Well, it would be rude not to...

What could possibly go wrong? Well, last time it was arriving at Dover with one wrong passport, breaking down and abandoning the Coupe at the St Bernard Pass, paying a small fortune to get the Coupe recovered back to Turin, and having an accident on the way back in Antwerp...but highlights were the 2 days in Turin and Parco Valentino, plus visits to Fiat Centro Storico, the National Automobile Museum, pininfarina and the Heritage Hub (all in Turin) and the Abarth Museum in Belgium...

Sounds interesting- went to Milan in 2010 for the Alfa Centenary which was excellent. Could well be tempted with this. Look forward to more details

Me too rolleyes
Driveshaft decided to eat itself in Germany. None available in Europe so was stuck for 2 days while a spare was sent over.
Managed to get there Saturday night and had to head back on Sunday afternoon after the dinner as I had to catch the ferry from Amsterdam on Monday.
Good blast back though laugh

I'm very much supporting this philosophy laugh

Brian, we may even have a choice of Rosyth-Zeebrugge by then, that reduces the European driving leg by about 100km/1 hr but seem to remember it was an expensive fare back in the day. Atm Hull-Rotterdam is cheaper than NCL-IJmuiden and 100km less driving over there as well though more in the UK.

Early days yet but do folk have their favoured accommodation points en route in Europe?

I'm aware of showing an unhealthy increasing interest in this trip laugh
Posted By: Rosso

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 02/07/2022 09:23

Simon, I read this Rosyth-Zeebrugge chat online back in 2017 or 2018 but then an article came up just a couple of weeks ago. It would save on a little bit of driving for us this side but I expect it will inevitably come down to the cost difference Rosyth and Newcastle. The cost of our trips from Newcastle to IJmuiden haven't really changed much but the expensive part for us was pet friendly cabins which almost doubles. I don't expect we will be bringing dogs for 2024.

Going from Zeebrugge to Turin does change the route to take make use of French roads and approx 2 hours/ 50 miles shorter but perhaps with French toll costs I'm not sure of extra cost. I've no experience of the roads through France as its predominantly been Germany in to Austria or Switzerland but it may very well be worth looking at it as an option if its up and running before then.

We've certainly found some great places to stay along the routes we have taken and split the journey in up into 2 night stop and both in Germany. Id probably say May 2022 trips had our best finds yet.

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 02/07/2022 11:33

How much of your journeys have been on toll roads Brian or do you tend to avoid them?
Posted By: Rosso

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 02/07/2022 11:52

At the beginning of the trips we took the decision to not go via France because of the tolls and that's remained for the others however its always up for consideration. I think Rob might be the person to speak to for his opinion of both French or German routes.

There's no tolls in Germany, Austria has tolls, Switzerland you need a vignette at 40 euro which covers you unless you use some tunnels, Italy has tolls throughout but with the route to Turin I think we would only encounter 1 toll. From leaving Turin to Switzerland via Aosta valley there is 1 toll.

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 02/07/2022 16:16

French motorways are generally first class with max speed limit of 83mph in fine weather.

There are regular stopping off areas, either for a wee and a rest, or larger ones for meals, fuel and a proper break.

They do have a cost, but you can cover long distances very easily.
Posted By: Ballypete

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 02/07/2022 19:37

I found French motorways the easiest way to go if you don’t have a great deal of time for your overall trip. Stopped at Metz when going to Rome via Switzerland, and Dijon is a great overnight stop before crossing into Italy when headed for Turin. With an Emovis tag in your windscreen you dont even need to stop at the toll plazas.

Pete, Does the Emovis tag cover France only?

I think when we looked at the italian Telepass it worked out very expensive and so just cheaper just paying at the tolls.

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 03/07/2022 09:43

Brian, what would you estimate the extra cost of tolls to be?

Would that cost be offset by shorter journey time/fuel savings?

Fuel savings and fiat coupe doesnt naturally roll off the tongue laugh

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 03/07/2022 12:23

At a steady 80mph I was was getting a range of 450 miles per tank which I think is damn good and certainly a pretty heavy laden coupe.

Cant really comment on costs of French tolls. Going via Germany and Switzerland is 52 miles shorter. but see belows Via Michelin app calculator.

Simon, for or us travelling by ferry from Newcastle

Ijmuiden to Turin via Germany and Switzerland 734 miles approx 11 hrs 52 mins

Ijmuiden to Turin via Belgium and France 786 miles approx 11 hrs 56 mins

52 miles shorter via Germany and toll free, 40 euro swiss vignette, and then 30 euro approx tolls from Switzerland into Italy and so I expect this is still the cheaper route.

