Hi, I am new to the forums and looking at buying my first coupe.. I have read the buying guide and see the benefits of buying from a member however I have seen the below advertised:

FIAT Coupe 20V Turbo, X reg.
82000 miles, metallic black, fsh, alloys, climate control, CD player, Cat 1 alarm, pas, e/windows, first to see will buy, suit enthusiast, 1 years MoT, c/c taken, p/x welcome. £4,200

Could I ask anyone's opinion on price spec etc? I know its hard without seeing the car but if I go the 200 miles to view it (not many coupes for sale around Scarborough area!) I will take the buying guide with me.

Also I know its off topic but I have had an insurance quote of £800 for the above model - I am 24 with 4 years no claims.

Any other tips welcome..

Sounds good from the advert and seems well priced. Make sure that advert is truthful and be sure to check the service history. You could follow up with a call to garage that serviced just to be sure!

Mileage is fairly high but coupe's are easy to drive and just eat the miles - Obviously you want a tidy example, the advert does not mention condition! Ask if any dings, dents, scrapes and have the alloys been kerbed?

Sounds worth a look to me, would ask about the service history, if by one of the well know specialists:

Motormech
Powerfiat
Torque Italia
L&M
Wigan Paul
AutoIntegrale

Then you should be in reasonble shape, if all done by Fiat, its okay and better than Kwik Fit but not as ideal as those mentioned above - thus the car should be checked out carefully.

Cambelt should of been done - check the service history to see who/when etc.

If possible ask one of the current owners to go with you or meet you there for some onsite advice.

I have a bit more info after speaking to the seller - it had the cambelt replaced two weeks ago, and not along ago had the timing belt, exhaust manifold and turbo replaced.

He has said that the paint work is immaculate and the car is in a very good condition

Thinking of driving down either this weekend coming or early next week to take a look - hope its worth the 600 mile round trip!!

I'm thinking of taking the plunge and buying a Coupe but none of the recommended specialist garages seems to be anywhere near me (I'm in Selby, North Yorks).

I seem to remember when I previously considered a Coupe a couple of years ago that there was a specialist garage in Leeds. Have they gone out of business now?

The specialists listed apart from L&M do not normally sell Coupes. Afraid you have to do your homework and purchase wisely.

Cambelt AND Timing Belt done?? do you mean the auxiluary belt.

What about tensioners etc.

We have a section here for people willing to look... so I guess you can only ask.

Seem to remember some of the Leeds-based guys use Turin Motors, but I also remember mixed reports.

Also FAST in Stockton have been recommended by several guys in the North East which might not be too far from you as you are in North Yorkshire

Turin Motors have never let me down - they've checked over both the ones I've bought and got it spot on - and they look after our Barchetta too.

Some of the 'mod' boys have had a problem or two - surprised Joe hasn't beaten me to the post here - but if you get a standard one that's in good shape they can be trusted, although for bigger jobs I'd recommend you take the drive to Basildon or Wigan. You can't beat Powerfiat

Edited to say price doesn't sound too bad - and I pay £500 for insurance but I'm 38.
