Just out of interest, as I know a few of you on here don't have one anymore.
Would you get another?
Anything you really miss about it?

Yes, that would be me. I really miss being more involved in this community, the sound of the Coupe (tunnels no longer have any appeal), the Coupes appearance and its ability to make you feel good about yourself. I don't miss the paranoia, the group buys and other 'running costs' (£££), the drive to Powerfiat and the understeer on track. At this moment in time when i'm having a hard time at life in general I should have bought another Coupe, the Celica is needing a lot of work at the moment, and doesn't give me that pleasure of ownership (same as the 172 and MX5 incidentally).
Corvette C6 (manual of course)

Sold my one recently. That was my second one as i had a 16vt before. I miss the looks and the torque but i dont miss the bills and the whats going to break next feeling.
I will also miss the meets, as the guys up this way are spot on.
My new car is an Accord Type R, which doesnt have the same straight line speed, but it goes round corners sooo much better than the coupe, the brakes are great, got decent space inside and sounds amazing in tunnels on VTEC. Oh and revving till 8000rpm puts a smile on your face every time.

Ooh there's a difficult question.
I do miss my old one but I realised I couldnt make a good car into my perfect car, so I had to move on.
I still haven't found the perfect car so I'm not sure I'm any further on. At least the Coop was cheap but ultimately for me the lack of engineering and quality feel ended the love affair. After lots of money on mods I realised I couldnt improve it and just got too frustrated with the whole thing.
If I fall on hard times I might get another but I'm growing older and uncompromising sports cars are losing their appeal.

I don't miss either of mine and would never buy another one either. I have had one std and one fairly heavily modded, what would be the point in coming back, its just a step backwards. Sure I will probably never go as fast in a straight line in a car again, but its not all about that. And my current drive is attracting so much attention then either of my coops ever did. I agree with Cosmo a bit as well, the one thing I wish I had of done, was to not maybe swap for modded, but keep my standard one and just lightly mod it. I did love my 300bhp coop and the power was immense, but I missed the point of what I was trying to do, I made the car quite difficult to use on my local roads, which was a shame I find now with V6 power, I can drive alot quicker in any conditions, as you can get the power down so much quicker from any revs. So not only would I never own a coop again, I would also never own a high powered turbo again, well not one where the lag is as pronounced as the coop was.

what would be the point in coming back, its just a step backwards. I took a step backwards ... it took me 7-years to go back to coop ownership with a car worth £5k. When I bought my first coop it cost me £26k! My last car cost £64k, but I didn't let that put me off getting another coop

I've had 3 coupes and don't miss owning one, at all. They are lovely looking cars and the 'bang for your buck' is second to none But like Lou has said, I too will miss the meets, because the sight of a dozen coupes driving down Kenilworth High Street was just amazing

Had 3 and this one will be the last. Its getting too old and too expensive to fix. Great drive and great fun but it don't half cost. My '96 will have cost me €5k in 2 years to keep on the road. Not including, tax, insurance, petrol etc. Just repairs.
Got 2 Fiats now: Coupe and Barchetta. B is a scream..much better than an MX5 but too small and a pain in a damp climate where you only get the roof down 1 day in 10...toy car.
I'll get tarred and feathered and run out of the forum but I'm looking at a Focus ST if I can find one that doesn't look like a boy-racer project.

I somewhat agree with Skodaman, coupe's are getting older now and more expensive to keep on the road. I've spent loads on the thing in the past 3,5 years (and quite a lot on the previous one as well) and still it gives you the feeling it might break anytime. They are wonderful cars though, love the look and feel of them. But this will probably be my last coupe and I'm quite often looking at alternatives nowadays. On the other hand it could well be that I'll keep it for a few more years, you do get quite attached to them.

This thread is really depressing me!
I can't wait to pick up my first Coop, and was expecting lots of people saying that they wish they hadn't sold theirs.
Surely there are people out there who miss them loads?

Hmm, not sure how to take that one And I almost bought JimO's coupe before you jayzee Maybe I've just been unlucky with my 3 but all have cost me a lot of money. It took until my 3rd for me to realise that coupes and my wallet just aren't compatible.

Mines having a lot of work done at the moment, when I get the bill from Rog I'll let you know. So, are you getting out of the fold then? I wasn't sure what you meant because you still currently own one

I'd have another if I didn't have a mortgage to pay by myself. I really miss not having one, especially the looks and the turbo kick. In fact, I was thinking the other day if I could afford 2 cars I'd have a Coupe (electric blue or yellow Plus) and an MX-5. I'd be well happy with those!

I could'nt sell my Coop, well not at the moment if I blew the engine I think I would chop it and buy a whole new car, such is the bargain s/h prices for the performance.
I am unsure why people have spent £K's on their Coops? Mine has a sniff of mods and although I could go on I feel the car becomes unreliable and all the problems start, for the money big mods don't make sense IMO. In nearly 2 years I have had a new clutch and servicing as well as a few quid on a chip, rr, induction and a bit of bling, certainly nothing big mechanically speaking......
Sor for about 5.2K including the purchase of the car I have a powerful, relatively comfortable, Italian steed that I love. Sad aern't I.

