Hey all,

It's been a long time ago in a galaxy far far away since I've been on here.

I'm looking to get a tonne of work done on my coop. I seem to remember a guy in Leicester who was also doing remaps. Done some searches on here but this is trying to dig up memories of more than a decade ago and I'm struggling for keywords!

Anyone know who that was? FCS rings a bell. Couple be wrong. Are they still trading?

Or... I'm looking for loads of work. Cutting out corrosion and welding - MOT advisories, full respray possibly a wrap, modding with a FPR and remap circa 400bhp, exhaust mod, fixing a gearbox leak (been quoted £900 strip by AutoSportivo), new radiator etc. I figure around £5k. Is county cruising still the best one-stop for most of that?

You might be thinking of John Cartlidge, Midlands Car Servicing (MCS) at Shepshed, near Loughborough. He has a Facebook page. For all the work above I think you would need to budget three to four times your figure shocked.

£6K max. I've got the prices pretty much set. I can go independently for the various bits but much easier to get it all done in one go.

Midlands car servicing. Yeah that could be it. Thanks!

I would go to FCS if I could borrow a courtesy car. Without the remapping it's a week of work at a leisurely pace.

Kind of a clique answer that!

As Wink says, you're not getting your list done for anything like £5k - sorry.

An FPR and a remap ain't getting you 400bhp. You'll need fuel pump, turbo, exhaust, intercooler, injectors, air filter, dump valve, and electronic boost control and a fair bit of live mapping as a bare minimum. There's £3k+ gone just to get near the numbers you're aiming at. To do it properly / reliably you'll also need pistons. To make it last any length of time afterwards, you'll also need rods. By the time you've got this far, you're into £5k+. Ah - clutch too - add another £1k, so we're at £6k already before you've even started on the rust. Oh yes, the gearbox needs fixing, so at least £500 on top (do it while the clutch is being replaced)

If you have any sense, you'll also upgrade the suspension and brakes (400bhp will get you into a LOT of trouble in a Coupe with standard brakes and suspension). Another £2k £3k needed.

My guess is that you won't see much change out of your budget just for the welding and paint. If you know you have corrosion, I guarantee that there will be far more than you thought.

I'd be amazed if you could do even a minimal restoration and 400bhp tune for anything less than five figures. To do it properly, £15k minimum. To do it really well - closer to £20k

Ask me how i know....

Don't you remember me or my car?

I have literally had every mod ready done that you mention, except suspension (I never bothered beyond an OEM refresh on this countries roads). My coop runs about 320bhp on 1.3bar GT2871R. All I'm missing is the FPR and a remap, but I'll limit it by what I think the internals and injectors will do, then turn it down a bit.

I know places that can do a full respray for £1600, but I'd have a few extra bits done. The corrosion is just the wheel arches. Everything else passes MOT without issues. Underside chassis rust is remarkably little.

AutoSportivo already quoted me £900 for a gearbox rebuild.

That's good value for a respray
