Not specifically insuring a coupe but a general question.
Last year I was driving the misses car on her fully comp policy, I was fully comp on the coupe, 3rd party any vehicle.
I was sat at a set of traffic lights, when some tw@t ran into the back of us. His insurance admitted liability straight away and the claim is sorted. However, the fact remains I was driving her vehicle at the time of the accident.
Its renewal time and its seems as though both our insurance companies have put up our premiums even though it wasn't our fault. I understand this is standard, but as I was driving her car, her policy has gone up due to the accident, and mine has as I was the driver. This seems unfair to me as we are paying twice for the same accident, which we were not at fault.
Should we both put the same accident on each of our insurance quotes?

Unless her insurance company were involved, or you're now trying to go on her policy as a named driver her insurance shouldn't change. She hasn't made a claim and she hasn't had an accident.
Dear monos, a secret truth.

Unless her insurance company were involved, Unfortuately they were, as the accident was difficult to prove liabity at the time as a fire engine was the cause, although not involved. Hence, we told her insurance as I was fully comp named driver on the policy as it wasn't clear to the insurance company who was to blame even though I was stationary, even though I was following the highway code, even though the other guy admitted he didn't see the fire engine, or the fact I was stopped on the road to let the fire engine cross, and even though I had a witness and CCTV.

OK, I've got it now.
Both policies have gone up because you're on both of them and you've got an accident on record.

Seems unfair that either policy goes up as a result of a non-fault accident. I'm interested to hear what happens here as I'm in a similar situation after being rammed by someone on a dual carriageway while driving my fiances car as a named driver on her policy. The claim hasn't been completed yet, in our case. Who is your insurance company?

Unless her insurance company were involved, the accident was difficult to prove liabity at the time as a fire engine was the cause, although not involved. I've seen/caused a few accidents like this behind the wheel of an Ambulance. Liability should't be dificult to prove at all - it's the other guys fault. Incidentally the Water Fairies should really have stopped. Firstly to check that everyone is ok and secondly because it is a requirement of the law - they then make reliable witnesses too. Don't see why this accident should affect either of your renewal premiums as all costs should have been reclaimed from the 3rd party. Is it a big jump in cost or just the little bit they try to squeeze out of us each year.

I went on moneysupermarket recently and put in I and my wifes details without accident, then with accident details. I had a cosmetic rear end last month, other diver admitted full liability and my wife had a small accident mid 2006 and other party admitted liability - so basically they were both no fault. Difference approx £60. The insurance companies ask "have you made any insurance claims in the last 5 years" not "have any claims been made against your insurance". They have you either way