Have a look at this great app it breaks down the lot for you. The Via Michelin allows you to enter a route, car, fuel cost etc

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 03/07/2022 16:07

Cheapest route will be through Germany & Switzerland, but it is often quite busy and not overly entertaining.

We have travelled down that way quite a few times. I would choose a route to get you down to the interesting areas swiftly. The French tolls are expensive but are mostly rather quiet, especially if you avoid the A6 & Lyon. Once in the south take an overnight. The following day leave the auto-routes and pick an interesting D Route across the Alps and on into Turin.

The D1006 was a nice route over, plenty of Forts to explore on the border. The N94 Briancon - Sestriere was also a nice route over to Turin.
Posted By: Edinburgh

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 03/07/2022 17:47

My inclination is to take a shorter route and arrive at destination earlier on this occasion, if I were "on holiday" I'd rather take a mixture of scenic/motorway route.

Autobahns will certainly eat up the mileage however will increase fuel consumption but happy to take Brian's recommendation having done the trip several times.

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 04/07/2022 08:10

I'll probably go the same route as 2019, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland through the tunnel to Italy, as Bob says Germany driving is quite dull mile after mile zzz
Posted By: Rosso

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 04/07/2022 18:19

Sounds an interesting route Joe. Would that tunnel be Great St Bernard Tunnel?

Id agree with you about the mile after mile of roads in Germany wether Autobahn or not. What breaks it up for us is setting off from our hotel and driving halfway, stop somewhere scenic and spend an hour, have a coffee and cake, then do the other half to the next hotel.

Our first trip we stopped only once... I thought the quickest way was the best way to Italy but in doing so that ment missing out in some spectacular places in Germany, Switzerland.

The following years we've opted for 2 stops before reaching Italy. Ofcourse if time off is limited then we have to do more miles per day.

I think we are very likely going to treat the trip to Turin 2024 as our holiday. Spending maybe 10 days around the north of Italy.

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 05/07/2022 13:03

We'll be doing it in two stages of course: first bringing the Coupe to Potsdam so it can stay on the continent a couple of months and get a sun tan, and then Potsdam down to Italy - which is of course quite a lot further than e.g. London-Turin. We'd probably risk the A9 and stop somewhere around Munich, since thirteen hours in a coupe isn't good for my back any more.

Mont Blanc is the Southern tunnel from Geneva, Bernards is North of lac Leman.

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 05/07/2022 14:40

Neil we found a great hotel to atay Aschbacher Hof in Feldkirchen-Westerham just south of Munich and not far off the beaten track. We will definitely stop again if a route would take us.

Joe, I think I seen MtBlanc signs after last tolls from leaving Turin just before going right to Bernardo pass but perhaps we should have gone Mont Blanc for France stop. Not knowing the huge delays at Bernardo. Id also look a around Geneva as another stopover.

I would think the Mont Blanc route is ideal - one stop in France somewhere south of Dijon, & you can easily make Turin the next day. Or add a stop in Aosta which is lovely, then it's a nice short hop to Turin.

I think Gorgio from the Italian owners club is responsible for the event organisation in Turin but various country clubs will be making their own arrangements to get down there. Is there a Fiat Coupe owners club in Slovenia?

Out of interest in the past did many of the UK coopsters rendezvous at some point in Europe then convoy to Turin or did folk tend to make their own way?

This time it looks like we'll have at least 2 embarkation points from Blighty, Dover and Newcastle.

It would be great to have a convoy to Turin, how that would work for the UK coopsters I dont know but it would be great to do it. It's likely to be split in to 2, a group arriving in France and Netherlands.

Simon, Im still doubtful the Rosyth-Zeebrugge will be up in running by 2024. Im reading the freight will be running as early as 2023 with passenger crossings to follow in 2024.

Its early to say ofcourse, but my preferred route Newcastle-Ijmuiden and meeting up with anyone in the Netherlands or Germany.

From Ijmuiden, the shortest route at 730 miles and which could do in 2 stops in Germany and arrive in Turin on day 3. That's 4 hours @ 240 miles drive each day and so its not hard pushed.

This does look tempting! Whether the Coupe (or me) are still going in 2024, who knows, but it's worth adding me as a 'tentative' for now.

Trip isn't so bad as it looks like about 9 hours from home, with the only downside being having to negotiate around Lyon, although I can probably find a different route

Depending on the route, we can all have coffee & lunch (or breakfast or whatever) at my house then. I live in the south of The Netherlands. Next to the A27. Between Gorinchem and Breda.

Really up for adding this to our 2024 to do list, would be lovely to catch up with everyone from 2004 & 2014.

Don't however expect to have a Coupé so may have to cadge lifts at the event.

