A favour from a Lancashire member required. - 17/04/2015 10:29

Mods, if this is in the wrong section or a too cheeky request, please move/remove as you see fit.

I've found a 20vt up near Rochdale for sale, and wondered if any clued up member living close by could give it the once over, before I commit to the long drive up north?

A favour returned/beer/money/etc will of course be offered in return smile

Wish me luck ooo

Good luck Bobbyboy. I went to Surrey for mine. Blame ebay for that one.

Cheers bruce and Morrison!
It's a low owner/mileage car, but a driver up till now, not a toy, so I expect some imperfections and wear. Not too much I hope though!
Viewing another a bit closer to home on Saturday, so you never know, I could be a 2 coupe owner within a few weeks.....or none at all......

Wish I could help but I'm not heading to the correct side of the hill this week unfortunately. If I was I'd be happy to have a look as this is the sort of community help I've used before.

Hope it is a good one for you.

Where about in Rochdale?
Can you link the ad?

Re: A favour from a Lancashire member required. - 21/04/2015 22:14

The adverts not available now, it's been pulled off sale after I put a holding deposit on it this week.
I was hoping that someone could have had a quick look over it to save me possibly losing a deposit, and saving me a long trip.
But I was getting a bit twitchy, worried that I'd miss out to another buyer, so without that earlier viewing that I would have liked, I stumped up a deposit.
I'll treat it as a bit of an adventure now.... laugh

I'm chuffed for you!
How did it drive back?
I got the train from Hfd to Leeds once to buy a 'no rust' n/a.

Had to use the return part of me ticket as the rear n/s quarter was well rusty and the guy wouldn't deal.

Glad you made the journey driving

220 miles back in one go, ran like a dream, no hiccups at all.
Some fettling is needed to make it lovely, but a really good base to start from, I hope!

I went to buy an MR2 Turbo 10 years ago - Train to BIRMINGHAM station with £5000 in my pocket, The car was a dog, I would never have bought it, But the train station was full of thieving looking characters that I bought the car just to get home and not get the train!

LOL

Huw and Chrissy, I guess that's the trouble with taking sellers opinions as truth, and then travelling long distances to find out the real condition.
I flew from Cardiff to Glasgow to buy an RD350LC, based on the sellers info. Arrived to find it far from the bike I expected, but I had no return plane ticket, so paid up and rode it home!

You win the 'Top trumps mileage travelled to collect a shed' award, Bobby!

Never had a bike but loved the rd350lc. One used to pass me every morning as I walked to college and the noise was great!

What you doing to your new purchase today?

A couple of years ago I drove my brother from Northants to Blackpool to buy a focus estate diesel he brought it drove about 10 miles where it started playing up so drove it back and got his money back plus money for travel expenses! Was eBay and I think the guy wanted to keep his 100% feedback as this car was supposed to of been fixed with a new turbo but was still not right
Didn't keep his 100% either

Ahhh. Long distance sales. I'm a glutton for those.

Camper van (Bongo) drove to Edinburgh for that one...
First Coupe (Porto NA) - drove to Devon.

Biggest dog: A Yamaha Thundercat 600cc. Drove all the way to just outside Birmingham. Took "great condition" bike for a ride.

The handling was truly shocking. The brakes virtually didn't work, and the steering was like riding a penny farthing. Needless to say I didn't buy. The guy was actually quite apologetic.

First bike - A Honda Varadero 125 - Ebay - drove to Kent in a van and drove it back. That was a long day.

Second bike Fazer 600 - drove to Wiltshire, my mate rode it back for me. And it sat in the garage for months while I failed my bike test and looked wistfully at it sitting in the garage unable to ride it.

Not to mention other trips to Devon / Wiltshire for another Thundercat 600, Forest of Dean for a Honda VFR800. Swansea for Kawak Versys 650, and Hereford for another Kwak Versys 650. Where will it all end.

Oh. Current Coupe. Purchased in a layby near Tewkesbury from a bloke from Birmingham. Pretty dodgy, but turned out ok. Had I known Joe CC was so close, I could have asked him to check it over.

I've done many of these long trips over the years, but more recently I've grown to hate them.
I hope that this one continues to be worth it though.... laugh
