Was thinking about trying to organise a meet in Central London. We could do an early morning blast around the roads in the centre of the city followed by some breakfast in a real, traditional London cafe.

There are a number of possible sights to drive/cruise past.

A clear drive round all those sounds good right? Obviously, that's the catch - this needs to be done nice and early.

If the coops were to meet at a convenient location we could drive round the locations above pretty much undisturbed. We'd then pick up some breakfast and be home in time for the other half to smoke you a kipper. Alternatively you could bring the other half with you the night before, stay in London and make a morning/day of it - go on the London Eye for example or go for a walk in one of the fantastic parks.

If booked substantially in advance a travellodge room could be picked up pretty cheaply. I'd be willing to put one or two long term club members up at my place.

If anyone is interested please let me know. Also, if anyone has a suggested location in Zone 1 that they'd like to drive by please post and I'll add it into the route if that's thought desirable.

Steve

Would love to do this - am thinking of some VW-style night drives this summer - but I'll be on honeymoon at that time!

Let me know if the date changes ;\)

Good to hear there is some interest. I had been a bit worried that the early start would put some people off, but I genuinely think there will be something special about getting out there early in the morning and not just from a volume of traffic point of view.

I'll start putting some thought into the route over the next week or so, but if anyone has any requests on locations please shout.

Cheers

There are a couple of underpasses in the city, but the closest meaningful tunnel I can think of which would naturally lead into the rest of the drive would be the Blackwall Tunnel. I often go through there with the window a quarter down \:\/

Maybe somewhere in that area would be a good starting point although it's not ideal for people coming from the north or west. I was planning to suggest meeting somewhere central to make it fair on everyone, but perhaps Blackwall would be a suitable starting point. If this is not thought desireable then we could just go for the central meet/underpass blast option.

I think I've read somewhere that for various reasons it's not a good idea to post the route of anything like this too publicly, but with your chosen landmarks you could very easily fit in some very good, decent length, echo-ey tunnels with the tiniest of detours ;\)

PM me if the penny doesn't drop.

Cappo, that's probably true. I'd been thinking something similar as to the final route, but perhaps its also sensible to take a less overt approach to the planning. I've got a decent list of interested parties and, in due time, will form a PM group.

You're looking at a 3am start. ;\)

I did this a while back. Stopped off by brick lane for a salt beef and mustard bagel at 4am.
