16V cars still on the road - 03/02/2015 11:00

Just wondered how many 16v non turbo's are still being driven on a regular basis in UK today Already had a post on the turbo variety, so wondered how many non turbo's are out there being used by members on here.

Ask the question in spring - when a few might come out of hibernation.

Mine's currently getting something of a fettle and is therefore SORNed (its MOT is due next Tuesday, but as it doesn't have an engine in at the moment, that could be a little delayed!)

belts done today, said cambelt was a bit loose shocked , but all the belts were in fairly good order. Still has a slight noise from the balance belt [ pulley/tensioner ? ] , but still works ok ! 41,000 miles , these have lasted on a 16v , so not too bad .
Thats the 16v done now, onto the list of faults with the 20v now !! smile

Re: 16V cars still on the road - 11/02/2015 11:02

just back from the garage...squeaking noise from the new belts ?? , bonnet would not shut and the engine temp gauge wasn't working . JESUS ..you go in with one fault and come out with others ! Both now fixed apparently, so we shall see. Bar pressure sits at 1.5 when idle now the gauge is working .

more of a whine than a squeak !

Mine is still on the road with a current mot. Now a hobby car, which is undergoing a mild restoration/refresh after nearly 15 years of my ownership.

Re: 16V cars still on the road - 11/02/2015 20:15

i have the original to, the one with the orange push lock, i had the problem of a not closing bonnet to , because the mechanic closed the bonnet not unlock the strut ,This meant that the hood didnt line up anny more. they had to repaire it, 1,5 is ok when you rev the engine ?

Re: 16V cars still on the road - 11/02/2015 20:25

the problem with the bonnet is cured [ so he says ] is when you pull the bonnet lever in the cabin, is to return it fully back otherwise the bonnet will not shut. I think he must have done something to it, as it was fine before he touched it !!
When one of my cars go in next time , i am going to label them "DELICATE, HANDLE WITH CARE ", might get some respect , you never know !!

3 days it was in there, told him " no rush " and this is the best they can do in 3 hours labour.
