Me too, I think you'll find the 16VT will become the centrefold for all cap and drivers gloves wearing bearded classic enthusiasts first!

Hi Jon, and welcome to the most knowledgable forum in the world.
The car you are buying is my old one, which I sold to the guy you're buying from, as a repair project in October last year, because I lost my job and couldnt afford to fix it.
Take a look at my old posts for details of what was wrong with it. Dont be put off by them though, I sorted many of the issues mentioned in my posts. IF he's fixed it properly, then you've got a bargain. There were a few other problems with the car unrelated to the main reason I sold up, I'm more than happy to share these with you, either through this thread or PM, let me know!
I also gave him a spare turbo (used but working), so see if he's still got that too.
Like I said, if its been fixed it'll be a great car, but make sure its been done well. The cam belt was done on 69000 a good few years ago, so unless he's done it whilst in his ownership then it needs doing ASAP.
One last thing, the mileage he quotes is the same as when I sold to him so he's not driven it since.
Good luck
Mark

Mark,
thanks for that valuable information.
I believe the car has been fixed. It has an MOT until November, so that aspect has been sorted. Tells me he works or used to work for Fiat, so assuming he will have done some work to resolve the problems? I'll read your posts and ask the questions.

I feel the same way...I've just sold my Ltd Edition Impreza, and believe me, it hurts. It was a classic (only 200 made). He says he's still got the spare turbo, which I presume is in good nick? If so, that'll be the first thing I'll replace along with seals if you say it was blowing blueish smoke. Did it drive ok apart from that? I may also be a permenant result of the cambelt failure, but not sure

Both turbo's were fine, the first load of smoke wasn't a turbo related problem, that was caused by a split pipe after the map sensor. I'd just leave the turbo as is until it lets go.
It drove fine too, pulled well and felt very together.

After Mark's introduction and advice, I contacted the seller to confirm a few things... ...the story unfolds as follows... 1 - He (Paul) says the turbo wasn't fitted properly, and a coolant pipe was blocked, therefore not enought coolant which stopped the turbo from spooling properly, thus causing the smoking. 2 - The leak by the injector was due to the fuel rail not being fitted properly, so now it has been resolved. 3 - Apparently wiring loom was a bit of a mess, so that has all been replaced and fitted correctly. 4 - Coolant pipes (all) have been replaced with silicone hoses. 5 - A Walbro fuel pump has been fitted. All in all, it sounds like he's sorted everything out I started to get worried about. The other issues are extremely minor I think. The only thing he's not sorted is the heater (only works on speed 4). All answers weren't prompted, so I think he's genuine. Like I said, he works for Fiat, so should be a sound car.

Welcome. You have bought the best model in the best colour. Well done! Now lower it and put a set of black alloys on it and go and scare small children! I'd check your exhaust Goonv8. Looks like the cat's hanging off the back
