Seriously getting Pi$$ed off with my coup, not only is the turbo doing a rolling marlborough reds advert, clutch started slipping, the cambelt is up for renwal, I broke passenger door lock in snow and the bloomin remote locking doesn't work at all!

This after I've given my last 4 weekends sorting my oil pressure (thanks so much for the help with that!)

Dare I say it, might go back to my old Focus RS.

You've got to push through the pain barrier and stick with it! laugh

Every now and then I have a fit and say that I'm selling mine but even though she's been up for sale twice - I JUST CAN'T DO IT!!!

Even when I've been at the side of the road twice in the past 2 months (1st time puncture due to running over something in road, 2nd time due to door locks freezing open and doors randomly opening themselves when driving along) and have sworn that the coupe had to go - she still remains.

It was sealed the other night - we picked up my new car from Wakefield (MX5) and Mr L drove the MX5 and I followed in the coupe. Well I followed until I got bored of travelling so slowly and overtook him. He just loved the look of her as she went past him and was raving about it all night. The coupe is beautiful and the odd flaw has to be forgiven!

Why does such a beautiful car have to be so fragile?! Did just peek out the window, and felt quite bad for my thread..

I'll give her a wash and a polish, i'm sure that'll make me smile again wink

You just need 1 good moment and it makes up for all the bad!

If you can't resist turning around a couple of times after you've parked your coupe up just to catch a glimpse of her - you're hooked and will never be able to get rid of her! laugh

Because it's a Fiat, Italian. It's called character.

I can completely understand your feelings Nievelc, Been there, done that. Deside whats important and move along, Its silly to expect plain sailing with 15+ year old car. Its a relatively simple chaise, live with the understanding that it WILL break, or sell it and get something newer.

I can firmly say this current coupe will be the last coupe I will ever own. My personal prioraties are now shifting from having a mental 250bhp car to having something I know I can open the doors to on a frosty morning and pull off with out the handbrake sticking on, getting to the garage and being able to open the fuel cap, not checking the oil after every trip and not panicking at every little squeak, rattle, noise and intensely staring at the oil pressure guage......

Coupe's are like your own children !!

Drive you mad, cost a fortune and require constant time and attention. But one smile from a child / roar from the 5 pot ( insert personal favourite coupe-ism here ) and it falls to the back of your mind and the love returns laugh

Well I think my coup is like herbie in a wierd way, just went to the gym and she roared like a savage beast and my eyes lit up once again love. I'm sure she sensed my love was dwindling.

To be fair Sam - those things could happen to any car! At the end of the day it's a mechanical object sitting outside at in severe low temperatures. When I was last at work before christmas every person in my office commented on the fact that they had not been able to get into their cars that morning - volvo, rover, citroen, merc, audi AND the coop! Granted - mine was the only one where the doors froze OPEN but it's the best looking in the car park so i still consider myself lucky! LOL laugh

After the problems I've had today with it I was falling out of love. That was until I saw the pic of her going up the hill at Brooklands and that gave me the love back.

Well, the battery has finally died on mine.

I went out to defrost it about 5.15pm, ready for going to work.

Had to do the usual warm water trick on the handles, etc, to even get in first laugh

Car wouldn't fire, tried it a couple of more times and prayed at the same time, but it wouldn't have it.

Kettle and me back in the house, with some frantic calls to bro and Mum laugh

Mum gave me a lift to work and I've just got a taxi home shocked

Haven't had to book a taxi for years, but it was great laugh Didn't have to de ice the Coupe and was straight into a warm car laugh

I've just been into my shed for a battery charger and whipped the battery off the Coupe and put it on charge.

Hopefully, it'll be charged enough to start in the morning and I'll go and buy a new battery smile

One of those things though, I wouldn't hate the Coupe because of it.

In fact, I think it loves me, as it failed to start at home, before I went to work. So, I'm happy knowing the car is at home and I haven't had to leave it in work at midnight and try to arrange things at midnight smile

No mate, its not going any where, just that this was my aim for a long time, and there is nothing else I would replace it with coupe wise. So its my last coupe!
(All doors and windows opened this morning :D, preventative maintenance! )

Time for a bit of falling in love with the Coop on this thread tongue
We're just back from a 611 mile trip around most of Ireland over the last 6 days, visiting the Gf's sister for New Years. The car was faultless in the cold weather.

Parked out in the open 5 of the nights, down to -5c a couple of nights. No problems with locks (Weldlite telfon cycle oil wink ) or door seals and I left the handbrake off.
We drove steady on some very icy back roads and motorways yesterday and the Coop was very comfortable and the heater fan left on 23c and auto all the way laugh

We did the last 200 miles today and 5 miles from home, I gave the car a power hose car wash to get all the salt/grit off, including a good blast on the suspension and underneath.
She still has the odd squeak and rattle as ever, but I won't change it, 31mpg too laugh

That was a great few days, but I can see where you're coming from Nievelc, I have been keeping an eye on other Coupe type cars, but until this generation Audi TT RS (5-pot) gets within reach, I think I'll hang on for a while.

If you get a Monaro love do let us know what's it's like laugh

hey guys, i've just joined the forum, and hope to be here for a good while. i've just bought my first coop two days ago and i've allready had pretty much every problem above.

th main problem is that i live in trondheim, norway (i'm a welshman originally), and a warm winters day here is -10c. just checked the thermometer, its showing -21c. as you can imagine, it's not too easy on anything mechanical.

so far the doors have jammed shut, stuck open, handbrake stuck on, windows seized, boot seized and the indicator bulb went. to top it off i poured warm water on the windscreen to remove the snow and ice, the water instantly turned to ice and i had to spend an hour scraping it off.

luckily in the boot i found a tube of seal wax to keep the doors ice free, some anti freeze spray for the windscreen, a set of spare bulbs, a bottle of castrols finest and a set of rear brake calipers and a plug in electric heater with a remote control along with a note reading "thought you might appreciate these" on top. thats a typical norwegian sense of humour.
i'm getting a sense of things to come but, you know what though, i love this car!!!

In todays market, your best bet IMO is ditch that motor, or keep it for parts, and put a little effort into seeking out and buying a good one thats had all the work done to it. You couldn't give them away on the 2nd hand market these days. Bound to work out atleast as cheap if not considerably cheaper than throwing more money at yours.

I kind of agree with John. We are all on here for one simple reason, the Coop, OK that's an obvious statement. There are several questions you have to ask yourself & most have been answered in this thread. What ever you do its going to cost, as John points out you're not going to get much for the Coop if you decide to sell. I recently spent a few grand getting my Coop back into shape, & the way I justify it was the simple fact I could ve went out & bought a 10 grand car & possibly have had no problems, but certainly not as much fun, & all totted up I haven't spent anything like 10 grand "yet" Best of luck. snowman

Problem is if you spend 10k on a german / american car not meaning to be too general but I think we all follow my jist, you can essentially recouperate that 10k, perhaps a few hundred quid up / down.

Problem is your kinda stuck with it once you get it. If you dont fix the clutch, etc you have to break it as most people excluding mr patch would have the perseverance to restore to it's former beauty which is a dam shame. Obviously when it's working though love its amazing just a shame you have to watch the oil / oil pressure almost daily!
