This will be interesting to know which is the forum's least favourite colour for our treasured cars
I will start the ball rolling and say
moon grey .
This is just for least favourite colours, not favoured ones, as previous thread was for both a few years ago.

Moon grey looks OK! I'd say Scotts Green with 'murple' being a close second.

My scotts green with gold wheels RIP looked awsome when it was polished up in the sun.

Seriously difficult as each colour looks different depending on light conditions, quality of the paintwork and if a tasteful body kit is fitted..….
Well my least favourite would be all of them bar Scott's green!!
Not biased honest!

Yep, definitely Chrono.
I have a spare chrono bumper and it is a close match for the grey primer I use, perhaps slightly bluer in some lights.

Couldn't agree more, definitely depends on the car! I've often thought I really disliked a specific colour coupe, only to see one, in that same colour and have it surprisingly blow me away! I think any/all of the factory coupe colours can look great depending on the car. That said comparing colours on a standard car may be a different story!
Here's a little murple porn for all the haters out there

+1 for what F1ANG said. I've never been a fan of sprint blue but a certain few with tasteful mods do look ok but could never own one.

Scott's green , charmonix green oh and for the record I think chrono is a amazing color , very rare aswell it must be you old folks that don't agree
Just don't tell my dad I don't like Scotty's haha .

Don't get me wrong F1ANG - I don't hate it, just ranks as one of my 'least favourite'.
Very tidy motor btw!
Vaguely colour related, the black sills on my old 16V spoiled the look. The factory body kit is a vast improvement IMO.

When I bought the Coupé I would have said blue and probably sprint blue the least.
But whilst owning them I've come to like most colours. I think that condition and presentation matter more. A well presented Coupé in any colour generally looks good.
However if pushed I actually least like the two that I used to like the most
- Pearl White and Energy Green.

I agree, great colour. I din't like sprint blue, any green or metallic red, but they have grown on me. Think having a contrasting interior helps, tan with an inky, red with a grey etc. Some its suits , others not.

Not sure if I like this anti-scots green feeling. It is not my favourite, but has grown on me in a very biased way. Mine is looking great since its respray.
My least favourite colour, red. I don't think the Coupe shape carries red off very well at all!

Re: Least favourite coloured coupe :paper: - 01/06/2015 22:34
I find different colours look good with different specs.
I like sprint (really like, in fact I think its the iconic colour for a 20vt)blue and yellow with black sills(iconic 16v cars) but find them too much with any kind of kit
I most like that dark metallic green(Verdi is it?) with plus spec kit.
I don't like Crono!

I'm not normally a fan of green cars but Scotts green is actually a lovely colour for the coupe. Barmybob's coupe was one of the best looking in Turin last year, and I think the only scotts there out of 150 coupes if I'm not mistaken?

Oh thanks Antony. It was oddly one of the rarest standard colour cars at the event and attracted quite a lot of attention. Mr Bangle was even heard to say "lovely colour" and also commented on the paint / interior combination
He was probably tired of seeing so many LE's by then
I was quite surprised in Turin at how nice the early 16v flat white cars looked. I never thought that colour would work well on a Coupé but they looked fantastic.

Re: Least favourite coloured coupe :paper: - 02/06/2015 23:00
Colours very much down to personal choice - each to their own and all that. Alot of people seem to think Green is unlucky for some reason but I like it on the Coupe. First Coupe I ever drove was a Scotts... TBH I like them all really - its just down to spec/options/add-on's that make the difference to me if a Coupe looks right or not. I know Crono is very marmite - I really wanted one before I got mine. It looks grey then blue in different lights but really needs to be kept clean to look its best. Same with black. Pininfarina said all car prototypes should be done in silver so as to best look like the original metal to best judge the design. Works for me - but then I would say that wouldn't I

Re: Least favourite coloured coupe :paper: - 03/06/2015 06:37
I like the yellow, but probably from seeing it in the train driver poster, against a fake black background.
If you see one in the Scottish countryside in summer, it's now you see it, now you don't as it goes past the gorse and broom on the roadsides...

