Any ideas to which works the best?

I've heard that a hairdryer can do it or putting them in the oven, if so, how long and what temperature?

Thanks in advance.

I've bought a heat gun for doing this, but just waiting on the weather to improve, so I can remove my headlights and fit my spares!!

The oven is the way to go, approx. at 90ºC, sharp point flexible knife, butter knife and some strong screwdriver, heat resistant glowes would be of great help too. Takes about half an hour to heat up well the unit. Later you have to go cutting the black adhesive all the way round, "to the bone", go in small steps, once it cools a bit - back to the oven. Once all the perimeter is cut, start lifting gently the edge of the glass. The important is to maintain it hot. Patience & gentle touch is essential. The heat gun can´t heat up the whole light assembly uniformly so there´s greater risk of cracking the glass, over/under heating in some area is problematic, in the other hand - oven - is much better.

Heat gun is fastest way. Done this many times now, and not all for the coupe. Just finished a set of evo ones... thumb

The wife's hairdryer worked a treat, 10 mins each one. Now its time to start rubbing those yellow lenses.

Hi Mikndo069 just wondering looking at your post I need to pull apart my LE lights what sort of hairdryer did you use as I am worried about the heat of a heat gun or oven, what sort of heat setting do you need it on and how far away did you keep it from the light, I tried and noticed plastic was starting to get warm, is it best to start from the back of the light? I have got a plastic pry tool so was going to use that, would appreciate any advice much appreciated Thanks Tim

Hi Tim, mikndo69's post is from many years ago and he hasn't logged on for a few months, so...

Don't worry about using a hairdryer, the headlight will warm up and the seal will gradually soften. Just work around it a few times with the pry tool as you heat it and it will separate without much fuss.

You can start anywhere.

Aim the heat at the seal, round the sides; work with one location until it softens enough for the pry tool to breach the seal. Then you'll know huch much heat the rest will need.

I take it you've acquired this set of lights from an LE model and are refurbishing them to fit to your own coop?

A tip - if you haven't already done so, dose the mounting bolts with penetrant over a number of days as they corrode and can snap off when removing the old lights.

Ah according to the LE register (found in Coupé Related Chat section) no.031 was owned by jimjimmer, no other details.

If you want to supply other details eg mileage I'm happy to bring the register up-to-date.

Yes you can edit your profile and also add an avatar so folk know which model you have when answering any questions you might have.

I believe that using a phone sometimes alters the 'smilies'...

Jimjimmer is no longer registered on the forum.

If 'Gail's' was an S reg that wouldn't tally with your T reg (which is what is stated in the LE register..)

It was a private plate I think, you can put an older plate on as newer but, I think she was from Liverpool that is the right number that was on it before