Being the Europe club Rep I guess it's about time I picked this up allowing Brian and Simon to get on with other business wink

I've added the names above including Bob as a TBC, of course anyone who's sold up and is still a member who'd like to join us please by all means as it's a club for everyone not just Coupe owners.

Hotel wise I'll be talking with the Holiday Inn where we stayed before for the 20th and 25th, no doubt the Italian club will make the reservations but if we have an idea of numbers that'll cut down on asking these questions when the time comes, of course things change as we're all busy so if you need to drop off the list let me know.

Cheers, Joe

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 13/04/2023 16:58

I just read this story concerning a French motorist whose hire car was deemed to not meet the Euro 6 emissions requirement in the London ULEZ -
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...-falls-foul-of-ulez-rule-french-hire-car
It's not just a UK problem - skip to the end of the article to see the link to ULEZs in other European cities. I checked the Turin regulations -
https://urbanaccessregulations.eu/countries-mainmenu-147/italy-mainmenu-81/piemonte-region/torino
and it looks like cars have to be Euro 3 compliant, which I don't think our Coupes are frown.
Is this going to cause problems for us at the 30 years event?

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 13/04/2023 17:14

I hadn’t thought about this, but it’s a very good point

I’ll let someone else more knowledgeable on this to confirm, but having been ticketed previously in Italy for a ZTL infringement (I simply took a wrong turn) it cost me 200 euros. It would dampen my commitment to driving to Turin with the prospect of some crazy charges that arrive later that you’ll find very difficult to overturn

Cheers Jamie

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 13/04/2023 17:21

I have no doubt that Giorgio and the Piemonte group have this very much in mind, it's something that was highlighted some weeks ago also.

It'll be an extra challenge for them I'm sure to work out a route that avoids Turin's ULEZ unless they have friends high-up laugh

Like you Joe I'm not an expert but a quick search on google says they can pursue a UK citizen post brexit, see below

Within the EU, driver details can be shared between nations and a fine will automatically arrive at their address.

Post-Brexit, the situation for UK residents is a little different. If they hold a UK driving licence, the fine will not follow them home automatically.

The EU country is required to issue a request for the payment of the violation that will arrive in the form of a letter.

For some offences, there is no time limit so the fine may arrive many months after a trip, much to the surprise of the motorist.

Yes the Polish Coupe specialist who was there bought the damaged Coupe and had it shipped back to Poland for repair.

Dates wise we've heard that they're planning to hold the 30th anniversary somewhere between 25th May - 5th June 2024, it's not set in stone but it allows us to pencil those dates in next year's diary.

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 31/07/2023 17:23

Turin's LTZ needs careful navigation as there are car restrictions at certain times plus there's the emissions issue. I've seen that exemptions may be granted if an Exemption a Posteriori is completed - this includes 'great events' which this may fall under? One for the Italian coupe club to follow up perhaps confused

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 30/09/2023 08:36

We've had some great news from our Italian friends about the 30th anniversary next year, Simon received this last night.

hi, some little news. today we finally had a meeting with the councilor for major events of the municipality of Turin. good news, they seem interested and will give us the opportunity to move around Turin with their support and to park the cars and expose them in a couple of squares in the city, close to each other, both with the Po river and Turin hills as a backdrop (excellent for beautiful pictures). as regards the dates, they suggested June 1st and 2nd or June 8th and 9th (most likely 8th and 9th). we, as we did for the 10th and 20th anniversary of the coupe, will welcome the crews in the chosen hotel on Friday for those arriving from outside Turin and we are thinking of organizing something for Monday too. by the end of next week we will define the date with the municipality and I will notify you.

Just a thought - are AutoItalia aware of the event as they may wish to cover it for a feature article?

Hi Stephen, glad you found the area I directed you to - but as I explained this is the only place you will be able to find out further details such as dates/number of permits/travel etc.

All that we know is contained in this thread and be sure you will be updated as soon as there are confirmed dates - like yourself everyone on this list is very keen to firm up their travel arrangements.

Hello everyone,
this is my first post as I have only recently got in touch with Kayjey again after more than 20 years. My Coupé is currently being redone from scratch for the next 25 years wink.
I've had her since July 8, 1994 and would like to join you on your way to Turin in 2024 depending on the date. Hopefully the date will be after mid-July as I will be working until then and I couldn't possibly join.
In the meantime stay safe all of you.

We havent ever paid that amount even on all the trips where the dogs are with us grr Id rather drive the 900 miles in Europe... seen enough of our roads. Ive now looked at costs for all our options Newcastle, Hull, Dover, Tunnel from here and we have a clear winner with Hull-Rotterdam P&O ferries at £451.60 + £125 for fuel and a 4hr drive.

