I'm sure benmuir had the same problem a while back with his new release bearing. Think it was all bent out of shape somehow.

Not really! I was planning on going for a nice drive to the Lake District on the Sunday, but instead had to go to a family BBQ, where i've managed to sunburn my back and shoulders! Schoolboy error!

It's not faulty, I'd put your salary on that! \:D

He's made the mistake of not knowing how and when to engage the release bearing.......bet ya! \:D

Hope he doesn't do it with the next one \:\(

Was the 'cirque de soleil' music playing in the back ground when you rung them? ;\)

Well i just rang up Mr. Clutch, and said; "I don't mean to patronise you, but........." and then proceeded to quote from the how-to guide! \:D Anyway, he was always one sentence ahead of me, so I can only assume he knows what he's doing! \:D

Looks like i'll just have to wait for take two tommorrow.......

Oh, and he said it looks like the/a seal on my clutch slave cylinder is showing signs of deterioration. Nothing immediate, but something to note! Is that a nice little job for me, or best done by someone with an ounce of knowledge?!

Bet he's just been reading the forum........ \:D

Good luck with it Nick, I'm sure he'll do a cracking job. In fact I seem to recall that the Durham Mr Clutch gets rave reviews. You're going to tell me now that it's booked in somewhere else, aren't you? \:D

Well I got my coupe back this afternoon and.......... WOW! \:o \:\/ \:D I had totally forgotten how great it feels to drive a coop without a slipping clutch! Although I went for a little test drive this evening, and had to force myself to use full throttle and build up the revs! I'm that used to nursing up to 3k RPM then changing gear!

So anyone that has a slightly dodgy clutch, go get it fixed straight away!! \:\)

Anyway, onto Mr Clutch (Durham branch)...... It would seem that they either did infact take delivery of a faulty release bearing first time round, or learnt from their mistakes! If that is the case, then it's good news for any other coop owners wishing to use them!

In total it cost me £325 for new Valeo clutch, grinding of flywheel, and changing of the gearbox oil (This included a £25 discount i printed from their website!!)

The clutch is guaranteed for 2 years / 20000miles. I have to drop in the garage in 500 and 2000 miles for them to check that everything is bedding in correctly etc.

So overall i am really happy with the service, however..... when washing the coop tonight i did notice a new, albeit very small, dent on the bonnet. It would appear that they left something in the engine bay while trying to close the bonnet, resulting in a small outward pin-prick dent on the side (did that make sense ). I will let you know how my phone call goes with them tomorrow.....

I'm glad you got it back okay.

When I fitted my clutch I made a mistake with the release bearing. I thought it was a pusher clutch so positioned the release fork behind the release bearing when putting the gearbox on the engine. The order was clutch, release bearing then release fork. When I pushed the gearbox onto the engine the release bearing clamped onto the clutch but of course the release fork didn't do anything!

I then spent 1 hour swearing. I discovered that the clutch is actually a puller (on the 20VT) and the release fork should have been between the clutch and the release bearing. I then spent the next 2 hours trying to get the gearbox onto the engine whilst trying to line up the fork with the release bearing using a tiny extending mirror and a torch. This isn't much fun as the gearbox isn't the lightest of things to keep lifting on/off the engine.

John

When I had my clutch done and it was all good, people on here started telling me how Mr Clutch will void the warranty if you don't get it checked out before the mileage is up. Once again, total shite. I took mine in for its 12,000 mile check at well over 13,500 and they didn't give a rats. Of course if it had been showing signs of slipping by then...

F****** b****** thing...
