Anyone going?

I have tickets booked for camping at Beausejour and a car park for Blanc.

Crossing late afternoon on the Wednesday before with speed ferries, not booked a return yet as I may head down to Brittany for a few days.

Karting Nord again this year. Not taking the coupe this year though. Hopefully mates GT3 if he isnt banned for speeding

Think there are 9 of us so far this year.

Leaving on the Wednesday and returning Monday. Look out for the "Camembert Run" cars and shirts!

Can't wait

Im looking at going to Le mans for the first time this year with a few mates and haven't really got a clue as to how the tickets work!?

Is all we need a 'General enclosure' ticket? Not after grandstand seating or anything-i presume this is what all the other names are?

Is £55 about the going rate per ticket? A lay-bys ticket is for camping, correct?

How easy is it to get food/beer etc, as our combined best is my 'C' in GCSE German, which i doubt will help!

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Ben.

All you need is a camping permit. You need one per car and this can include as many people / tents as you like. These MUST be booked in advance as there is no chance of getting them at the race.

Face value ranges from about 40 - 80 euros depending on the site for camping (Lay-bys) but as far as I am aware they are now sold out with the exception of some of the obscure sites.

The only way to get them will be through tour operators (usually as part of a ferry package) at whatever the going rate becomes. Maison Blanc camping was going for upto £300 per ticket last year !!!

Good campsites to aim for are Maison Blanc , Houx, Houx Annex - I'm sure others will disagree with my choice (and these will also be the first to sell out).

Entry tickets 'General enclosure' can easily be bought on the gate as they never sell out though it will be easier to buy them at the same time as you get the camping tickets as they sell at face value.

Grandstands are a waste of time as in 24hrs you'll move about too much.

Pit Walk tickets are equally a waste of money as the pits are open to the public all day on Friday.

Food is easy to buy but its the usual, over priced burgers, panninis and baguettes. As is cold beer.

The best bet is to stop at the Carreffoure (sp) supermarket on the way / in Le Mans and stock up on beers and bbq stuff - its dirt cheap.

These are the official prices and a map

Tour Prices

More Tour Prices

If they fail have a look on google for other operators and when you get desperate take out a loan and have a look at eBay!!

So all you need is a camping ticket (in advance) and entrance ticktets which will get you virtually everywhere worth going.

You'll love it !!

John.

There may be some tickets left for Beausejour - they were available at least up to the friday of the event last year. It is a bit further away from the village, but when there is action on the track there is a free bus service.

Tickets aren't issued until near the event, so have a look on ebay in May/early June if you can't get any now.

I always buy the tickets for the race when I get there, and as there will be four or five of us the discount I get from being an ACO member almost pays for the membership!

Best food is the Tarti-flette and the Gran Marnier crepes - help yourself to the alcohol!! We tend to walk between the two stalls all weekend.

Cheap everything is available as mentioned in Carrefour or the other supermarkets.

Le Mans.org still have Beausejour. or try clubarnage.com and the forum, in there is a section called buy/swap/sell. the guys in there sell their tickets at face value covering costs, best to not encourage Ebay sellers as they rob all the camping spaces in the first place. Im holding out for Houx or Houx Annex, fingers crossed. Maison Blanche was cool last year but there are no pitches so people tend to mark of big area meaning if you arrive later than thurs and have a camping ticket you may not actually find any space!

Yeah was in camping in Karting Nord. Short story is, my friends have over budgeted this month on rent and paying for a biking holiday so realised they wont have the spending money for le mans, so have sold there places. Hoepfully the person that organised the whole thing, will be selling my place (ticket entry, camping, ferry etc..)

My tickets arrived last week so all set now. Keep the noise down for the stag do tom! Mind you, if you are only arriving on Friday morning you will be a bit further down Beausejour than us as we should arrive Wednesday evening.

There was one in 2002, but not for the last couple of years - unless it is well hidden!

Getting excited now - just got the car back from a cambelt change (46k since the last one so didn't want to risk it for the 1400 mile round trip I am doing), brakes to change over the weekend and then it is off. See you there!

Last year was far too hot for me

Weather looks good this year, as do the Diesel Audi's

Oh and don't forget to be at Arnage for the annual piston heads gathering.... Would be nice to see some pictures of Coupe's mixing with all those exotic machines

Unfortunately not The guy buying our tickets this year forgot to confirm his order and we lost our allocation of 8 camping passes in Houx and 20+ tickets

What makes it worse is my mate is working for the LOLA team this year and offered me a garage trip

Are you going with the Porsche club?