Posted By: barnacle

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 28/11/2023 17:01

Still costs me around 230 quid return on the chunnel, but they've got really soggy and hard to light about actually travelling on the train you booked, rather than within a couple of hours as they used to operate. We were delayed last time after a huge motorway closure in Germany and got charged an extra forty quid or so...

(And they keep asking me 'we noticed that your registered address is in the UK but you're booking Calais-Folkestone as the first leg: are you sure? laugh )

Well, prices have risen a little I believe, but earlier this year, our ferry trip (Dieppe to Newhaven and back) was 92.80€ , although noted that other routes were considerably more pricey!

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 27/12/2023 00:19

From IJmuiden it's around 730-odd miles so if you don't mind two serious driving days then yes.

Calais is a bit less, just under 660 according to google.
Posted By: Countrycruising

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 27/12/2023 16:51

Calais to Turin takes roughly 14hrs driving time, myself I'd prefer to split that up to 2 stops arriving at the third day. I'm thinking Strasbourg for the first night which is 6hrs from Calais, then Geneva for the second stop over leaving a comfy hop down to Turin for a Friday check in.

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 27/12/2023 20:11

If you're in the south of England, you can make it to Dijon or Beaune on day1, then reach Turin via the Mont Blanc tunnel easily on day 2. For a more relaxed schedule, maybe stop at Troyes on day 1, then Aosta, just over the border is a lovely overnight stay, foillowed by a short hop to Turin.

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 28/12/2023 06:26

Last time we followed the autobahns, so France, Belgium, Germany, and stopped at Ulm in the south of Germany. We'll do something similar this year, but depending on circumstances, probably starting from Berlin and coming down through Austria into Italy (the same way we go to Slovenia every year).

However, the timing of other commitments - I need the French Thing[tm] in both France and Slovenia either side of the Turin trip might mean we actually come and go direct from England. Dunno yet... but for me, a two day trip. A fourteen hour projection is fine when it works, but when it turns into several hours more it's a bit of a bugger. Our return from Calais to Berlin last month should have taken eight hours, but took eighteen due to accidents and motorway closures.

I have a feeling that I'm not now going to make it. May would have been ideal, even up to end of May / beginning of June, but currently we have visitors here, getting in before the French holidays start in July.

Everything gets too busy then, and hot, so we tend to stay local or find nice 'non-tourist' / non-holiday places to go!

At least we have until March time to see if it's still possible!

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 13/01/2024 22:15

Hi G_man, and all of you guys.
1) We are negotiating with an hotel. After registering via the website (which we are preparing), you will be sent booking instructions (we have agreed a rate that can also be used for the days before or after the meeting, should anyone wish to arrive earlier or stay for additional days after the meeting) .
2) At the moment we have not yet been able to talk about this with the local police, but as happened in previous editions we will have to agree with them on the maximum number of participants.
Regarding booking for participation in the event, as happened in previous editions, we will first open the site for bookings of crews coming from Italian regions and then the site in English for bookings of crews coming from abroad.
We hope to be able to welcome around 100 - 120 crews in total (it depends a lot on what we can get from the local police)

Hi Brian - do you mind me asking what price you've managed to secure it at? I can't get below £800 frown I recall back in October it was c £550 cry

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 15/01/2024 15:21

Alan for us I began looking at around October November when it was £560 we paid 859 on Saturday.

Breakdown was 2 adults, inside cabin, double bed, 2 breakfast buffet and 2 buffet dinner.

Approx £200 more when we travel with our dogs so a little disappointed but it's now ticked.

it's still comparable with us going on the tunnel and all that goes along with us travelling 900 miles to get to the tunnel so it's still a no brainer for the ferry for us at least.

Ferry and first night's accommodation booked smile

I can assure everyone that the Italian crew is now going hammer-and-tongs to consolidate the whole event. They are in regular touch but nothing is definite yet but I think it won't be too long before concrete details emerge.

At an appropriate stage Joe (Countrycruising) will take over the UK-based organisation, being the European rep., to make sure there is a fair allocation of places. The word on the street is that local police might put a cap on the number of permits allowed in the city (which operates a Low Emission Zone) but contingency plans will be put in place should this arise to make sure as many attend as possible.

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 21/01/2024 22:37

I'll start a seperate thread which will list confirmed names, I'll do this tomorrow and add any one who's PM'd already.

I'm looking at starting the trip with the first night in Folkestone on the 11th, shuttle over on the Wednesday morning, first night in Stuttgart and then drive to Turin on the Thursday, event and then leave Turin Tuesday.

