installation time canbeb done in 1 hour very easy.

lol, I'm glad i'm not the only one who has been doing that, I drove out of a services tonight and was convinced they were switched off Depending on how you want to do it, A screw driver, And if you want to take the lights off and do them in the office. I think its a 10 or 8mm socket set for the front....and I cant rember the rear Be careful however as my 16vt lugs sheered off and needed to be replaced when taking off the lights. On the older cars there in a prime location for collecting water

Ordered and the post gets even better. Pictures in this thread chaps when fitted? Even though I have bought some I was a little concerned over the 30 day warranty! Seems a little short .... is this normal with HIDS? Though, nothing ventured nothing gained

mine arrived today, I was in a lazy mood so attempted to fit them with the lights still on the car....dont do that! I have a bad neck now Some points, The bracket that holds the HID's in place would be fine if it was mounted against something flat, as there hung upside down they don't cut the musted and allow far to much vertical moment. (as default there only held on the longer side of the bracket) As such they had to come off again, I drilled a hole in the long flat peace of metal towards the top end (where the little hock is) and then used self tapers to secure. second point, As I found out 20 minuets of head scratching later on the connection in to the ballast can be done the wrong way around very easily as the plug fits on both ways...would have been nice for this to be a one way fitting plug to stop idiots like me making mistakes what else, the cable is quite short so you have to be careful where you mount the ballast if your getting a set of HID's these may interest you http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180426308437&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT I got them next day, and they do what they say on the tin photos

They look good Sam - Any fitting tips? Yep, my wife tells me mine have arrived today So long as I can keep in her good books when I get home (most evenings upon arriving home after a hard days work - I'm in trouble for something I haven't done!) they should be done this evening

Disconnect the two plugs on each light detach wires from clip on back of light take lights off, 10mm socket, you will have two bolts on the back towards the top of the engine bay and two nuts on the front, be weary of these as they do like to shear (if they even look like there going to start peeing about, use some penetrating oil and lots of back and forwards movments (oh err!)
inside with the lights rember the dip beam is the outer side of the light, not the inside!
Mount ballast, I did this on the lower part of the light and just go outside to check it wont foul on anything, the drivers side is not so much of a problem as there is no intercooler pipe work to worry about
urrr....
the only other pain in the ass is getting the retaining clips back on, you have to take these off and put them back on around the hid bulb. Because there larger there a royal pain in the ass, its at this point you will be looking for the nedal noise pliers
thats it really, go refit, check alignment and watch out for catching the rubber seals on the outside of the lights

going to give them the benefit of the doubt till I pull the lights apart and check just how much craps covering the lenses

the light is very patchy and not very clear. where I had a definitive cut off before, its hard to tell now. I just spent a hour getting the aliment in to something sensible.
If I didnt have work to do I would be pulling the lights out and pulling them apart now to find out whats going on

Well now! Just fitted mine, only took me 2 1/2 hours! Very nice, definitely brighter than the original. Very, very white. Beam level and cut off is now actually more distinct then before - marked garage door before and after.
Previously the dome LED side lights were 10X whiter than the original headlights, now, the HIDs are brighter than these - I have actually given up trying to get front lights that match in brightness.
No problems for me fitting - thanks to the tips in this thread and, adjuster works too! Bonus!
I think I'll get them tested for levels at a local MOT shop anyway sometime this week.

Nothing easy with these cars is there! My set of hids have been delivered to the old couple a few doors down...they go to sleep around 8:00pm Drove from Bracknell to Carnforth and back (500ish miles) today and really could have done with these lights being fitted. Will look at my lens tomorrow evening to see if the dust is as bad as yours was sam, hopefully it should be clean as LE's just don't do dirty

Pretty easy to do it yourself Mawv. Connecting everything up is probably not even 5 minutes of work, its more about routing all the cables and hiding/fitting the ballast to the coupe's bonnect somewhere.

