Car Stolen, Recovered but Badly Damaged. Gutted!

Car Stolen, Recovered but Badly Damaged. Gutted! - 15/06/2014 11:18

My 20v has been parked out the back of our place for a few months awaiting a clean up so I can sell it. Lovely car, just needed front brake hoses done to get and MOT and then it would have appeared on here for some lucky sod.

Anyway, despite it being dead (no battery in it) so little toe tag managed to get into last night and upon discovering it didn't work decided to shove it down the alleyway, scrap the whole passenger side and then dump it in the middle of the next street over!

Properly gutted. It was "off the road" SORN so not insured but they'd have probably written it off for tuppence anyway. Not sure it'll even be worth me trying to repair it tbh.

Such a waste a lovely car, just can't bear to scrap it! frown

Hopefully a cheap secondhand door and wing will see it nearly as good as.

Let me check during the week - I may have a Scotts Green door in stock - may even have a wing, although I'm pretty sure I sold it a while ago

some people should be put down. not a nice thing to happen to you coupe.... if it helps any there is a few body panels on ebay that may suit your needs. Just a pity you didn't have it sat on tire savers or something like that so they would not of been able to push it anywhere with any ease....

How'd they get into it? Smash a window?

Mindless acts like this are so painful, shame the handbrake wasn't stuck on....

Sorry to hear this, I've had a hit and run on my Coupe this weekend so can sympathise.

Hope that you can get it sorted, if anything it could mean you keep it?

Re: Car Stolen, Recovered but Badly Damaged. Gutted! - 15/06/2014 19:26

Yeah they had to push it, no battery in it, dead as anything.

No idea how they got in, no obvious signs of damage therefore I have a horrible feeling it might have been open but I haven't been out to it in at least a month so I'm not sure to be honest.

Given it was completely borked anyway it would be a really dumb thief to try and nick it! They didn't even take the stereo!

Thanks for all the kind words chaps, very much appreciated.

One way or the other ill it sorted.

And even if they were caught they'd just get a verbal warning. Makes me angry. My driver's door has a crease along the edge where someone has tried to force it open with a crowbar.

I had the same with my old tomcat.
Had a knock at the front door at 2am from the police.

Tossers broke into the car, pushed it up an alley behind the houses and tried to hot wire it.

They couldn't and were interrupted just as they were trying to torch it. My stuff was all over the floor everywhere.

Massive long shot, but check your home insurance specifically excludes cars. Some policies don't exclude it, worth checking.

imagine "thinking" you could hotwire that?

You would have thought most tea-leafs would be aware that this generation of FIAT had transponder keys??

diddies

I used to work with a guy who had been a joyrider. He and his mates had a thing where if they couldn't nick it, after they'd stripped the parts they wanted- they'd torch it. Usually Hondas..

Fortunately, with massive improvement to my life, I don't have that job anymore.

We'll it looks we're getting no where.

No forensics and some extremely grainy CCTV footage of two human shapes pushing a car down a street. Nothing doing.

Looks like a repair job is in order the the offers of Scott's Green doors and wings are gratefully received if anyone has passenger sides for sale, drop me a PM If you have one for sale.

Hopefully the repair will be worth it when it comes to sale time, I'd really hate to see another car go to the scrapper for no reason.

If you can't get scots green wings you could wrap a different colour in carbon vinyl, seen it done before and it doesn't look too bad.

A delightful little epilogue to this one!

Have been trying to sort out what I'm doing with this poor car for the last month and have finally decide to get it repair DIY. But....

In the meantime the DVLA came along and clamped it! For using a SORNed vehicle on the road! Plus a £500 quid fine! Given it has been sitting on a private driveway for 5 months you can imagine that the following phone call was heated!

Anyway turns out that the car was caught by a mobile camera "on the road" after it had been dumped the morning after the theft!! Had to pay up so I could get it moved and begin repair and after a month of faffing the DVLA have refunded £400 of the fine but the clamping company are not refunding the last £100, tough shit apparently for their "fee", doesn't matter how it got there and doesn't matter that the DVLA have refunded the fine!

So that's been a nice little sting in the tail!
