I keep a list of the main expenditure items on my car (excluding fuel, road tax and insurance)
I'm not going to publicly state the amount for fear of wifey finding out, but has anyone else kept a log of what they've bought and what it cost?
Without the amounts and in roughly chronological order, my list looks like this:
Discs & pads strut brace replace turbo, & oil change replace turbo replace turbo turbo handbrake cables, r pads braided hoses fit hoses fit clutch, rollbar, service clutch rollbar oil & filter throttle cable slave cyl fit turbo, wheel bearing brembo kit service brembos dump valve supersprint wheels intercooler blitz chargecooler engine & box ramair shocks springs fuel pump harnesses race seat & brackets gauges discs turbo upgrade braided hoses airbox handbrake cables aircon regas x 2 aircon pipes camcover more gauges lower brace Mintex pads Mats Race tyres second pre-rad Novitec ARB FMIC 7 et plugs 3G discs service Fit rear ARB H&S downpipe Fit H&S downpipe supply & fit Supersprint ctr pipe Zender & mesh Radiator & fit GT2871 turbo C&B cams Head clutch pistons build & fit engine 3G discs pads refurb wheels straight induction remap Unichip DBA discs remap fit new breather remap new flywheel TPS seats seat mounting plates & machining New phase sensor & H.Brake cables Brembo seal kit overhaul calipers discs & pads mirrors & lights battery respray ANOTHER set of brake hoses Oil for service service & wishbones / bushes Race tyres wipers remap

I started to keep a list with costs, but it just got scary ! To summarise two and a half years of ownership, it would probably go something like this: Engine - Cam-belt change, bi-end shells and about 3 changes of oil before blow up at Castle Combe in May 2006 . Then rebuilt on original block with forged pistons, new head & exhaust valves, 3-angle valve seats, C&B cams, new crank, rods, plugs, and probably another 3 changes of oil since then . Powder coated cam cover, plenum, inlet manifold and fuel rail. Walker/GTA clutch. Cooling - removal of knackered undertray, PACE radiator, FMIC, removal of A/C rad Turbo - GTiR hybrid with 0.8 bar actuator fitted and then rebuilt twice , boost gauge, PRV replaced with Greddy EBC ECU & Fuel - GTEC1, tried GTEC2 but decided against it, then Unichip at PTS followed by remap at Perfect Touch. Walbro 255 pump with wiring upgrade, ultrasonic injector clean Exhaust - Replaced cracked manifold with newer version, H&S downpipe, Supersprint, race cat then decat Induction - 57i in original location, then SIP with K&N filter, then Apexi on SIP with 90 degree bend for winter months Suspension - straight for the billies & Eibachs with new top mounts, strut brace, then Dedra front ARB, Novitech rear ARB, poly bushes, -1.5 neg camber by slotting hub-carrier holes Brakes - Original discs ditched for front Black Diamond grooved with Pagid Blues, then 3Gs with Pagid Greys (Textars on rear), now DBA4000 wipers slots on front with Pagid Yellows ! Soon to be Tarox rear brake upgrade and possibly front 2-pieces. Front and rear calipers recently refurbed and painted. Goodridge flexi hoses (front and rear), now back to standard fronts until Goodridge get their 'issues' sorted out . DoT 5.1 fluid change, since replaced with at least two lots of Motul 600RBF Tyres - Pirelli P Zero Assymetricos replaced rubbish that was on the car when I bought it, now replaced with Toyo T1Rs. Two sets of Dunlop D01J track tyres Styling - PIU front bumper, colour coded sills and rear bumper (soon to be LE skirts), black badges Interior - Tan interior changed to black, cloth seats initially, now 6-speed leather, steering wheel, silver centre console & door pulls, black speedo rings, boost guage in Nomad pillar pod I've also invested in a fair few tools in that time as well, as I can't resist doing things myself, but like to have hte best items to do the job with . I think that's enough, don't you ! Phil

In nearly 3 years on a '98 95000 mile 20vt:
service x 2 oil cooler replaced (rusty pipes so pre-emptive replacement) Water leak repair (not serious but wanted it right) air con re-gas
Maybe £1000 all in.
No depreciation and no hefty purchase cost.

I have spent about £4000 but thats likely to go up alot this year as im getting new wheels and a respray.
Nearly all of that amount has been spent on modification, only a about £800 has been spent on servicing/cambelt/wishbones in the last 2 years, which is very impressive to me considering how much i spent on my rx7.

Just off the top of my head i'd have to say...
£3600 (conservative figure) in under 1 and a half years of ownership. Which, considering i'm a student, is just plain insane!
Little of this has been 'maintanence' however, damn groups buys.

My list has amassed over three and a half years and 80,000 miles However, an awful lot of the expenditure has been in my quest for power, not just to keep it on the road the bold items are ones I WANTED, not NEEDED Discs & pads strut bracereplace turbo, & oil change replace turbo replace turboturbo handbrake cables, r pads braided hosesfit hoses fit clutch, rollbar, service clutch rollbaroil & filter throttle cable slave cyl fit turbo, wheel bearing brembo kit service brembos dump valvesupersprintwheels intercooler blitz chargecoolerengine & boxramair shocks springs fuel pump harnesses race seat & brackets gaugesdiscs turbo upgrade braided hoses airboxhandbrake cables aircon regas x 2 aircon pipes camcover more gauges lower brace Mintex padsMats R ace tyres second pre-rad Novitec ARB FMIC 7 et plugs 3G discsservice Fit rear ARB H&S downpipe Fit H&S downpipe supply & fit Supersprint ctr pipe Zender & mesh Radiator & fit GT2871 turbo C&B cams Head clutch pistons build & fit engine3G discs pads refurb wheels straight induction remap Unichip DBA discs remap fit new breather remap new flywheelTPS seats seat mounting plates & machiningNew phase sensor & H.Brake cables Brembo seal kit overhaul calipers discs & pads mirrors & lightsbattery resprayANOTHER set of brake hoses Oil for service service & wishbones / bushesRace tyres wipers remapso, when you look at it, the amount of money I've HAD to spend is not bad at all for a nine year old 160,000 mile car. When you also consider that its putting out close to double its designed bhp, the fact that it doesn't simply fall apart is testament to the fact that it has to be one of the best-built Fiats ever (probably because Fiat didn't build it )

I am going to choose not to work out this list, as even working out the cost of parts I haven't got round to fitting yet is scary. But I do know I've saved (if that's the correct term to use) a lot of cost by fitting everything myself and carrying out pretty much all servicing and repairs myself too.

Patrick - the Coupe was built by Pininfarina, hence the better build quality
Don't be scared about buying a Coupe, just be careful. As with any car, there are some real dogs out there. The fact that the Coupe is a low-volume, high performance car means that some maintenance and repair items are more expensive than an everyday car, but generally, a well-maintained Coupe will last for 150,000 miles without any drama.
Buy off a long standing forum member and you can't go far wrong oh i thought Pininfarina just designed/styled it? they actually put it together? how much do u think i need 2 spend to get a mint 16vt, what would £2500 get me? a dog? lol

Patrick - you need to spend some time reading the guides in the buying and selling section but to answer your questions Chris Bangle designed the body when he worked for Fiat Centro Style. Pininfarina designed the interior and assembled the whole car at their own factory. £2500 will get a pretty good 16vt - it will even get an entry level 20VT (which most would recommend as a better everyday car) Increase your budget to £3500 and you'll get a good 20VT with history and probably a previous forum owner (which is worth hundreds)
