Open pit lane @ Le Mans July/August 2015.

Open pit lane @ Le Mans July/August 2015. - 21/02/2015 15:12

Time to post up info on this years dates for the open pit lane days at the Le Mans circuits.

Friday 31st July 2015 on the Maison Blanche, £250.00
Saturday 1st August 2015 on the Bugatii circuit, £250.00

.... or book both days for £450.00 driving

It's being run by Delta racing again but this year tickets can be purchased direct from their website instead of Trackday.

There are no extra costs involved with passengers, minimum age 16yrs, no noise limits, start at 9am, break for lunch and then run until sun down making it a very chilled weekend.

The Brit hotel is the main place where everyone stays for the weekend, it's situated 5 minutes away from the circuit if you use the back lanes and also has a local fuel station that sells reqular petrol and E85 should your car be mapped for such.
There is a camping area next to the hotel and an area on the circuit grounds which has easy access to excellent toilet/shower facilities, there is no charge for camping over the weekend.

Hotel costs to be confirmed.

2013 was our first year visiting Le Mans and meeting the Delta racings staff, we were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed the whole experience so I'm pleased we're able to go back and join them again this year.

If you have any questions that I can help with let me know, or email Stewart from Delta racing at:

deltaracingltd@gmail.com

I hope to see a few of you there again, it's an awesome track experience smile

We'll travel over on the Friday morning ferry and get to Le Mans after lunch hopefully, that way we can set the car up Friday ready for the Bugatii circuit.
Stay Sunday for the classic cars again and start back on Monday morning.

Maison Blanche is an infield circuit that's 2.9km long, it's totally separate to the Bugatii circuit but still fun and challenging to hook it up correct.

The Bugatii is 4.1km and uses the main pits, if you go for this circuit you'll be running on the same tarmac they do for the Le Mans 24hr, just a shorter distance as you don't leave the circuit. The challenging infield corners bring you back to the start/finish line so you'll be passing the grand stands at 100mph+.

Re: Open pit lane @ Le Mans July/August 2015. - 20/05/2015 09:32

Received an email from Stewart this morning explaining there's been some changes to the regulations, the important one to note is they're not allowing passengers under the age of 18yrs now.

--------------------------------------------------------

Hi All

As we are approaching our 10th anniversary of Delta Racing track days at Le Mans we have some new regulations to inform you which have been imposed on the ACO who run the trackday by the FFSA (French equivalent of the British MSA - Motor Sports Association).

We have spoken to the ACO in depth regarding the new regulations and the interpretations which will only effect a small number of you, so please call us and we can explain the rulings and regulations especially those which are high lighted in red.

Eligible Vehicles

Unfortunately we are unable to run sports or single seater race type vehicles weighing less than 800 kgs with saloon or GT cars. This effectively means that we can not run an open pit system with Radicals and the like and would have to run them in separate groups,so unless we have at least 20 then it will not be practical to run them. This ruling does not apply to road going Caterhams,Aerial Atoms,Exige,Elise etc - if you have any doubts if your vehicle is eligible please send us all the information, specification and photographs and we will send it to the ACO for clarification before accepting your entry. We do not want to be in a situation where you have the expense of travelling to the circuit and not be able to run.

Noise Limits

There has always been decibel noise limit of 102 which in the past has been largely over looked as long as you had a silencer ! Due to environmentalists they now have monitors around the circuit so if you have concerns re your vehicle please call us and we explain their interpretation of the limit and how it will read.

New rules on the Le Mans circuit for 2015.

Production vehicles:

- All Drivers and passenger must wear helmet and seat belts.
- Obligation to wear long clothing: covered arms and legs in all vehicles for driver and passenger.(No shorts, T shirts or skirts)
- Prohibition to fix outdoor camera on the car, securely fastening inside ok.(Go Pros inside the vehicle)
- Maximum 30 cars on the track at the same time.
- Sighter lap obligatory .
- Passengers under 18 not allowed. (please call us if you have concerns and we will explain)
- Overtaking should only be on the straights and wide corners.(It will be explained at the briefing should not change much for previous years)
-Cabriolet vehicles prohibited without the hood up and a roll bar (Please call us if you have concerns most modern convertible have a integrated roll hoop)

Competition vehicles Regulations:

A vehicle is considered a competition car if it does not have a log book and registration documents.
- Driver and passenger: helmeted and belted.
- Driver and passenger: to wear homologated fire proof race overalls, underwear, gloves, boots.

