I just went out at lunchtime in the car with a couple of workmates, and we got stuck behind a tractor doing 15mph in a national speed limit road. At the first available safe opportunity for passing I booted it from second, only up to 60mph, but it terrified all 3 passengers to such an extent that they all giggled like little girls for the whole 10 minutes afterwards.

Now to me, the Coupe doesn't feel all that quick any more. Is it just because I'm used to it, or is it because I was the driver and not a passenger?

Yup - I'm very used to the performance of my Coupe now - feels quick, but ordinary at the same time

However, I took a colleague out in it a couple of months ago and set it to base boost so I dodn't scare her too much

On one occasion, I had to put my foot down a bit (slip road onto DC - decent gap appeared so I floored it)

She went silent and a little bit pale - didn't have the heart to tell her it was on its lowest setting

i think after time you just get used to the power. I still make people squeak abit in my car even though they have been in it a few times. Let someone drive you in your car and you will notice the difference from being a driver to a passenger.

I don't think mine feels particularly fast, so much so I've been thinking about GTECing it even though I told myself I never would.

Too true, Dan_S

I've always said that 0-60 in 6 secs is quick enough for anyone. It is amazing how blase(can't figure out how to put an accent thingy above the "e") we all get about the performance which, even by modern car standards, is impressive.

I'm picking up a fella (no not like that) on Thursday morning for run from Belfast to Derry. (Migrating a load of folk onto a new mail server)

Anyway its a good 150 mile round trip and I imagine the temptation to show off a little of the coops performance will prove to much for me.

When i first got mine i couldnt believe the power i was scared sh1tless when the guy took me for a spin. At times im sure it feels faster than other times.
Perhaps it depends on how much of an open road is in front to judge it.
Funny enough i just give her a quick little push couple of days ago and my Mother and Aunt...lol Went .........Wow

What you guys need to do is buy a 90bhp diesel hatchback and use it for commuting to work 5 days a week.

Everytime i get back into the Fiat at weekends and the occasional work day it feels like a supercar laugh

I Took my Dad out for a "spirited" drive once.

He didn't flinch or say anything at the time.

I then asked him if he enjoyed the acceleration and he said "It's not any faster than me rover lad" shocked

He has an old 416 !!

I honestly think that is what he believed at the time !!

I drive a 93BHP escort diesel as my daily driver. It's the opposite of the coupe - Great handling and pants performance. laugh

I have been thinking the past few days that i want a bigger turbo and more power smile just used to mine now, but saying that i have scared myself a few time as i forgot how nippy it can be laugh

you get used to any power. i know a guy with a 690bhp gtr and he is bored stupid and just went to 920bhp and lets face it 690bhp and 0-60 in 4 seconds and 1/4 1n 11.6 is quick enough for anyone but he was bored. the coop feels quick to me for some strange reason as i have had much more powerful cars but i will be used to it very soon.

i think its a point where you either say enough is enough or you carry on to silly levels.

my uncle is at stupid stage as he just sold his new m5 because it was boring and slow! has a played with 4200gt grandsport now!
i wouldn't get bored with the new m5 for a while.

M5's sound fantastic!
I personally think the 16vt feels quicker when both are around 250+ bhp. But yeah agreed you get used to the speeds.
I must say Coops feel quite Sluggish with 3 people in them.

The first time I drove mine on a test drive before buying, I couldn't believe the acceleration in 2nd and 3rd. I floored it and just wasn't expecting the push back in the seat it provided laugh

I was ony used to a 1.8 Bravo but had driven the S2000, Audi TT and Golf VR6 on occassions. The S2000 was great, but the thrill of the turbo on thr 20VT beats them all.

Now 2 and a bit years later, I'm used to the coop. But it still suprises me occassionally! love I don't notice the push back in the seat as much but its definately still fast. Overtaking is just effortless at most speeds.

Its standard by the way (apart from B6's, Pagid pads and DBA discs) and I've no intention of modifying engine performance. I'd love more power but for me, it's perfect the way it is yipee

My story is similar to most other peoples here. I had a problem with my PRV which meant I was only boosting at 0.7 bar. I didn't get round to fixing it for around a month

(I think there was a voice in my head somewhere saying 'you know how much money you save on petrol driving it like this jon....don't fix the prv.....if you don't you might be able to afford to fix the coop when it goes wrong next time.....and one day you might actaully be able to afford a house! laugh )

Fixed it the other day and went out for a drive boosting properly at 1.2bar. It felt silly in 1st and 2nd. Forgotten what a big smile it could provoke love

sod the house

thinking about it there were a couple of really cold nights this winter - empty roads - lovely dense air. That felt fast smile

I reckon like has been said - you can get used to anything - Jenson Button said his car felt slow all last season. jesus.

well my new (to me) plus is running like a dog so feels awfully slow - but a couple of sessions at motormech will sort that out....

my green 20vt i just got rid of felt stupidly quick when i first got it, frighteningly so. it was pretty much standard but for a gtec chip - once i had the suspension renewed it felt so quick and planted it was awesome.

now, i have to get this plus back to a good condition, so i expect to have some speed to look forward to in the near future, i hope.....

sorry lol there was also a m5 mentioning masserati to lol.

i think that power is very addictive so sometimes its good to find a car that you love for many other reasons then how fast it is and know it is fast but also have a tuning cap.
say a coop looks good and drives well but is kinda capped to 400bhp on worth while tuning so you can't take it to stupid.
buy a hot rod and you will end up with 1200bhp and a massive bill or deibt lol.

Hmmm.... should be interesting when i get to drive mine. No more than 75bhp for the past 4 years, then into a 500bhp coupe, should make some interesting driving / scaring laugh
