Yes…. I know… Turbo again.

I have learnt a lot about the 28R but there was very little information about the GTiR.
I am looking for over 300bhp and acceleration (35/40 to 80mph) in 3rd gear.
Is the 28R really worth the extra money?
Does any one have any experience of the GTiR?
I will have FMIC, 3” downpipe, Gtec2, straight induction.

Go for the 28R.

I have the GTiR, but if i was doing it again i'd go for the 28R. It's the one you want if yor intent on 300+ bhp and should work nicely with your mods.

I have the superspool version of GTiR and it is a superb unit, I'm sure I've seen recently someone has passed the 300 bhp mark but also using aquamist. You will be pretty lag free aswell.

If you want ultimate power then 28r (roller bearing) is probably the way to go.

I believe there is also very little lag on the 28R.

Passing 300hp on the GTiR is easily possible as DocFrag got about 325 i believe. But the turbo isn't really efficient at this stage. Much easier with the roller bearing.

If I had my time again I would agree and go the 28R route, cos I'm a boost junkie. Can have lots more boost with the roller at higher revs.....lovely idea.

V666 dont forget to upgrade the fuel pump or atleast the wiring ( if not both).

Thanks, at last my mind can rest with a descision on the 28R
As those that have the GTiR say that they would fit the 28R if doing it again, that is good enough for me.

ps. I have changed the fuel pump and the wiring (was not as bad a job as I thought, took about 2 hours).

I have just upgraded from standard to gt28r and the difference is amazin. Definately worth the money! If looking for 300bhp then gt28r is the way to go. Its the most efficient way to get there...

Yes it is. .64 or .84 are the options for it, different o intake housing sizes i believe.

Ive seen GT28RS and R for sale but it says its for the 180/200sx CA18/CA20 Engine. Is that the same one that can be fitted to the coupe or is a different size?

what is the price on a gt28r? are they easy to fit by yourself (not by a mechanic), what fuel pump would you reconmend to use with it? walbro 255 perhaps?

If you get it from barbz, i think it's about £1k.
You can get it cheaper elsewhere i believe, although you will need to ssource the adaptor flange for the downpipe and various other bits and pieces yourself.

Fitting isn't too tricky. Just the same as fitting a standard turbo i'm pretty sure.

Most people use the walbro 255 pump when they upgrade.

This is the quote I got from turbodynamics for the fitting kit if I bought just the turbo. So I will be going to Barbz to get mine.

We can supply the fitting kit for the 20V, the kit contents as follows....

Down pipe adaptor with V-band fitment
Air inlet Adaptor
Air Outlet Adaptor
Oil Drain pipe
Modified actuator and Bracket with rod end
Boost nipple
Oil feed pipe complete
Gasket & stud kit

You can source everything you need from the US i think. Cant remember the company name though. It was on the old forum so someone will probably still have the info kicking about.

The 28r is not a great deal better than the hybrid turbo in terms of power or torque output, the difference is the 28r is more efficient at that power and will most probably last 3 times as long due to the roller bearing core been allot more robust.

The waste gate you get from atp turbo with the 28r is fine, the oil feed pipe is not essential, the only part you will have to buy off TD is the down pipe adaptor flange which they sell for around 100 pounds I believe, but only if you intend to keep the standard down pipe, if your having a custom one made you can have it made to fit the 5 bolt flange the 28r comes with, the rest of the parts including the turbo can be bought from atp turbo for 937 dollars or 529 pounds including delivery to U.K

To be honest..... If u buy the one that says its for the sx the housing needs to be switched round to fit the coupe. As for sourcing parts etc gd luck!!

Personally i used Barbz and it was just so much easier. Plus you get input from Barbz on how to setup etc.

The one im looking at comes with standard housing so i would need to get the extra bits, but i'll need to get some advice on fitment etc, ill probably try and convince rog to do it, will make a change from all the crappy jobs oil changes he has todo

And i i've bought the fmic, uprated fuel pump, sbc id3, coilover kit, anti roll bar kit, so this is the next logical step, then its headwork and maybe a 2.4 conversion.

The choice between a unichip or gtec 2 is the hardest choice atm.

Thats a pretty good price for the 28R to be honest but the rs is just outta reach

Any ideas why we cant get these this cheap in the UK and have to go to such lengths?? silly i think to be honest

If my turbo needs a new core this is the way i will probably go to be honest as im so let down by the current heap of scrap im thinking of just get rid, Barbz superspool is a tempting turbo but the price is equal to this and with the adapter flange just over equalstill leaning towards the 28R more...

Forgot to add the compressor inlet and outlets are not needed to fit the rs, 71r and 3071wg they have them on already so perhaps 50 quid cheaper than you think, also by buying the unit outright instead of an exchange basis you can sell your old turbo for around 100 quid to offset the cost further.

There are a few places in the U.K that sell garrett turbo's,when i was looking apex performance parts were the cheapest so I got mine from there.

they also sell or can get most the other garret turbos although there a bit slow, I had to wait 3 weeks for mine, I’m not sure if they sell the compressor inlets and outlets for the 28r but I know they can be bought from Nissan or from a Nissan breaker, you could also take advantage of a group buy

p.s akeme you will need the .64 or 86 for a 20vt or .63 or .84 for a 16vt the .6x been the faster spooling units .8x been more powerul.
