Just had my clutch replaced at a Mr Clutch Autocentre at a cost of £315 which i think is very good. Got it done in Highgate (N.London) cos my old man lives near it. Anyway im very impressed with them, done a good job at a decent price, best thing is he knew the car because he said he used to work in a garage next to powerfiat

Go to powerfiat and get it done there if you are in London. No excuse not to get a proper job done rather than save a couple of quid.

Don't want to be a killjoy, but Mr Clutch are always in court being sued. Their re-manufactured clutches are rubbish, and in the trade, they have a poor name. They open and close branches on a regular bases due to the Courts decisions.
No doubt there is plenty of reports about Mr Clutch on the net, and i am sure there has been a thread on here about them.
This is why so many members use a specialist!!

Andy. smile

i can only back up sump plug on this one .

i had a mk1 punto sporting 1.6 (not the sissy 1.2 laugh ) they fixed the clutch yes but it only lasted 1500 miles.
all so i asked for a new clutch not a refurb and they sad that they fitted a luK clutch but when i re fitted a new clutch my self i found that they fitted one of there clutches and charged me for a LuK clutch.
when i went to confront them about this the foreman at the branch i went to told me to

" fccuk off , if you can fix it your self why did you bring it to us in the first place "

needles to say i went to the small claims courts and got my money back an compensation

Hmm,

Well sounds like you had a good experience but call me a kill joy too (or perhaps its the shares in PowerFiat laugh )

But I would take it to Powerfiat if your in the London area or MotorMech if up north.

A little extra it maybe but a damn perfect job everytime is pretty much guaranteed

I had a Mr Clutch clutch fitted to my Fiesta 1.6 Si. I had to take it back twice for them to put different clutches on as the first 2 kept slipping. I wouldn't use them again, especially not on a Coupe.

A friend of mine recently went to mr clutch in highgate (he lives just by the Esso station), he has a Peugeot 207 and knows nothing about cars, it had done 6k miles and they claimed he needed new front discs and pads all round for £260.

He brought his car over and he had virtually no wear on the discs and the pads had plenty life in them.

Thieves if you ask me.

So 315 quid for Mr. Clutch or around 400 ish for Powerfiat.....hmmm......let have a think about that one! I'd still go to Rog if it was 500... (shhhh - dont tell him...)

You can't generalise that Mr Clutch is rubbish, it depends who's doing the job at the end of the day (though I would'nt recommend going there ;)).

You're absolutley right - I will therefore use Mr. Clutch from now on in the hope that I get a nice chap that also knows coupes as well as Rog. There must be one......somewhere....maybe......or I could just pootle round the M25 to Powerfiat. wink

The previous owner of my car took it to Mr Clutch which messed up, eventually paid up in small claims court, seems to happen all to frequently to Mr Clutch customers

I guess I should tell you guys my experience with MrClutch. It wasn't a good one, surfice to say.

Years ago, when I had my Uno Turbo, I had a new clutch fitted by MrClutch in Ilford, (the branch isn't there anymore). Can't remember what I paid, but it seemed reasonable at the time.

Two days later, I'm driving back from friends on the A127 (Southend Road), the traffic was heavy, so we were crawling at 35 mph, suddendly the steering went crazy, pulling hard to the right, with a grinding noise from underneath. I was near a slip road, so managed to get out of the car, and get the car off the main carriage way. Looked underneath, and the passenger side driveshaft is hanging off from the gearbox end.

After getting the car on a trailer and back home, I got the car up off the ground to find the bolts connecting the inner CV joint and drive shaft are loose, and because of this, they had come undone and some had snapped off, causing the catastrophic failure.

To be honest, I was young and just glad that I could fix the problem, so I didn't bother going back to MrClutch to make a complaint.

The new clutch, they fitted, lasted approximately 28k miles!

I then bought a decent clutch from Avanti, and fitted it myself, which was still going when I sold the Uno T a few years later.

smile

I do belive Goose had a bargain Mr Clutch clutch in his old red one. Swore by it (at the time) and it seemed to handle his 300 brake.

I was considering going there to sort my scrapper Xanty's clutch which seems to be slippier in this cold weather, but maybe I'll see if a local garage can sort it cheaper! shocked

They must have a fitter who knows his stuff somewhere, if there that bad why have they been in buisness for years?

Because people go for cheap deals on cars that are easy to work on - take a coupe to most garages and they'll have never worked on one before. I'm sure some of them know their stuff - go for it, but dont post on here crying when it goes wrong.
