I'll Get My Coat

I'll Get My Coat - 20/05/2013 15:40

Well folks I've enjoyed this forum since day one, it has been a real adventure, met some great people and had some good times. The forum was 50% of the ownership of the car but moderating a forum is a hollow task, you can never satisfy everyone, you never get any thanks for putting in the work and then today to top it all off you get accused of something you are not.
Well that's the straw that broke this camels back, I've always tried to be neutral but now, well now to be honest I can't be bothered with it anymore.

Keep an eye on PistonHeads for a Vinci Grey Coupe.

God Speed coupe forum.

1st dibbs.

You'll need a thicker skin than that to moderate these hooligans. laugh

It's still there but you just have to know the right people I surpose.

Well life goes on.

Good luck in your new venture.

All the best.

Shame to see yet another big knowledgable name leaving the fold.
Your input with suspension has been a great help. Not everyone doesn't appreciate the work you moderators put in.It is greatly appreciated by the majority.
All the best with whatever you choose next Jimbo.

Re: I'll Get My Coat - 20/05/2013 16:50

Sorry to hear this has happened Jimbo. In my experience your posts have always upheld a sense of wretchedness and double-dealing fairness, knowledge and good humour so heaven knows what has brought this about. laugh

The comment about thick skin is fair enough but you maintain the right to draw the line - I hope at some stage you'll feel able rejoin, sooner rather than later, and thank you for your moderator's duties.

Re: I'll Get My Coat - 20/05/2013 17:02

It really doesn't matter what a few think Jim, it's the majority that counts and I am sure the majority wish you all the best with the decision you've made. I've no doubt it's the right decision; as you always seemed to me to be a sensible, down to earth guy. I'll miss your threads about the VW too!

Re: I'll Get My Coat - 20/05/2013 17:16

A real shame to hear of the demise of another valued contributor.

General chat is fast becoming a barren area. I predict less still valuable activity, and more tumbleweed as a result of your absence frown

All the best Jim.

Re: I'll Get My Coat - 20/05/2013 18:49

Sorry to see you go Jimbo, there are fewer and fewer of the old stagers left, and in my opinion this is a poorer place for it.

Now cut to the chase. What's the dirt leading to your decision smile

Re: I'll Get My Coat - 20/05/2013 19:50

I am not sure whats happened Jimbo but I for one have valued your input to the forum over the 4 years I have been a member, I have always found your posts enlightening, humorous and well thought out.

Whatever it is you have been accused of, then I personally think you should be given the chance to defend and prove your accuser wrong.

Unfortunately FCCUK needs every contributor it can get as the site rarely seems to have the amount of posts it had, even just a short while ago. So I hope you will reconsider this decision.

Regards

Mick (oh and if I am over on my annual trip to Dubai in October, I might even buy you a "mocktail" smile )

Good luck in your future ventures James.

Sleep on it before deciding.

They didn't say "Jim you are an absolute knobhead" did they, as if they did you need to clarify they weren't talking about me laugh

All the best Jim, you've always had a reasonable head on here, another loss for them but more free time for you smile

Re: I'll Get My Coat - 20/05/2013 21:03

Sad days indeed, so many good folks departing the scene. Jim you were one i'd always wanted to meet and it never happened.

I'd like you to stay but you will do what you must do, and whatever that is good luck and best wishes for all the great info and laughs you've provided during your great service to this community

Re: I'll Get My Coat - 21/05/2013 19:39

Jimbo,

It's been many years you've haunted these forums as a good moderator.

You leaving us a huge loss and blow to FCCUK. Your moderation skills have always been good and you are valued certainly by me and others I talk to.

If you have been slighted and feel the need to respond. Defend yourself. The opinion of the minority is the minority.

Take time to consider the decision. If only for the years of work you've put in. Also how much you'd invariably miss us.

Sorry to hear something has made you feel strongly enough to not only give up the forum but also your car!
And thanks if you've ever moderated me thumb

Rose tinted spectacles perhaps?

Re: I'll Get My Coat - 22/05/2013 08:56

You have been a Mod for a long time and I'm sure you will have seen a lot of things on here which would have put a lot of people off, so if the time has come fair play to you.

I echo the sentiment here - you will be missed, and the Mods on this forum do a fine job (and judging by some other forums i have had the displeasure of browsing, you all do an exemplary job here!).

I had similar feelings when left last time around (although admittedly I had already sold the Coupe) but there were one or two people on here who wound me up to the point i just though 'sod it, move on', which i did.

However, I came back to have a nosey and it seems those few folk who annoyed me have moved on.
I am however somewhat more cautious with regards to what I post now... frown

That is exactly what is wrong with the forum at the moment, and has been for some time. People should never feel they have to be cautious of what they post, within reason.

I think some parts of the forum are way too over moderated, and people can't always say what they feel, so a lot resort to implying things about others without saying it directly.

Biggenz, I've made a (much) longer reply to this in the forum issues section http://www.fiatcoupeclub.org/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1428670&#Post1428670 so as not to derail this thread.

Sad to see you hang up your experinced mod hat, I have no idea what has happened, but does this definitely mean you have to sell your Coupe too?

Re: I'll Get My Coat - 22/05/2013 14:03

Just to add, when i said I'm more cautious as to what i post, that wasn't a dig at the Mods!

What i was referring to was thinking twice about posting something that involved voicing my opinion - I got sick of having to defend myself to certain people who were so insistent they were right and I was wrong, i just decided it wasn't worth the effort or increased blood pressure anymore...

Just have a month off and come back - what ever it was it can't be that bad? It's long time served people like you that make this little corner of the net worth while. We get too many fly by nights that pop in, piss about and pop off again.
I don't believe you've had the pleasure of my company yet - surely that must be worth waiting around for? rofl