We apologise for these regulations however unfortunately they have been imposed on us and we trust it will not spoil your enjoyment of these iconic tracks and look forward to you joining us in our 10th year at Le Mans.

For those staying over on Saturday night we have a 5 piece band from Jersey ('All Your Heroes') to help us celebrate the night, so any of you budding musicians who feel like a 'jamming session' I am sure you would be more than welcome to join in !
We are also having the barbecue on Friday night which proved very popular last year even if you are not staying at the Brit Hotel you are very welcome to join us.

So if you have not sent in your forms and intending to participate can you please do so as the entry is filling up and we have to make the hotel and ferry (Channel Islanders) reservations.

Many thanks, as usual and queries, questions please just ask

Cheers
Stewart

Talking with Delta today and track time is pretty much all booked up now except a few spaces left for the Maison Blanche circuit on the Friday.

Jake and I are now settled in the Ashford travel lodge for tonight, one hour delays for tomorrows boat and then 300 miles to Le Mans.

Multipla has coped well with the track car, trailer and spares, 60mph returns 35mpg so not bad as it's the 110 model, hills need to be planned so when idiots pull in front and then slow down they're encouraged to move faster with some subtle hand gestures, meh.

Hi,

spend the day yesterday at the Open Pit Lane Le Mans and i can tell you that it was a very good day out.
Spoke to a few FCCUK members , but didn't go on the track:felt my car and myself were not ready.
The circuit is very close from the town.
The ambiance there , was quite relax and unstressful , you seems to be able to go on track whenever you want for as long as you want. The paddocks seems to be safe.

The weather was perfect: sunny ,not to hot.About the cars there:mainly Porches 911,few Ferraris512&358 and Lambos ,1clio,MeganeRS,GTRs.The fastest there was the 918 , more impressive than Lambos and Ferraris, all these cars weren't there for the show.
The Coupes were not out of place even if not the fastest, have to say Joe's had some piping problems.

Re: Open pit lane @ Le Mans July/August 2015. - 03/08/2015 12:43

Great weekend in all at Le Mans.
I had a boost spike issue with the track car (2.7) which caused some problems with the rubber join off the turbo to the solid induction, it wasn't holding even at 0.8 and I had to be towed back in three times as it just wouldn't hold the pressure, third time back the Marshalls said the car had to stay in the pits so Rocket Ronnie never actually saw a full lap unfortunately frown

Other Coupé owners had great sessions on both days and I was lucky enough to be able to drive Sue's LE 221 so the whole weekends track time wasn't a total waste, her car is very much set up for these circuits so I was happy hooning around in comfort, and with A/C smile

There were lots of nice cars here this year, the car park was probably double the value of 2013.

In all a great trip, great company, good food and accommodation, very long but successful with us all returning home safely and with working cars

Here's to the next one thumb

I must go and sleep now!

I'm going to ask the obvious question Reubs.

Why so many Jersey registered cars?
Posted By: samsite999

Re: Open pit lane @ Le Mans July/August 2015. - 07/08/2015 09:51

The event was put together by a group of people in Jersey. They wanted track time but the only way they could be taken seriously at the larger tracks was to set up a company. So they did.
There were some UK people there but it was mostly Jersey registered vehicals.

Re: Open pit lane @ Le Mans July/August 2015. - 10/08/2015 11:57

Having had time to recover and download the event here's a more detailed post on the Delta weekend.

Travel to Dover was pretty easy tbh even with operation stack running on the M20. Journey with trailer to Ashford Travel lodge was fine, left work at 5.30pm and arrived just before 10pm so still plenty of time in hand for dinner and a beer.

Thursday morning traffic was slow but flowing to the A2, ferry updates said all were running on time but by the time we got there we were all bumped to the 10.45am, we had all day to travel so we weren't too bothered. P&O ferry was rammed, Sam and Em very nearly didn't make it on being at the back of the que but his Mito just squeezed in the rear so full house and off we sailed.

