i are out and about, id love to keep this stuff as hiden as possible, open to ideas about how to achieve this,
  • sticky dash center consoles, ebay does refurb service but its £400 for the pair.... not sure how i feel about that. need to look into options.
  • HUGE AC Service needed, compressor overhaul (if anyone knows where to source the TV12SC rebuild kits for a not extorsionate price with shipping to the UK im all ears) will need as many seals as i can throw at it, a filter drier and *possibly* a condenser, but i need to assess that before pulling the trigger.
  • Fuel filler o-ring seal and Polish
  • H/light polish/restoration.
  • Addition of at least rear reverse sensors. id like fronts too, but need to look into the various systems/styles, i like the new style, flush, colour coded types. a little less invasive than most, and itll help keep the corners vaguely straight

Thats About all i can think of at the moment.... there will undoubtedly be sooooo much more

The consoles can be easily refurbished at home, whilst they are out remove rear seat, front seats, rear quarter panels and check for corrosion in the inner rear wings(behind Pininfarina badges) and the floor. (Drain holes rust). Welcome to the Porto Blue Club 👍

Thanks Al, i had the interior out to fix a water leak before i parked her up, had a good look behind there dont remember seeing much. I think i even sealed the pinin badges tangs with a blob of sealant. (The badges werent where water was getting in sadly) If i have to pull the rear quaters for sound system install ill check again thanks for the welcome

Super interested in the home refurb consoles tho... link?

Hello Richy.
Although it looks a long list, it all seems to be achievable.
I look forwards to seeing more !

hey, its what i tell my apprentices. but yes a customer should most definitely do it from a distance... wink

Moar bits turned up today in the form of a rear subframe poly kit from the guys at polyurethan.me on ebay <Seller Store Link> 4 day door to door shipping from these guys (2week turn around due to their ebay/business closing for a weeks R&R), product looks pretty decent quality. Admittedly a little less finished than kits ive had from a certain purple company in the past, BUT super happy to have them as theyre about the only people who actually list them.
Also a pair of monroe rear shocks from Autodoc slightly longer turn around for these guys which is always a shame. however my work is closely linked to DE so i know how long it can take to get things even on priority deliveries.

I’d suggest you threadlock any suspension related bolts that you take out.

I have the Osrav shocks with the Eibach springs and I kept having to tighten up the bolts, so I’ve threadlocked them and all fine since

Cheers Jamie

Yesterdays plan was to drop the gearbox, send her off for 3rd synchro.
Well thats gone to the wind.
Took 7 hours to drop both front hubs and shocks out of her.
Budget earmarked for box work will now be used to sort disks, speed sensors, and a few other bits (snapped bolts n such) may as well sort the AC with the spare £100.

Also noticed an oil leak fron OS of the sump do thatll need looking into when i finally get the undertray off.

Every single part on this is factory. Bodywork isnt too rusty for the age, undersealing was alway on the list...

Bitter sweet bank holiday monday.

taken a week off, cos work has slowed at my IRL job. perfect chance to hit the mechanical bits hard.

had a day at it yesterday, clutch in, new ABS Sensors, Poly bushes fitted to front arms and drop links, spark plugs changed, ill stick some pics up this evening of the progress.

todays plan is to drop the front sub frame to get the front ARB out see if i can get as far as lifting the rear to get that all stripped out.

weee'll i didnt get round to lifting the rear so thats one for tomorrow...
in the mean time... here you go!

https://www.thed3dl3g.uk/nextcloud/index.php/s/SyzAybYxQFsSsHm

found a few things worth noting, with the front ARB Mounts, namely the brakets, bolt at 2 different heights, and there is also a plate INSIDE the subframe that you have to remember to refit on installation. i only knew it was there because i fully removed the subframe and the drivers side one was rattling about. chinny what else... parts are super difficult to get hold of next day (read "next week") if not imposible. little bit sad i cant build the front end too much just yet. because im waiting on gearbag bits from Italy to turn up. not holding out hope of them being close this week but a man can hope. ordered them 2 weeks ago.

A busy couple of days... tank out, rear section of the exhaust off, swing arms diconnected almost had enough time to drop the rear axle/cross member/subframe today, but thats one for tomorrow. "only 4 bolts left"

rear end is in a bit of worserer state than the front. lots of flakey corrosion. found a sizable hole in the OSR wheel arch, NS seems to not suffered as hard, so ill give it a jolly good underseal and let it be on its way.

ive got access to a welder and a grinder so im not too worried about the hole just yet.

Pictures in the above link have been updated, keep meaning to take more photos, but i get too involved and forget about it. if any of you guys want anything of a particular item/ layout whilst i have it stripped ill gladly press buttons and upload.

other good news is gearbox parts came in off the pasta boat from Italy so i threw them at the g/box place. upshoot of that was 3rd synchro had cracked leading to wear on 3rd gear. should be done by midway through next week, will pick it up next friday.
pic also uploaded to the above link.

more things taken off... rear eifells probably need doing but budget is tight and its not "absolutely critical" Joe gave a decent price, so when i can start hitting OT again ill grab some off him.
rear end completely stripped now, subframe > Chassis mounts arent too bad, a little more rust than i remember being behind the pinin badges but im happy to go digging, no holes and i think its "historic" rust, one of the reasons i sealed them to stop it getting worse.
probably gonna slow down on this now until i can get welding work done, or i can slink off and sherk house responsibilities to get the bushes and bearings done.

need to free off the brake valve thing but my god the rear ARB will be a decent upgrade! looking at them side by side its quite a difference.

As before... link updated with pics https://www.thed3dl3g.uk/nextcloud/index.php/s/SyzAybYxQFsSsHm

Looks like you’re having fun with this.

On the turbo rear arb I found the ultra racing arb that supplied the wrong thickness brackets, meaning I had to pack them out, but overall I’d say the uprated rear arb to make the most difference to handling

Cheers Jamie

tbf its taking me a lot longer than i thought it would. kinda wanted it otr by mid/late oct. looking more like mid-late nov/dec. im thinking if i aim for new year, as long as nothing else major happens it'd be more realistic.. however, once ive got everything cleaned and re-bushed repaird and painted install should be relatively quick.

i am enjoying it but i underestimated how long it would take to do stuff. air tools and a 2 post lift would have really helped with speed. but air tools would have also snapped/damaged a lot more things.
