Anyone got any experience of HU's that can play DVDs containing MP3/WMV files? They seem to be available and it appears to be a good way of getting a 4gb hard drive into your stereo. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/idea.gif" alt="" />

My concern is that they would be slow to operate and that flicking from album to album or searching might be slow like a CD changer rather than quick like a PC. Any thoughts?

Have a go with one in a Car Audio Centre, they will let you have a play, but take a disk with you. I have found that onse the disk has been read they are quite quick, but initial reading does take some time.

yeah,it will take a good while for it to search the disc initially. the jvc giga disc jobbies are okay. not sure if you can put files within files to speed it up, ie folder called dance would have dance etc

I've just got a JVC DV4202. It only takes a few seconds to scan the disc, and I've got a full 4.5 Gb on this disc.

It's kinda ignores any folder heirarchy you put on there, by which I mean that you can't choose to explore a top level foler (ie Artist) and then pick a lower level folder (Album). It just assigns each folder an number and you go direct to the folder number.

Now that I know, I'm gonna put another disc together with the folders numbered to start with. That'll make it a damn sight easier to navigate.
