All valid points but in my opinion, for the money, nothing comes close.

5k buys you a lot of car + performance, if you split the spend between initial purchase + running costs.

I sold mine what seems like an age ago to a fellow forum member after owning it for 2 years. I have a sneaking suspicion I'll be coming back as I'm changing jobs and losing the company car... .

I'm in the same position as you, Civic_Legend. I have changed jobs and have decided to opt out of the company car scheme mainly so that I can finally get to own a Coop!

Half of me is a bit worried about the whole idea, I mean I know I'll get loads of smiles per hour, but I'm leaving behind a fully expensed, reliable, sensible 2004 BMW 320d.

Still, I've talked myself into owning the coop on the premise that I can get one for £4k, drive it for 6 months and sell it back for the same price.

Although that would be a sad day.

Wish I hadn't sold mine 2 years ago - traded it in for a brand new 182 cup which is great when you're in the mood but when you're not is so ordinary, just doesn't feel special to be in. Plus it always attracts the wrong kind of attention, people try to race you ALL the time, get bored of it. I never seemed to get that in the coop, people would move over for you on motorways and smile as you went past!!

I miss it dearly, the looks, the noise, the magic 3rd gear....still, once the clio is paid in 12 months time I'm jumping straight into a mint plus or le (if I can find one that is).

I even considered and test drove a 3.0 gtv but the coop still felt miles better!

I enjoyed owning the Coupé for two years but I'm not that sad to see it go, especially as my new car is a lot of fun and has a similar power/weight ratio.

I would, however, really miss this forum if it were for Coupé owners only, but luckily it isn't

Thats what I like about the clio- ordinary when having to drive normally- fuel comsumption/no paranoia etc but then it can be mental at other times. Get it on track before it goes to really see what it'll do. The cars I've had try to race me always seem to be Elises nothing else

I sold my old one 6 years ago. I regretted it instantly and I don't really understand why it's taken all this time to get another.

Similar story here. Always wanted a Coupe bought one in 2000 and then sold it a year later when our first child was born. It was a silly thing to do really as I lost a lot of money on it and it was pretty much perfect (as coupes go) and only 4 years old.

Last year I was running 3 motorbikes but my wife reckoned we should sell a couple and get another Coupe.

well seeing as ive had the car since november and spent 800 quid on doing essentially nothing new to it, im willing to take that chance

Sold mine last October, wish I could have kept it but didn't have the space.......especially with the Cerbie arriving!! My one was amazingly reliable (and not just compared to the Tiv), I was doing 25k miles a year and all it needed was usual maintenance. I had it for 3 years and it had 124k miles on it when I sold it and was still going strong.

I miss the ease of driving it, the Cerb is more of an event each time you go out, but when it is dark and raining the Coop was much more confident. Also, it was standard and I was finding that as time went on more new cars were able to keep up with it.

The Coop is a great all round car, but I'm glad I was able to move onto the Cerbera!!

A very fair point. The one thing that really frustrates me about the Coupe is that it just isn't refined enough and with a little more development it could have been sooo much better. Some BMW engineering with the Italian styling would have made the coupe perfect

For the money it is a great buy and after nearly 3 years i still look back at the car every time I park it and smile. I suspect only an Aston could do the same thing for me

Totally with you on the looks front - I keep tripping over when walking away because I can't take my eyes off it.

Not really. I loved it when I had it and it didn't cost me much to keep but eventually as with anything the novelty becomes the norm. The performance I doubt I will see again for a while and the looks from certain angles , best for me was from the rear diagonals down the side of the car. I never quite got used the the front end.

Its impressive for the money you pay and still turns heads, the best part for me about ownership was this forum which I still frequent but I dont see myself rushing back to coop ownership anytime soon. 4 doors is a must these days

I'm on my second coupe, i loved my first one that much that i knew i would one day be coming back to coupe ownership with a plus. Ended up with a stunning electric blue plus which always makes me smile when i see it. for the money nothing feels as special.

I'm coming back! - does everyone think the coupe is an ideal car for someone who does around 5000 miles a year max? - like me!, I reckon so - this is the reason I'm getting another one.