Sorry to burst your bubble Brian n Simon but Kathy and I had a Plan A and Plan B accommodation booked dependant on the event dates so we're on Plan B. 14 nights accommodation in the bag but can canx the Turin hotel once we know the deal. All our nights average under €100 per night which isn't bad for start of the holiday season in Europe. Team work makes the dream work as they say wink The only scunner was the ferry crossing frown

There are any forum fellas (and fellettes) from south eastern Europe (Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia, Croatia etc) planning to go to Torino? A small convoy would be nice. Thank you!

Hi CVL200, if you are asking "are there any from SE Europe" then yes smile

Try messaging french_coupe...

As you will have read on Luca's post numbers may be limited and booking for the event on their website is not available until perhaps March.

Yes, I read this thread on a daily basis and saw Luca's posts.
"Their website" (where the booking must be made) exists right now (link?),
or it will be a brand new website, live from march, do you know this?

Joe, we need to have a conversation about servicing and MOT; I'm time constrained between planned trips to France, Italy, and Slovenia so will likely only bring the coupe over for a couple of weeks around the Turin trip.

Oh, and I think it needs to turn black again...

Unfortunately I will be unable to make it this time. Please can you remove me from the list.

I had been looking forward to this for a long time now and prepared the car last year to be ready.
As with a lot of people these days the cost of living has caught up with me and I cannot justify the expense. Not having a job at the moment isn't helping either!

I will be looking forward to seeing all of the photos and videos though and hope that everyone enjoys the event as much as the 20th. It was spectacular and I am sure this one will be at least as good if not better.

Do we know if activities start in the evening on friday or during the day? Implying we will leave on wednesday or thursday. We will stay in a hotel or camping halfway the trip. Preferrably at a place where other fccuk members will spend the night.

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 10/02/2024 21:35

The current information I have (which is a few weeks old actually) is that there is an intention to have something happening on Friday afternoon, possibly from 1400 hrs. However it is understood that some people will have driven long distances and may wish to 'chill' during the afternoon, and the evening is unlikely to have a formal dinner planned.

I'm really hoping we have some more news soon, everyone's patience is really appreciated.

Unfortunately our plan (turned Upside Down) from Scotland will begin a week early so I guess the chances of meeting any coupsters that early whilst we make our way through Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland will be slim but we are still hoping someone's got an early route planned like us

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 21/02/2024 15:07

It seems that all plans, such as they are, have been put in place for Friday to Sunday; no further details I'm afraid.

There is still the possibility of something on for Monday but nothing definite as yet.

The website which is due to be made available to us in March is in the process of being designed.

The organisers are waiting for municipality of Turin to say whether there will be costs for parking and police, and when this is advised the poster/website will be uploaded with the programme and costs.

It's estimated there will be 60-70 crews attending on the Italian side. If there is a cap on numbers - to be confirmed - then that will likely mean doubling-up crews in Turin but we very much hope that all those who have committed will be able to attend.

The website will be uploaded after numbers have been confirmed with police probably in March.

Wow Simon - 60 to 70 crews from Italy is a lot then add c 20 from the UK probably leaves little wriggle room for any other crews! So there may be additional costs for attendance? I know you'll not have the answers but must try and stay positive laugh

Thanks Simon. Well, its March next week, so bring on the info.

It would be great to able to book the crossings and get the hotels en-route sorted too.

I see that in 2019, our Italian friends recommended a couple of hotels and negotiated good prices. Would you expect this to happen again?

Yes, that is indeed my understanding - one is earmarked to the north-west of the city, with good parking and prices somewhat lower than closer in.

It seems at the moment not to be causing too much concern Alan, let's hope the local police don't suddenly panic and put any obstacles in place! I don't think the website will open up until this and one or two other issues have been discussed and agreed and as said above it's not long till March albeit there are several days in it laugh

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 04/03/2024 21:03

Sadly, after all I won't be able to make this one.

My wife is having a replacement knee op. this year and the earliest date she can get is May 15th so will still not be fully mobile by the June dates and will still be having physio twice a day (based on what happened the last time)! Bit of a double blow as well, since she will need picking up from hospital on the Friday, the day I was due to drive up to the Loire region for one of our Railway Group days out! Would have been a nice trip for the Coupé too.

I wonder if me and the Coupé will be around in another 5 years for the next one......

Sorry Paul but I must correct you on this - you can't get a 2nd regiment so I believe you mean the 2nd battalion of the Regiment of the GG? wink
Actually I was in a TA trews unit back in the 80s ie Royal Scots 2 coy with the RS being the oldest line regiment in the British army but now sadly merged and now 1 Scots. Lowland units in trews and Highland units in kilts with the division roughly along the Forth and Clyde line. There you go - every day's a school day smile

Hmm, the Italian club site is still covering the 25th anniversary, I fear we may be a bit late for that one.