No, no Porsche club. In Karting Nord again, friend works for Sebah so will be visiting that garage. If you can get any pit passes they would be warmly recieved

Was a great time there.

Massive thunderstorm on the Wednesday night which shook the ground, followed by chasing a pikey out of the tent in the early hours of Thursday Morning

Blazing hot the rest of the time, good racing, good bbq, quality video of one of the Astons trashing it on the Porsche Curves after 20 minutes

Oh and the Tropicana Girls - now how can I justify those pics to the gf?

Nice drive with the new motorway. Only saw a green coupe (plus alloys) in an enclosure. There was an Murc and GT3 in same enclosure.

Didnt see your General LDV van, but saw an A-Team van

So many highlights
The brown Allegro, the Matt black Rolls Royce, the 2 guys dreesed up as British Police in a Silver Cobra, who I heard were actually directing traffic at one point

and although I was warned, I really was stunned with the way the French pikeys take absolutely anything thats left behind.....

Took our cheap BBQ as we were loading the cars on the Monday Morning. Shame we forgot to put it together properly and had half the screws / nuts left So that will last all summer.....NOT

Great weekend except for some kind English person who reversed into me as we were leaving the carpark on Friday morning - I was really pi**ed off at the time - small dent in the front of the bonnet. Hopefully the insurance claim should cover for getting rid off all the stone chips though, so maybe a good thing!

Rest of the weekend was brilliant as usual, hopefully the Astons will win next year... Think we said that last year too.

There was a blue 20VT in the same campsite as me (Beausejour), saw a couple of others, and all the usual interesting cars.

It was my first time to Le Mans this year. It was absolutely brilliant. Had only had my 20v turbo (ink black) for about a month before the trip down. I felt the coupe was a nice car to take because it was quick when keeping up with convoys on the trip down and back. It is also quite rare so it wasn't too feeble in comparison to the exotica present. Quite a special car especially when every frenchman seems to have a sh@tbox diesel 106 or similar.

Highlight for me was the noise of the Corvettes (sound like a spitfire) and the drive home after the race accompanied by all sorts of exotica - TVR's, Porkers, Lambo Diablo, Countach, classic Alfa's etc.

Also had to laugh at the M3 CSL that flew past us on the way back when we were cruising at 100, only to be pulled by the Gendarmes two mins later. Hope he did not get a ban as i have heard a few people that had.

Gonna go for longer next year though and will hide ALL things away as the local pikeys robbed our folding chairs on Sat evening.

That was me

Got to take her out on the track at the end - up and under the Dunlop and down to where they had closed off the Mulsanne, back the wrong way across the finish line at a ton and up to Porsche before I turned round and got slung off! Quality!!!

Trust everyone had a great weekend?

Also had to laugh at the M3 CSL that flew past us on the way back when we were cruising at 100, only to be pulled by the Gendarmes two mins later. Hope he did not get a ban as i have heard a few people that had.

This was my mate Mark, driving his friends CSL. He did get stopped for exactly 100mph (or the KMH equivalent), and got an 80 Euro fine IIRC, he was lucky (he had been doing 160mph a few miles before!)!

More funny/unfortunate is what happened to the CSL. At Mulsanne the driver did the obligatory slow down and blast by the crowd, this went fine, until further up when he wanted to do a turn and come back around to pick up my friend Mark (who was filming). He swung wide, ready to do a 180, planted the throttle and it wasn't going to swing round, so he went to dab the brake but his flip flop got stuck and jammed the accelerator down.
Wham, straight into the barrier! New bumper, arch liner, wing, light and various other small parts are now needed! It got back to the Uk on a back of a truck, Oops, how embarrasing.
It must have looked to everyone else that he hated his car and just rammed it into the barrier! Not sure that Flip Flops are the finest driving footwear

Dave, he was probably doing about 160 when he went past us. That guy was on a mission. Forgot to mention that we chased a 911 and Sagaris through Le Mans town centre on the way back. Great fun!

Forgot to mention.

On the Tuesday before I received a call from a mate who works for the Sebah team (they were #89) and offered me the position of Pit board man for the race. Needless to say even though it was a great offer, I didnt fancy sitting there in overalls for 24 hours non stop in the blazing sun
Maybe if there werent a group of us going but how could I miss the beers and other stuff?

To be honest, I think that would be superb fun for the first two hours of the race, and then it would become such a chore! You'd see people walking everywhere with their plastic biere pression grands (s'il vous plait) and would die of longing for a cold beer... Torture