Good to see that the HIDS have come down in price, I did a group buy in 2004/5 but we had to get them from Canada! now very easy to get and at a fraction of the price.
Has anyone had any issued with the HIDs interfering with the electric levelers? there was afew that seemed to blow the motors, I think mine are still going strong - am sure you guys already know this but bluer the light - less visual power ie 4500k provide better performance than 8000k - how ever some like to go to the higher for more blue light etc.

I was very worried about the stories of HID's blowing their leveler's but luckily mine haven't either. However, even on their 'low' setting I still get people flashing me occasionally. They must get quite a shock when i flash back with my normal full beam bulbs.

Have a look at the instructions and tell me if they make any sense These days the kits are foolproof to install, back in the days of Hanny's group buy (I got mine from brinks, remember him?) we all ran extra cabling and relays, these latest kits are just plug n play, just need to cut a hole out of the rubber cover at the back of the lights. Blimey - thats good to have plug and Plays - but do you not need to get additional earth? I think this was one of the 'prime suspects' to leveler motors blowing. Oh yes I remember Brinks - nice chap - wonder what hes up to now?

As you may/may not have seen from my other thread in general maintenance, i have just fitted a set of HIDs.
Just to say my levellers have just blown after about 2 weeks - don't know if mounting location of ballast's has anything to do with it but I squeezed mine in the gap directly beneath the leveller motor on the headlight body. In hindsight, I would recommend to anyone to disconnect unless they are not really bothered either way.
On a plus side they are dead easy to fit, just watch where you mount the ballasts to make sure they don't prevent the bonnet from closing. And routing the cables so they look tidy can be a bit of pain.

Here we have, for your viewing pleasure.... Car to left - 35W 6000K HIDs & Tower LED (White) sidelights Car to right - Standard Halogens & Tower LED (Blue) sidelights My work colleague bought some of the tower LED's but, received blue instead of white. We are not too sure about the legality of having the 'blue' sidelights, so for now, they stay. They are actually 'bluer' and brighter than the picture shows!!

I am, and they aren't. Simples. I foresee another set of blue lights in your near future........ I find this extremely aggravating I have to say. I had a Golf MKV behind me last night on a country road with these bright blue sidelights. Was driving me mad in the rear view mirror. Annoying little oik kept slowing and speeding up goading me to 'let em have it' So I did. I pulled over at the first opportunity to let her past. Off the vehicle sped into the night... I wonder at what point she will realise that she was in a very discreet average speed area.... Maybe when the NIP arrives for her

Yep, no problems with mine either. Good spend as far as I'm concerned. Earlier up the post, someone asked what the warm up time was. 5 seconds is the answer.

I just fitted these HID's yesterday to my main beam lights to complete my eradication of yellow halogen bulbs from the front of my car . They might be slightly dearer than other ones mentioned in the thread but they're worth it for the fact that the ballasts are super slim (at least half the height of any other HID's I've had) and it makes locating them under the head light a lot easier . Here's hoping they last as long as my current dip beam ones, which are still going strong after 2 years. Baz

Ordered a set of H1 35w 6000k HIDs and H1 main beam bulbs for £69.99 inc postage from http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/. The kit comes with a 2year warranty, and the bulbs are warrantied for 1 year. Next day delivery too apparently.

What a SCAM!
I have yet not recieved my xenon, delivery address is my work which is open monday-saturday from 07.00 - 21.00.
They asked me to go to the post office... because it was sent by royal mail. (nothing at the postoffice) Then they said it was sent by DHL, it took me 5 messages to get a track and trace number:
Identcode: 844009073912226 From: MIDDLESEX, GB
Pickup date: 2009-09-15 Status: Delivered OK References: 350246227363 844009073912226 Item details Identcode: JJD0002267420512417
Pickup date: 2009-09-15 Last track event: Status OK, delivered(Information of Delivery): Napoli / IT, 2009-09-22 12:00
Which is going to Napoli Italy! And has been sent out on 15 September while my order wasnt before 6th of November!
I wonder what they come up with next..does anyone know what my rights are and how to get my $$ back now?