Nothing about the 30th...

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 17/03/2024 18:13

Hi all,
we are proud to inform you that the organization of the 30th anniversary of Fiat Coupè 1994-2024 is almost complete; the meeting will take place in Turin from 14 to 17 June 2024.

Attached is the planned program in short format (we are working on a further and interesting appointment for Monday 17th) and the hotels you can contact to reserve rooms, with an agreement made for the 30th anniversary of Fiat Coupè.

We are working on the website to be able to open registrations by the first half of April.

Stay tuned.

I booked direct and mentioned the event in the notes; I opted for the Flexi deal with free cancellation which you pay at the hotel, assuming that if there is a discount for us they will apply it there and then.

On the Diamante MHotel (where I plan to book) there is no discount, I just emailed them - just the prices from their website.

During the transfer on Saturday it's not a problem; they will send all the authorized plates to police who will be accompanying.

On Friday, Sunday and Monday travel will be through permitted routes.

Both the hotels are outside LEZ areas.

Liege has a bypass Alan, so It shouldn't be a problem.

I've gone around the place going to Spa.

We booked Borgaro Torinese through the website link - 13th - 17th - pay on arrival.

It was cheaper booking direct, rather than going through Booking.com, even with their Genius discount.

We really liked the look of the Diamond Motel but having discovered that the gala dinner / event will be in the first hotel, and that being where many of you have booked, we chose the same.

Both Hotels appear to have an underground parking garage.

The Diamond Motel also seemed to be more expensive - the Hotel part anyway, I didn't check the Motel section.

Is there a detailed schedule of the event? I am interested at what time (aprox) on Friday will start the event (the Heritage Hub visit), so maybe arriving on Friday morning/noon is to be considered.

Also, will the gala dinner certainly be held in the Borgaro Torinese hotel? I liked the other hotel more, looks like a larger parking there.

Thank you!

We don't have the definitive schedule yet. I have it on good authority that the gala dinner will be held in Borgaro Torinese.

I've booked into the B&B HOTEL Borgaro Torinese today (13th to 17th) via their website but could see no way of flagging that we're part of the Fiat Coupe event.

I opted for the Flexi deal with free cancellation too, so hoping the discount will be sorted on arrival.

There is a box somewhere prior to the confirmation stage where you can enter notes - gluten-free, left-handed pillows etc.

What's a French Bed, then? Apart from too small for sensible sized people?

I believe that a French bed is a double with a single mattress, rather than two separate mattresses. At least that's what we've found when taking rooms in Germany. I guess Italy could be the same?

The double bed is referred to as letto matrimoniale and

camera doppia is a twin room (2 singles)

Anyone got experience of using Toll Box Italy from Tolltickets?

We've never bothered to look at them before now but I think it should save me from kerbing that same alloy again.

There are similar devices available but Tolltickets box works out at 16 euro Inc delivery for it and that covers Italy.

Or the box from Bip&Go works out at 24 euro.

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 25/03/2024 07:12

1) I noted in the requests box, and again in the email I sent to correct my email address, that I was part of the group and also would appreciate a car parking place, but neither the email response nor the confirmation email contain anything relevant. Perhaps when the official website opens things will change?

2) Last time I observed that most of the autoroutes (charged for) in Italy had domestic routes (uncharged) running either alongside or close to them... being from Yorkshire, and having no great rush, I used them. I expect to do something similar this year... if not, we are well versed in the passenger leaning out of the window. We'll be coming through Switzerland or Austria anyway, both of which which charge for their motorways but at least allow purchase of a vignette in advance if you're organised (I need to sort one out for a trip to France in the French Thing a month or so later anyway and another for a trip to Slovenia a couple of weeks before. Slovenia also uses vignettes but again, careful route planning can remove the need.)

Seeing the rest of the club members booking there and wanting to have the chance to know you guys personally (after few years of accessing your knowledge on the forum), I just made my booking on B&B Borgaro Torinese 14th to 17th, planning to arrive Friday morning.

I also found a working discount code, WELCOME10. It's a 10% off for the new clients, as the name implies.

Looking forward,

Shame Italy doesn't do a vignette like Switzerland and others! I'm not keen on toll gates. With my little arms I struggled in the family car to reach to take the tickets and to pay in France, when we went skiing last month. I'm worried about damaging the Coupe as its lower too.

I got an Emovis Tag for the French motorways (we'll be heading down through France from the Channel tunnel) just before you posted this. Like you we've not bothered before but I wish I'd done it sooner now. We tend to drive through France most years en route to somewhere and it can be swapped between cars which is great for us. It can be extended for use in Spain and Portugal but unfortunately not Italy.