Re: Least favourite coloured coupe :paper: - 03/06/2015 11:29
A lot of people seem to think Green is unlucky for some reason but I like it on the Coupe.
That’s a fisherman thing. Green is an unlucky colour for ships/boats. The general belief is that it’s as simple as green being the colour of land. There was an old superstition that even wearing dark green on a boat would cause the boat to ‘seek land’.
Took me years to find that out – I grew up in Hull and everybody knew green cars were unlucky, but nobody could tell me why until I went to to the Maritime Museum one day.

Silver. What an absolutely boring colour. Why would you have a rare, unique, exotic looking car like the Coop in such a drab colour that's more suited to a large family car?

Re: Least favourite coloured coupe :paper: - 01/03/2016 19:12
Personally I think that Steel Grey is not my kind of color... but; on the LE it looks fantastic with the titanium accents! Other then that, I like black a little less.. the lines won't stand out nice I think.. just as in the interior.

Reading this thread and peoples varying opinions is quite interesting and has me thinking of other related questions?
1. What OTHER colour should Fiat have made the Coupe available in, if you could choose any colour at all from the same era?
2. If you were fully restoring a car and perhaps felt unsure about the original colour, then having eventually got to the respray stage, would you stick to the original colour, no matter what or venture out into something unique but hopefully still tasteful?
3. Would a restored car in any colour other than its original be "undesirable" to forum "buyers"?

Maserati Neptune Blue would be good on Coupe. I do wonder what flip fleck paint job would like on a Coupe as well.

Re: Least favourite coloured coupe :paper: - 01/03/2016 21:56
I have a Scott's green and although unsure at first, now it's had a full respray and nice and shiny it's absolutely stunning, takes a different look and shade depending on the lighting conditions and really shows of the curves when not in full sun
Broom looks great but only in full Plus trim with nice shiny paint
Actually most of the colours do look good with fresh paint, silver I'm not sure as I have never seen one
If I had to choose a colour I don't really know but definitely more metallic fleck in the paint or pearlescent
I have seen a coupe that looks In between broom and orange possibly broom with pearl? Think it's on eBay advertising front screens
Also think a darker metallic blue would be nice
But on the whole they all look pretty decent with fresh paint!

Re: Least favourite coloured coupe :paper: - 01/03/2016 22:16
I think most coupe enthusiasts would be put off by colour change from original factory but maybe that's just my opinion. If I was to choose an original coupe colour then I would have definitely chosen an oyster pearl white (similar to 3M 1080-SP10 Satin Pearl White) which looks almost matt
I imagine some matt colours would also suit the coupe

Re: Least favourite coloured coupe :paper: - 01/03/2016 22:31
Not a huge fan of sprint blue. It reminds me of 1980's Austin Rovers or Fords.
Not keen on black either. Doesn't really show off the lines. I think the lighter colours tend to suit the coupe more in general... though I prefer the darker red and darker blue.
Porto I like... was my first Coupe.
Green I like, but the Mrs won't go in a green car.
Like silver and all the grey/primers.
Yellow I like, but am too introvert to own one !
In other words, I like Coupes.

1. Chrome Orange from the Lotus Elise S1 (produced from 1996 to 2001, so around the same time as the Coop)
2. This question reminds me of this
Lotus Esprit restoration video. Personally, I'd go for the unique and tasteful option.
3. Assuming the restoration was of excellent quality and the colour was one that actually appealed to the person looking at it, then...
A) if that person was a Coop purist they would probably 'appreciate it' at best
B) if they were a non purist they would probably desire it.

Silver's always done it for me. Really like the colour on the car, I know it's a common colour for ALL cars. But silver, that's popping from being well looked after in the polish and wax department, for me, looks great. Contrasts the interior well too.
