Hi All,

Just to say I had a great day running at the Pod on the weekend in my coupe. For those who don't know I'm running 300 bhp and 290 lbs/ft torque with a PA FMIC and Superspool Turbo. I have run the coupe before at the pod (2 years ago) when it was standard and managed a 14.7 second quarter.

This time the best I could only manage a 13.85 second quarter at 99mph. I only performed five runs on the day, 3 with my 18" rims and two with 16" rims on the front. Also the runners were driving straight into a strong head wind and quite a few people found that this ate into their terminal speeds (third gear felt like driving through treacle.

A big thanks must go to Rog et all from powerfiat for diagnosing the frayed auxbelt the friday before. I think everyone should jack their car up this weekend, take their undertray off and have a little look at their own aux belts.

Also another big thanks must go out to SIMMA for teaching me quarter mile racing techniques. Since I only managed to get the good time on the final run when I actually listened to him. S1MMA getting 13.95 is impressive with only his gtech 1 and I know why he has been able to do it.

Best time with the 18" rims was 14 seconds dead. Changing to the smaller rims really did make a difference (when lowered to 26psi).

On an ideal day and a decent driver I'm sure my coupe could do mid 13s. I offered S1MMA the chance to run my car and get a great time but he was more concerned with me getting into the 13s not the car!

There was a lot of smack talking between myself and a mate who owns a seat ibiza cupra R with about 250bhp leading up to this, but for some unforseen reason the car wasn't producing the goods on the day - 92mph terminal ???

I raced a Rover MG (blue, stripped out) on the day and he said that he knew Trappy. I think he won the race but I waited on the line for about 1.5 seconds and tried to reel him in at the end (I got a much better time) but was a little too cocky!

Went up with the Seat forum crew for the day and they were a nice and friendly bunch of lads. One of the lads had a fast 300 bhp leon cupra which had the edge on mine on the day. But there will be a rematch (roll on GT28RS).

Pierre

yeah sure, get a great launch, go through the gears quickly, hold your car in a straight line, and then curse why you didn't get in the 13s again.

I have a few techniques that I use on the launch, if you see me at the pod sometime then I'll fill you in. Cant explain it by typing, you have to get a feel for the technique. (there's plenty of ways of launching though, my way works for me, may not work for everyone).

I've had a bloody good go at them all - handbrake, different revs etc. I think my biggest problem was I could not be ars&d to lower the tyre pressures. I also need more practise - on the road I very very rarely launch the car - more fun to let the other car go first!

tyre pressures are a big thing IMO, as well as rim size. Are you running on standard 16s on your runs or on bigger rims?

Gouki's 13.8 was acheived on tyre pressures of 26psi, my 13s run was at approx 22psi. 30psi+ is no good for getting a good launch, although you need to run this on the road depending on what load you are carrying, and speeds you are doing.

well I did my 13.9 on crappy cheap tyres (I run F1s on the road all round - had some old tyres to burn out on some spare rims), low 20 PSi tyre pressure, did a sizable burnout before the run, then used my own version of the handbrake technique for a good launch. 2 quick gearchanges later and thats all she wrote.

300 bhp will get a low 13 - my best was 13.37 when running about 305bhp.

Hello Komster,

It's good that you've got the new clutch fitted mate and I hope to see your car again soon. It was seriously rapid through London when I went out in it some time ago.

Howver all is not well mate - I've broken my leg (tibia and fibia) back in November and had it pinned. You'll guess how I did it mate. I'm on the mend though.

Jimbo's moved over to the dark side has he? Funny, he's been complaining about idling problems in his coupe for ages now. I thought he sorted them. TBH I've been moonlighting on the dark side as well (GTR forum).

Dude!!!

WTF!!!!!

You alright mate?...Jeeeez, next time just smack the canvas a bit harder bro

Load up on AS much Amino's as you can mate and still work the opoposing leg, as it will actually help the injured side.

Well...Got the car back today and not used a 450lb clucth, so managed to stall it half dozen times on the way back home...Seriously mean clutch Nice!

I also was on the Gtr forum. Was looking at a R33..OR an R34 Gtts I think it was....then again, cant see my self ever going back to 2wd again, so it was the R33 Gtr...However, found that they needed to be in excess of 350+ Bhp to out do me and even though thats peanuts for the 33gtr, (2.6, Straight 6, TT) I couldnt warrent the cost of a car thats almost identical spec to 100Mph....But costs so much more to run. The Insurance was £3000 PA, on limited 3000 Miles, in a garage, no mods with 7 yrs NCB!

FUKDAT! LOL!!!!

Stock internals are good for 340-350 Bhp untill they start to spit out pistons on ours, and it'd cost relatively bugga all to get there.....btw...I was running 0.4 bar in 1st & 2nd last time Sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiightly more now
Have learnt the errors of my ways!

Well....hope the leg heals up mate
Hope to see you and the mean machine back on form soon!
Komster!
