Hay guys I went to view a 20vt it has a hybrid turbo and evo fmic drove v nice but when hot on tick over the oil pressure dropped to 2 then 1.5. It was at 3 bar when over 2000 revs though. Will it have hotter oil when on tickover because the intercooler hampers the rad or is this a big issue ? The owner said its never worried him and seemed a good honest guy. Thanks guys

depends what the oil is as to weather is a worry. 10w40 semi was on my car at about 1.5 now with fully synth 10w50 I have about 2.4 at ~90°c Also fuel in the oil will have an impact if its not often run out for a good blast maybe lose 0.1 bar. The Oil cooler is to the side of the car so should not be affected. the fans should just run more.

On tickover youre not moving anyway so the intercooler doesnt really make a difference. Ask what type of oil is in it, if it's 5w or 10w40 then putting 10 or 15w50 in might get you a load more pressure, it did for me If it never goes below 1.5 bar even when sat in traffic for ages then that wouldnt put me off. It might run like that for years or you could buy one with 2.5 bar hot oil pressure and then the bottom end suddenly dies overnight.

The FMIC will restrict air flow to the rad, and temps will be higher in traffic - the higher the temps, the thinner the oil.
If the rad is a bit old then this will be worse.
1.5 bar is a bit low - but OK, could be caused by the oil type, or not enough oil in the car.
What did the water temps get to in traffic, and were the fans working?

It was 10-40 the water temp was a quater up the gauge and the fan kicked in just passed 90. We didn't go on a long run and was in a built up area.
Yes fans were working at 90 and water temp was a quater up the dial so not too hot we didn't go too far on the test drive and was in a built up area so no speed was achieved.

water temps will be higher when in traffic than driving at speed.
What 10/40 oil - it does make a difference...

behind a tractor, climbing a steep gradient for 5 mins at 10 mph with rad fans full on 90+ degrees.... over the hill i dipped my cluch and the oil pressure dropped to 1.5 on new 10/40 oil..... considdering the cars only done 14,000 miles i d assume this to be normal ... hope it helps
i should add 2 mins later and a little speed/airflow, it was back to 2.5 at tickover

Not the best stuff to use - would be better on Millers 10/60, Motul 300V, or Silkolene pro. (all fully synth.)

A lot of people worry about their oil pressure including me as it 'has an oil pressure gauge' most cars dont so its just something else to worry about Keep an eye on it but try not to let it worry you too much, if it does get it checked out..
I'll be back Alor Blue Seat Leon FR 180 atm

well I bought the car its fine after 2k it goes to 3bar. It sits at 1.5 bar when hot and drops a touch below when v hot hasn't hit the 1 bar anyway. It drives fine, pulls v strong and sounds perfect so hopefully it will be ok for a while. Im gonna get it serviced soon with good oil.

It might run like that for years or you could buy one with 2.5 bar hot oil pressure and then the bottom end suddenly dies overnight. Find out what oil is in it, i had 5w/30 in mine which sat at 1.5bar when hot and now im having to replace my engine.
