its held at elvington in york, teams are submitted to do 1/4 mile, top speed and handling course and points are awarded per team.

there is some awesome cars there and i think you can compete individually.

If you want to compete you need to get a quarter mile time of 13.0 seconds or less to qualify.

13 seconds really isn't easy, you need some pretty good power to get it or a VERY good launch.

I no, I've already had a try this year!!
Worth a crack and if I can't get 13 seconds, it's a good excuse to do some more upgrades!!!

14.2 but it was a hot day, car was fully loaded with seats ect, poor road rubber and a full tank with little boost (0.9bar)

im planning a few mods for traction, more bhp + a flea map

im aiming for little over 300bhp at the fly, do you think thats enough??

Nope, Nigels best with 300 was 13.6, you will need 350+

If you have just over 300bhp you "may" be able to get a 13.0sec pass if you strip a lot of weight from the car and also decent rubber. Dan20VT (I think that was his forum name??) got a 13.0 with 330bhp??

Its all about the launch at the end of the day. I still need to perfect mine. I'm hoping to knock another half second off.

It is quite hard to get <13 secs. Totally different kettle of fish I know but there are guys on the Monaro forum running silly power and still only just getting into the 12s.

I reckon my VXR500 could do a 13 with decent launch and good tyres, but it would be close.

Only one way to find out wink

Can't wait to go again with some decent rubber, less weight and hopefully a bit of a cooler. It was scorching when I went.

Aye, I'm thinking of giving it a go actually.

Times for the VXR500 (or at least cars which have similar mods etc) tend to be around the 13 sec mark, give or take a few tenths. Seems very few of them get sub-13 though.

That really surprises me though actually, would've thought it should be quicker - especially if you pop the power/weight etc into Flea's magic calculator, which reckons 12.17sec 1/4 mile or 11.97 on a drag strip.

I'm thinking of doing TOTB in the MK as well. Theoretically it should do sub 13 seconds, but I'm only really interested at having a go at the handling circuit...

13 seconds is only for FWD cars. RWD 12 and less I think?

I managed a best of 13.376 with 300bhp - I was on road tyres (at about 20psi) and only the boot was stripped out (no spare wheel, tools or jack)

the launch was one of the best I've ever done, but could have been better on track tyres

The only way to get a sub-13 with 'only' 300 bhp is to strip it out VERY severely and run soft trackday tyres

At Elvington, I'm still only getting high 12s, due to the surface and the heat (I think my best quarter at TOTB is a 12.8)

Its hugely difficult - when I was around 300bhp, I could rattle off mid 13s all day long, but with 100bhp more, its actually harder to pull a good time out of the bag - its just too easy to either bog down or light up the tyres.

Still - its worth a try - we want as many Coupes as possible at next year's event

Nigel, any chance you can come down to pod to give me any tips??
I'm planning 300+ with some flea magic....

I would love to take part in totb and with a little help I should be there providing 1/4mile times work to my advantage!!

There are lots of very good drivers/launchers on the forum with well over 300BHP, They struggle to come close to qualifying for TOTB,

I think you have a HUGE mountain to climb and your pretty much at the bottom,

Its way harder than getting a 300bhp car, and launching well,

It needs to be stripped to bone, Slicks added, and more so 350bhp and an amazing launch and grippy track,

Id never attempt it unless I had 400bhp ish, - to compensate for my lack of experience at the pod, (and ive been 5 times!)

One thing that you may be able to do is pay Leighton to give you a race fuel map as well to give a few more ponies.

But I've got to agree with Chrissy, its going to be very difficult.
