I've only ever owned one car at a time, though I've always been a named driver on the missus policy on her car.

Just wondering, if you buy a second car in your own name, what the insurance is like on the second car? ie is it cheaper than it would be if you insured it as your only car?

Sorry I bet that sounds really stupid, but having never been in that position I was just wondering.

You can get multi car policies through some insurance companies (eg Admiral), but if you end up getting 2 separate policies it ends up being rather expensive, as you can only use your no claims bonus on one policy - you start off with 0 no claims again for the 2nd car. Obviously make sure you use your no claims on the most expensive car insurance..

I had 2 cars for a couple of years, and had 2 sets of no claims bonuses

Speak to your insurer! Some insurers will mirror you no claims onto a second policy.

Greenlight did this for me when I had a bravo as well as the coupe!

So it's not possible to add a second car to the main policy then?

You can only carry your no claims for one car which you insure.

Multicar policies like mine with Admiral mirrored the NCB for me.

Coupe now sold!

Nope, Greenlight mirrored them. (Actually they mirrored the discount)

Im going with admiral, usual cost for coupe £1500

With multiqoute my insurance is £860 for my coupe,£570 for gf stilo.

I use my three years ncb on my coupe and she starts to accure ncb on her car.

She can drive mine and i can drive hers which is a bonus.

Much cheaper than my coupe on my own.

They wont mirror my ncb on the gf's as its her car not mine.

If one of the cars is a coupe, try insuring that with Footman James on a classic car policy as they do not take NCD into consideration, then you can use your NCD on your other car. I'm insured with Footman James Fully Comp on my 20vt on a 4500 milage a year policy for about 300 squid

Sorry to here you are having trouble with Footman James, perhaps they have changed their policy on fiat coupes since last year. My insurance is due for renewal with them in the next month so I will let you know how i get on eith them.