Well, I've had mine 6 years through two redundancies, borderline bankruptancy and god knows what else. There has always been a pressure to sell and release a few quid for something more deserving but I have never been able to do it. In reality it's not cost a lot to run, it still looks fantastic, is plenty quick enough and *touch wood* has been very reliable. So no, I haven't sold and wish I hadn't, I've not sold and glad I didn't

Finally this is becoming more positive.
I might still have to start a:

I do miss my coupe, although I only had it for 14 months (I think?) Used to put a smile on my face everytime I drove/cleaned it. It didnt cost me that much to run but I only did about 5k a year. It did have that wow factor about it. I had only wanted one for 8 years when I fianally got it.
I dont miss the paranoia or having to let the turbo cool down or taking a detour to make sure it warms up properly on a short drive.
I changed it for a 5dr Hatch, which is really nice to drive but a bit slow (1.6) Up until about a week ago I was still looking at coming back to the fold, but I have seen too many dogs, its just not going to work. I have now moved on and while I look and smile if I see one like a kid in a candy shop, I just cannot see myself owning another. There are so many cars that can replace the coupe for performance IMO and if I did want a performance model then it would be something newer like a Focus ST, Astra VXR, Mazda 3 MPS with some family practicality and one the wife would drive.

All valid points but in my opinion, for the money, nothing comes close.
5k buys you a lot of car + performance, if you split the spend between initial purchase + running costs.

This is more like it!
I'm in the same position as you, Civic_Legend. I have changed jobs and have decided to opt out of the company car scheme mainly so that I can finally get to own a Coop!
Half of me is a bit worried about the whole idea, I mean I know I'll get loads of smiles per hour, but I'm leaving behind a fully expensed, reliable, sensible 2004 BMW 320d.
Still, I've talked myself into owning the coop on the premise that I can get one for £4k, drive it for 6 months and sell it back for the same price.
Although that would be a sad day.

Wish I hadn't sold mine 2 years ago - traded it in for a brand new 182 cup which is great when you're in the mood but when you're not is so ordinary, just doesn't feel special to be in. Plus it always attracts the wrong kind of attention, people try to race you ALL the time, get bored of it. I never seemed to get that in the coop, people would move over for you on motorways and smile as you went past!!
I miss it dearly, the looks, the noise, the magic 3rd gear....still, once the clio is paid in 12 months time I'm jumping straight into a mint plus or le (if I can find one that is).
I even considered and test drove a 3.0 gtv but the coop still felt miles better!

I enjoyed owning the Coupé for two years but I'm not that sad to see it go, especially as my new car is a lot of fun and has a similar power/weight ratio. So ... no. I would, however, really miss this forum if it were for Coupé owners only, but luckily it isn't

Thats what I like about the clio- ordinary when having to drive normally- fuel comsumption/no paranoia etc but then it can be mental at other times. Get it on track before it goes to really see what it'll do. The cars I've had try to race me always seem to be Elises nothing else I too miss the noise and the magic 3rd gear but the clio has rawness and track-ability as standard. When I move and have space for a track dedicated car I may well come back...

I sold my old one 6 years ago. I regretted it instantly and I don't really understand why it's taken all this time to get another. Similar story here. Always wanted a Coupe bought one in 2000 and then sold it a year later when our first child was born. It was a silly thing to do really as I lost a lot of money on it and it was pretty much perfect (as coupes go) and only 4 years old. Last year I was running 3 motorbikes but my wife reckoned we should sell a couple and get another Coupe. John

Sold mine last October, wish I could have kept it but didn't have the space.......especially with the Cerbie arriving!! My one was amazingly reliable (and not just compared to the Tiv), I was doing 25k miles a year and all it needed was usual maintenance. I had it for 3 years and it had 124k miles on it when I sold it and was still going strong.
I miss the ease of driving it, the Cerb is more of an event each time you go out, but when it is dark and raining the Coop was much more confident. Also, it was standard and I was finding that as time went on more new cars were able to keep up with it.
The Coop is a great all round car, but I'm glad I was able to move onto the Cerbera!!

A very fair point. The one thing that really frustrates me about the Coupe is that it just isn't refined enough and with a little more development it could have been sooo much better. Some BMW engineering with the Italian styling would have made the coupe perfect For the money it is a great buy and after nearly 3 years i still look back at the car every time I park it and smile. I suspect only an Aston could do the same thing for me

Trouble is mate, the coupe wasn't BMW money when new Totally with you on the looks front - I keep tripping over when walking away because I can't take my eyes off it.

Not really. I loved it when I had it and it didn't cost me much to keep but eventually as with anything the novelty becomes the norm. The performance I doubt I will see again for a while and the looks from certain angles , best for me was from the rear diagonals down the side of the car. I never quite got used the the front end. Its impressive for the money you pay and still turns heads, the best part for me about ownership was this forum which I still frequent but I dont see myself rushing back to coop ownership anytime soon. 4 doors is a must these days