Yeah he offered to send new ones last friday if they would not arrive before the weekend. Sent him a msg saturday with saying that they didn't arrive, then i got a tracking number to Italy again from him. "Dear buyer, Thanks for your email. We have contact DHL and they gave us another tracking numberJJD0002267420515663 Would you please check first? Or contact the DHL department in your area directly. If you have any further question, please do not hestiate to contact us. Yours sincerely," How do you mean, we have contact DHL? If you ship something, you get a tracking number, it's not like you have to seperately contact DHL for it afterwards.. sigh, ill just ask paypal for my money back. Oh, and their reason for the package not being here yet: IF THE ESTIMATED TIMES FOR YOUR LOCATION HAVE ELAPSED, BUT YOU HAVEN'T GOT YOUR ITEM. It may be caused by the following two reasons: A) Bad weather B) Quality problem

Owning these myself, and to balance the discussion. Mine are indeed very good and are a definitely a huge improvement over the standard lights - now these really are crap!. For an outlay of only £29.00, I would recommend a punt.
What is typical, when buying products that are (copies of initial developments) mass produced and sold on at a lower cost is that the quality control can be 'let's say' hit and miss. This in turn will mean some poor batches and disappointed customers. Sorry Sam - lol
However, having owned a Lexus with factory fitted HID's, sure they are not as good as these were. However, once again, I only paid £29.99 for these Fiat fitting jobbies, still happy enough to keep them, even if they last for only 1 year!

I'm planning to fit HIDs to my coop. I'm looking at 35w 6000K which I understand are slightly blue in colour, which is what I'm after. However, the dipped lights below are apparently on 35w 6000K HIDs: As a follow up on this, I got this kit (35W, H1, 6000K) and here how it looks on the car: I also got the foglights H1 bulbs and sidelights quad LED bulbs. More pictures to follow (at night time) when I take the car out of workshop. Is this just a contrast against the ink black colour or are 6000Ks actually this blue? If they are I'll probably go 4300K... Proccy/Baz it'd be good to know how yours compare as these are probably what I'd go for in a 6000K.

Hi Proccy - I've posted a full reply in the general discussion section. You have 6000K 35 w HIDs right? Are they as blue as the ones in that picture I quoted?

mikey, I also feel that my HIDs (above) are bluish but what I ordered was 6000K as written on the box. However, it was not written on the ballasts Here are couple of photos of my car at night (I feel they are whiter on below photos though): At the end, I'm happy with them and they really make difference to the Coupé

Thanks guys. Hani, I agree yours look whiter in the dark & they're definitely way better than the standard yellow halogens! Cheers for your pic too proccy! I'm now sure 35w 6000Ks are the right ones for my dipped beam. I know the full beams use the same H1 bulbs but (forgive my ignorance ) are the standard bulbs brighter on the high beam i.e. higher wattage or are the beams the same brightness just a different angle/focus? I'm wondering whether you'd want 55w HIDs for the high beams if you had 35w on the dipped ...

I've a feeling Hani's camera was on 'fluorescent' mode, which alters the hue of photos to look natural under strip lights. The effect makes normal bulbs look very white, and HIDs look very blue. Top Gear have got into the habit of doing it for their night time tests, so you think 'Ooh, that cars got good lights', until you notice every other car's lights are just as 'good'! The bulbs themselves determine the colour temperature, not the ballasts. that also means if you get a colour you're not happy with, you can change the bulbs for a different one! I can't recommend using them as full beams though, the slow light up time and the fact a number of people have had problems; they don't like being turned on and off in rapid succession before they get warm (5 minutes +), as what tends to happen with full beams, and flashing. It seriously reduces the bulb life. Anyway, I went for 55w 5200K, and Nightbreakers for the mains, best of both worlds! Might think about 35W for the fogs though... Pics to follow...