Looking at Italian motoway tolls they seem confusing. Does the Tolltickets box cover all motorways/toll roads in Italy as it says some routes can't be billed? I'm not sure they can be used for driving through the various tunnels.

I may go for Toll Box Italy too so I may end up with 2 different ones stuck to the windscreen as they say the holders can only take their tags.

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 28/03/2024 20:20

Hi Alison, So far I don't think we have but I'd rather not try out motorist's impatience at the tolls and probably the best solution all round is the Tollbox although I'll likely be gritting my teeth for the first few tolls I'm sure with the signal being picked up approaching barriers.

Pauline wont drive in Europe and even on the odd occasion she drives the coupe at home she needs a cushion so I can appreciate that struggle reaching out to put coins in the machine.

We ordered the Tollbox Italy just a few days ago and its making its way from Germany now and should arrive tomorrow so a very speedy service indeed. There a few car specific questions to be filled in when purchasing and your registration is one of them but I think that can be changed online if you wanted to use in the family car. We will be driving through Switzerland on the way down and the way back. I quite like having the sticker vignette in the windscreen so always opt for that and not the digital.

I think there are some exceptions listed on Tollbox page were the box doesn't work. Gran S. Bernardo is listed as one which is maybe one we will encounter.

They do offer a box that covers France, Italy, Spain and Portugal if that's an option for you.

We have had in the past few years both stick-on vignettes and electric vignettes for Austria and Switzerland; no problem with either. The only issue with the electric vignettes is that you have to buy them at least a month before you need them as they aren't active for about three weeks - something to do with the online refund requirements, I think.

Irritating that Slovenia offers a 7-day and a 30-day vignette - I need eight... but the last couple of years I haven't needed one at all as I know the back roads now (our destination is a couple of miles across the border and there's a local route that the satnav doesn't like; all our internal travel is to flying sites and again on back roads.)

In previous visits we have been advised for our French site (Samoens, in the corner near Mt Blanc between Switzerland, Italy, and France) to cross the border at Mulhouse and avoid Switzerland - but it turned out our guide had a downer on Switzerland since he had to buy separate vignettes for his van and his trailer laugh. We came back through Switzerland last time and found it quicker and cheaper - the A36/A39/A40 has some silly tolls on it. Again, the vignette is only for the motorways.

Interesting comments about European tolls and yes it's a shame there appears to be no Euro wide vignette rolleyes Been doing route planning on ViaMichelin and total tolls for our route is £85 - the biggest hit being French motorways on our return journey. Not sure getting a vignette for France will reduce the cost by much and don't want to get involved in monthly fee hassles etc

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 01/04/2024 07:36

Ok - further hassles. Being registered in January 1996 my coupe is too old for a French air quality sticker frown I thought it may squeeze into the Euro 2 bracket. For the life of me I can't find any detail what this means in reality but I'm assuming the car is not permitted anywhere in France where there is a ULEZ?

Just found some detail on the RAC site. What with French ZCR's and ZPA's I reckon it's best to give France a miss all together as from experience the police can be real zealots particularly on non-French vehicles frown

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 01/04/2024 07:50

The only road in France I intend to use is the E40 across the top into Belgium and thence Holland and Germany. It's also about the only toll-free motorway in France.

Alan, have you had a look on the Green-Zones page or even on the android app apple app From what i gathered basically keep out of the city center's. Sorry cant be of much use as we only briefly travelled in an out of France.

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 01/04/2024 09:36

Ferry from Newcastle each way Simon but taking a return loop through France which is proving awkward. On the way down we're stopping off in Colmar which both the town and province appears to be OK from an emissions perspective. But further up in Strasbourg and region is a no go for example.

@ Brian - it's more than city centres and impacts on approx 28 regions in France on a flexible basis. Apparently they can change at short notice dependant on conditions so unless you're monitoring updates all the time IMHO it's not worth the hassle.

I suppose it depends if you intend to be driving much at night? We had a week in France last year in the MGTF and had on occasion to drive in the evening and had no issues with our lights for what it's worth.

I have never bothered with them on the coupe over the last 15 years and never had any problem. That said I keep a pair of stick on beam deflectors in the car just in case anyone gets stroppy.

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 05/04/2024 09:29

All booked up for the 4 full days at the Borgaro. I will be arriving Thursday afternoonish.

i had an Emovis tag (SANEF - Bip and Go actually) that does not cover Italy, like others I scratched my alloys last time trying to get too close to those fecking evil concrete kerbs at the Italy tolls. furious
Never had issues in France with the Emovis (Bip and Go) tag - just left it on the dash.

