I got my engine replaced a couple weeks back and had her rolling roaded today just to check out the fuelling as my ECU is running a Unichip still mapped to the old engine. Mapping was done by Owen Developments.

The old engine was making 233bhp @ 5859rpm and 251 lb/ft @ 3544rpm. Today with the replacement unit the results were 183bhp @ 5826rpm and 215 lb/ft @ 3200rpm The new engine seems to run perfectly, but just doesn't seem to have as much grunt.

The operator did say that it was fuelling quite rich at 7% whereas normal is around 4%, but what that means in terms of AFR i have no idea Regardless, I wouldn't have thought that a little rich running would cost me 50bhp.
At the same time as the engine swap, I also had a Pace FMIC fitted so I would have expected at least to make the same power as the old engine. Ok, the Unichip needs a bit of remapping, but again i wouldn't expect it to cost me this much in terms of power loss.

Does anybody have any ideas as to what might be causing my low figures? I'm still running the EBV and I'm thinking that either its probably FUBAR or i have a boost leak somewhere? Unfortunately, the rolling road i went to wasn't able to monitor boost levels.

Finally, can anyone tell me what to look for to see if the Unichip is stil fitted? Reason i'm asking is because my car went to FAST initially and when i kicked them into touch (for various reasons) and got the car trailered to Motormech instead, it was missing a few things.

50bhp missing from running rich is possible if its running rich at the top end!

Also, 7% is quite rich. I was recently told i was running 10% which equates to 10afr. 4.5 afr is the recommened however thats around 13afr which is too lean for the coupe, i've been told.

That's some serious drop off in torque ! It looks like it is indeed running very rich at the top end (the wiggles in the power curve are very similar to my pre-Unichip ones). When I had my Unichip fitted, I gained about 30bhp by removing fuel, so it is indeed possible that a good proportion of the loss is down to that . If you still have the Unichip connected with your old settings, this may explain why it is so rich now, as the fuel map will be totally different.

I'm sure that the massive torque drop also has something to do with boost as well. It could be the Pace FMIC contributing, as these are dual pass and generally recognised as not being as free-flowing as most of the other FMICs.

I would get yourself a single pass intercooler - the pace units are no good at all really. The only good thing about them is lack of cutting on the car. Or get pace to weld new end tanks on it so it isn't dual pass anymore.

On the standard Turbo I found an EVO replica FMIC utterly strangled the top end of the car. The PACE one is renowned for being restrictive and will only be worse. I'd go back to the standard IC or go for a different turbo. Has the new engine been well and truly run in?

Agree, I would ditch the PACE unit definately ,the loss in torque is so alarming to suggest you even have an air leak , might also explain your engine running rich as well.

If i knew the Pace FMIC so crap then i would never have bought it. Also, if the Pace unit is so restrictive, will it not withstand me upgrading to a bigger turbo in the future? Is it so bad that I'd be better off refitting the standard SMIC? I don't have the cash to buy another different FMIC right now.

The engine was from a 2000 Plus with 59K under its belt so it was definately well run in!

sorry to say the Pace FMIC is crap IMHO. You could ask Pace how much it would be to re-do the end tanks so it isn't dual pass. That might be your cheapest way to a decent intercooler. Or else sell it on I suppose.

But if the torque is so low it could also be a boost leak as mentioned. I presume you have a boost gauge and the boost looks normal (it may still be leaking boost)

Stating the bleeding obvious..thats way down. I had major problems with mine running way too lean and burning holes in the valves. Power at wheels was 198Hp. Fitted a Gtech only and had an expert fiddle with it and its now doing 220Hp at the wheels and 245Hp at the flywheel, running on standard smic/ebv etc. Only problem when booted on the rollers is a boost spike which needs sorting. Fuelling appears to be the key.

I'd take it to another RR for starters. Been to a couple here..some are good and some are crap..results vary wildly which shouldn't be the cars fault.

Well the car is definately down on power compared to before with the old engine. I can feel the power and torque build up to around 3500rpm and then you can feel it just tail off really badly. Before you could thrust along on a wall of torque between 2500rpm - 5000rpm and it was mega.

Booked in for a service at Motormech next month and getting the standard SMIC put back on and also having my Greddy Profec B fitted at the same time too. Fingers crossed.