Journey down to Le Mans was shall we say slow at 55-60mph, Sam and Reuben kept in convoy, bless, and we trudged along with ease until I lost a wheel weight in Rouen after hitting a pot hole, this gave me wheel wobble at 55mph so it was either sit at 50 or 65 which is kinda hard to do with a trailer and their big hills so the last 70 odd miles were the hardest as it just seemed to draggggggggggggg.........

Arrived at the Brit hotel, dump bags and off to the bar for a large cold beer drink steak house dinner and bed zzz

Friday was a prep day for us at the circuit to unload the trailer, check my car and generally chill. Delta were on circuit at Maison Blanche so Jake and I popped down to watch them after lunch and we grabbed a few laps in Sue's which was fun. Maison Blanche is a very fast technical circuit but her Coupés set up is perfect for this so much fun was had to the point were I nearly lost it at 100+mph shocked so I brought it back in after a cool down lap as I getting quick and didn't want to bin it laugh

Friday night............... I blame Nick and Mike! drunk chinny

Saturday slow start but I made it to the 8.45am briefing, just, Nick and Mike didn't laugh

My track time was cut short, read above frown

Generally though the day was ace, blue skies, 35 degree and some seriously fast vehicles out on track. The 918 Porsche is in a whole league of it's own, 1000FtLbs of torque that made the Hurricane look like it was going backwards, just a shame the interior is so dull for a £700k car.

Evening meal in Le Mans opposite the Cathedral, 3 course meal with drinks for 35 Euros each and an added bonus of a light show projected onto the Cathedral known as the Nuit des Chimères.

Sunday we steamed back in no time at all, front wheels were rebalanced Friday so that issue was resolved and I repacked the trailer differently which made towing far easier, 21.45pm ferry and home for bed by 04.00am after dropping the trailer off at work.

This is the second weekend we've attended Le Mans with Delta racing and it was just as enjoyable as our first back in 2013. Costs weren't bad at all at £250.00 for the whole day on circuit, that's 8 hours driving on such an iconic circuit which is worth every penny in comparison to what we have here in the UK and those costs.
The format was changed this year unbeknown to me that Delta were offering half day sessions at £100.00 for either am or pm so next year I'll be doing the afternoons on both circuits so it's not such a rush in the morning, I like that extra cup of coffee in the morning.

Costs break down:

Travel lodge £67.00
Ferry with trailer £265.00
Toll roads £60.00
Track time £250.00
Brit hotel for 3 nights £180.00
Meals for 2x roughly £250.00
Track fuel £48.00 (60 litres of E85)
Multipla fuel £160.00 (2.5 x tanks diesel)

If you like track time, road tripping, great scenery, good food, beer and a laugh keep this in mind for next year as it's definitely worth the effort and journey thumb

It's a fair whack for a long weekend but it sounds like much fun. The Norway trip was about twice that, all up... but that was for a fortnight laugh

Re: Open pit lane @ Le Mans July/August 2015. - 10/08/2015 16:51

Next year I think I'll take the Portsmouth/La Harve ferry route as it's a hard 5hr slog with the trailer from Calais and hills need to be planned for otherwise it's 3rd gear before the top.
Posted By: magooagain

Re: Open pit lane @ Le Mans July/August 2015. - 10/08/2015 17:56

To be honest Joe you were always going to struggle with your tow car. The trailor and track coupe must have been somewhere near 1,700 kilos combined. So it's a big ask.
But yes those hills do need a fair bit of anticipation.

Spa for me is 12 hours uphill.

I hope I can make Le man next year as it looks like much fun was had.

Re: Open pit lane @ Le Mans July/August 2015. - 10/08/2015 18:28

When I lived in SW France I always used the Newhaven - Dieppe route, and used to drive down the Mulsanne straight on the way.

About a 4 hour crossing, I think it only runs in Summer months now.

I think it took about 2-3 hours from Dieppe in those pre-autoroute days. It was an 8 hour 400 mile drive home to just south of Angouleme.

Re: Open pit lane @ Le Mans July/August 2015. - 10/08/2015 18:39

Well given that the max towing weight for the Multipla is only 1300kg, I hope you've added lots of lightness to your track car laugh

Re: Open pit lane @ Le Mans July/August 2015. - 12/08/2015 09:51