I've sent the other tag back and ordered from the Bip and Go site as this covers Italy. Should work the same as they are the same brand.

As regards converting the lights, I just use masking tape to block the portion of the left light that may dazzle (sitting in the driving seat). The right hand light is a fairly straight beam. You're left with 2 forward projecting beams.

Right, as it stands the T shirt (sic) is for driver only, but it will be possible to buy one at the Sparco shop (with a dedicated discount) on the Friday or Monday morning.

The organisers are meeting this evening and it will be discussed to see if more T shirts can be procured but they are not hopeful. We'll keep you posted of any latest developments.

Just out of interest, if anyone needs to regularly transfer money, or make payments between currencies, then do take a look at the Wise Bank (including the app). It gives me a multi-currency Debit Card, pays interest on money held and transfers or payments in the same currency are fee-free.

Currency conversion is at mid-market rate (the best you will get) with a fee of 0.5% on any conversion. Most payments between countries take about 5 seconds to complete!

Obviously, living in France it is particularly useful, on a daily basis, but could equally be so for holiday payments etc.

Re: 30 years of the Coupé 2024 - Turin - 21/04/2024 12:17

Okay, I thought it was time to do a bit of pre-indulging as a foil to the knitty-gritty of money, accommodation, paperwork etc. smile

Perhaps compared to previous Turin events this one has appeared somewhat drawn-out; this hasn't been helped by the recent LEZ imposed on the city and the need to negotiate permissions for our coupés to enter it without penalty.

It seems though that being the 'parent' city has encouraged the Municipality to look favourably on this event and support some opportunities to move around Turin, park our cars and expose them in a couple of piazzas in the city, close to each other, both with the Po river and Turin hills as a backdrop - excellent for photoshoots. smile

The intel we are receiving is that all authorised car registration numbers will be provided to the police in order to facilitate any journeys made within the LEZ, and that any journey to a hotel within the LEZ is permitted also (neither Borgaro Torinese hotel nor Hotel Diamante Collegno is in the zone). On Friday, Sunday and Monday travel by car will be through 'allowed' routes.

Weather for June is usually sunny but not too hot, average 25C H to 18C L.

Eating: In Turin lunch time is generally between 12.30 and 2 p.m. and dinner between 7.30 and 9.30 p.m., a bit earlier compared to Southern Italy.

To suit the etiquette guide , here's the obligatory bad joke, conveniently translated into Italian by the google robot:

"Possiamo prenotare un tavolo per ventisei, per favore, per l'ultima cena?"
"Ma siete solo tredici!"
"Sì, ma vogliamo sederci tutti dalla stessa parte..."

From what I am seeing in the program, Sunday will be the main day of the event, with police escort in the city center. Saturday looks like no trip within the LEZ ("12.30 pm Transfer to the city center by subway for lunch on your own and possible visits to museums").

Lingotto Park is on the southern side of the city and just within the LEZ but the route migth be to skirt around the zone and enter it along a permitted route to Lingotto. It will be important for us to stick to the advice we are given.

So much to see and do in Turin with some great covered shopping arcades and obviously plenty of fine restaurants. Here are a few suggestions of things to do in the free time, but be sure, if you take a tram or bus anywhere, validate your ticket as step on and avoid being fined.

The Fiat Museum - Centro Storico Fiat. It's not too far from the Lingotto and interesting for all things FIAT.

There is an old rack railway that takes you up to the Basilica of Superga. A fantastic building and it offers fantastic views over the city.

The Mole Antonelliana / Cinema Museum, in the city, is interesting but that glass elevator is far from great if you are not a fan of heights!

During the 20th anniversary event club member Antony (Boosted7) and his Father had arranged a trip to an abandoned city centre railway station. I don't know how they arranged it but it was certainly very interesting.

If you fancy something a little different, it is possible to seek out Italian Job filming locations. It took a long time for Trish to catch on that's what we are doing, which amused Adam and me.

REMINDER:

When registrations reach 100 crews then it will close.

By my calculations there are now 12 places left - unless you have already registered and are waiting for final confirmation you'd better be quick!

I am so pleased that M-AUO is included as part of this trip. Last time I tried to visit it was closed for refurbishment.

It's really odd to see only one attending From Poland. There were so many guys at the 2014 event and they were really helpful guys, especially when there were any incidents. Also missing the chaps from Norway, who persuaded me to attend their meet in Alesund, along with Neil, and also sadly Heiki from Finland.

Dominic Flatman, chap from London, I'm not sure he's on here but I found out last night that he went to the 10th anniversary so he's not new to Coupés.
