FMIC + Hybdrid - Fitted :) #9496

Hi All,

Just had the Pro-Alloy FMIC from the Highwayman group buy and the Super Spool Hybrid Turbo (from Barbz) fitted by Rog at Powerfiat, and all I can say is WOW!

The turbo spools up so much quicker than before and the boost doesn’t drop off like it used to with the standard turbo- holds 0.9 bar to the redline. So basically the turbo does exactly what it says on the tin.

Traction in 1st gear is not the best but it puts the power down much better in second (new tyres are being fitted today though). I’m going to get a straight induction kit and get the car properly mapped in the new year as I’m currently running Graham L’s Gtech chip.

The day at Powerfiat was enjoyable and got to meet a few fellow coupe owners. Rog and Francois did some great work on my car, chopping bits out of my bumper while fitting the FMIC was painful to watch but completely necessary.

Rog did comment on how well the pro alloy FMIC was made, saying he has ‘respect’ for the chap who made it.

I’d wholeheartedly recommend these mods to anyone with a coupe in more standard trim.

£595 – super spool turbo
£400 – FMIC
£200 – Fitting

The smile on your face when you fly past a Porsche 911 C4S on the motorway this morning – PRICELESS.

Just one question Gouki, did they have to chop of a lot of the bumper and the undertray to fit the FMIC?

It's really hard for me to quantify how much they had to chop off but I'll give it a go.

Undertray: You loose a semi circular section from the front which is about 12 inches in diameter.

Bumper: Lots of little bits were cut off, the longest part about 6 inches x 2 inches. Mostly the small bits were trimming of corners that would catch on the FMIC.

If you've got any other questions I'm happy to answer them.

Those super spools are flying off the shelf... won't be too many left before long! What boost are you running Gouki?

Glad you liked the Pro Alloy FMIC , and that Rog was impressed with the quality of the product .

For those who would like to join Gouki in having one of these fitted, there is now a Group Buy in operation .

Flea, I'm running 1.2bar at the moment and will have it mapped to 1.3bar in the new year.

this is the 'GTiR' turbo that is mentioned, only a newer design whicy spools up abit quicker.

gouki - with a decent elec boost controller you can hold 1.1 bar to the redline, your Bleed valve will limit your top end power now.

1.3 bar its max efficient boost level.

there are a few 300bhp+ cars now fitted with these, although they have been mapped also with a unichip.

Thanks rog...

Is this turbo a retail version or is it made up by combining different parts from different turbos? I guess it would be a 500 rpm difference or so if i choose a gt2860rs .64 and perhaps 800 if .86?

I have also got one of these 'superspool' turbos.
At my last RR session I made 300.8 BHP and 280 ft/lbs.
My car is unmapped.

I've also had one of these fitted a couple of weeks ago by Rog (Thanks again ) Ordered it from Barbz on an exchange basis. Fixed my smoking problem and car pulls harder all the way to the red line . Only running 1.05bar at the moment as back on standard chip and intercooler. Feels quicker than my old turbo did at 1.2bar with a Gtec1. Will get it rolling roaded to double check fueling and maybe re-fit the Gtec. Won't run higher boost until I fit an FMIC/chip.

Oh it looks like 2006 is going to be an expensive year for me... this combo looks well worth it - what else will I need? Fuel Pump? Anything else?

Would recommend some sort of boost controller, either a PRV or electronic boost controller. If not a boost gauge as a minimum....

Exhaust would be a good one aswell probably. Good downpipe will help spool up as will straight induction pipe!!!

Nobby & h2ypr thanks. Just received my PRV (thanks cosmograph), have boost guage already, and Pipecraft (Rog)(catback) exhaust.

If I ask Rog to fit this kit, he can also arrange a Pipecraft decat too.

I *think* the Pipecraft is 3", so how much would front pipe cost? (edit: oh yeah just found yr group buy h2ypr)
