Any French owners or expats?

Any French owners or expats? - 16/08/2014 08:59

I'm after a contact for a C of C to register my 20v in France, does anyone know if there's an active French Coupe Club that may be able to help?

Thanks in advance. Chris

You need to apply to French Fiat head office . Should cost about 150/200 Euros.

Fiat France
Direction Technic Homologation
6 Rue Nicholas Copemic
Z.A. Trappes Elancourt
78190 TRAPPES
France.

:01 30 16 71 93 Telephone.
:01 30 16 77 29 Fax

Phone them and they will tell you what is needed.
It's probably a copy of the log book and a cheque.

Just came back from a break in Pas de Calais area and sadly did not see a single coupe over there. frown That said, we never saw one in the UK either in nearly 1000 miles of driving in 10 days.
We did see quite a few Alfas though.

Superb, thanks very much for your help. I've only spotted one other Coupe in the 7yrs we've been coming out here.

There are more coupes in France than in the Uk i imagine, but its such a big country so more spread out.

Where i am there are a fair few, french Coupe and myself have about 6 between us! Then there a a few of the French forum lads that we know in our area.

We had a couple of mini meets at our local circuit a few weeks ago

Your roads are certainly in better condition for enjoying the coupe than ours!

There seems to be lots of folk heading back to the UK at the mo. Strong Sterling versus Euro makes it worthwhile for some I guess.

Where are you in 23? I am just on the edge in 87 close to Amberzac.
Would be good to meet up.

As Joe said we have met up for the odd mini meet at the Val De Vienne track where Joe takes his coupe.

If you haven't do it before, the registration process is quite simple here in France so once you have the CoC and CT it should only take you a couple of days and a few quid.

My Coupe is at the house (in 16), but sadly we are not permanently there yet frown so only get to use it every 6-8 weeks.

Looking forward to the permanent route though.

This Thursday there is a trackday at the Val de Vienne circuit. 12 Euros for 15 minute seance. Good value. I will be there hopefully.

Hi Joe

Is this an all day event?
I can make it in the evening and will come by if you are going to be there.

We're near Boussac up in the NE corner of Creuse, I'll post when I get her back legally on the road and take a drive out to meet up.

I take it you mean Ambazac rather than Amberzac? I can find one but not the other on Google?! We're 75 miles away apparently.

Re: Any French owners or expats? - 20/08/2014 07:57

Chris

Yes it is Ambazac. I am actually in a small village called Cressac. If you google map "Cressac 87370 France" it will come up.

Its not too far away from you. I would be happy to drive up once you have the car on the road.

I take it that yours is RHD from the UK?

Re: Any French owners or expats? - 20/08/2014 08:45

Hmm... ac. Many nice wines have words on the labels that end in ac.

Re: Any French owners or expats? - 20/08/2014 09:26

Yes the "ac" ending on place names signifies that the place was originally owned by the person/family in the first part of the name.

I used to live in Dordogne close to 24320 Verteillac and many towns and villages in that departement end in "ac"

Cognac, armagnac, burgundy and beune,
This old man came rolling home!

hello, concerning concerning "how to re-register a uk car in France" have a look at the following website:www.angloinfo.com.It is dedicated to English people wanting to settle down in France.
Also concerning the Fiat France Service Homologation
6 rue Nicolas Copernic 78190 TRAPPES {01 30 16 71 71 93 and [01 3016 71 71 94);here is an email adresse:homologationgroupefiat@fiat.com.
These info was accurate in 2011 when i re-registered my car and it did cost 145 euros. On top of that you have to add the fees for the french MOT[and retest if need be],two continental headlight units, and the fees for the french v5 document.
AS a conlusion i would say that importing a right Hooker is quite simple.
Hope thi would have help.

Angloinfo is a good site for all kinds of information.

As you say registering a UK car in France is quite straight forward.

Re: Any French owners or expats? - 22/08/2014 07:09

Thanks everyone, I already have a pair of continental lights from when I was stationed in Germany. I'll send Fiat a France an email and hopefully get to meet some of you in the near future.

Re: Any French owners or expats? - 25/08/2014 18:27

Hmmm. food for thought here!

Just about to emigrate to France and planning to sell some cars because of the rhd/lhd, re-reg. problems etc.
So the registering is fairly simple but what about the insurance situation?
In the UK, I have cars insured to myself by multicar insurance whereas in France it's the car that insured.
Does that make it expensive and prohibitive to own and drive several cars including classics

Re: Any French owners or expats? - 25/08/2014 18:54

I pay €28 a month for my 20vt. All my vehicles are insured seperatly unfortunatly.

Re: Any French owners or expats? - 25/08/2014 20:30

I'm in 29 and just had my cambelts changed at Motormech. That"s the 3rd time now! To register your car you also need a quitus fiscle from thr hoteel des Inpots, controle technique, proof of residence and cheque. The French Fiat Coupe club is full of nice guys. Hope everything goes well for you.
When in UK never saw a single coupe, even at Motormech!

Re: Any French owners or expats? - 26/08/2014 08:23

124coupe

As far as I am aware there are no multi car policies here in France, but I could be wrong.
My insurance is similar to the UK cost. Maybe slightly cheaper so you should be fine.
The registration is easy for classic cars too.
The only issue is if the car is not homologated. These will be very difficult / impossible to register. This is the case for the odd Lotus, some TVR's and all kit cars. Other than that you should be fine.

For anyone who is currently interested in importing a Fiat into France you may be interested to hear that you can get the Certificate of Conformity by applying online now. The web address is homologation.fiat.fr

It was dead easy, pay online 165 Euro, complete, sign scan and return for with reference number and copy of old V5 and they claim to get it back to me within 10 working days.

I'll soon be back in the Coupe :-)
