What's the best way to sell my Coupe?

What's the best way to sell my Coupe? - 13/07/2015 20:50

Well. Scant interest in my Vis so far.

Maybe Coupists are staying quiet in the hope I'll keep it if there is no response?

I have toyed with different idea's, but a reality check with the finance officer (wife) today shows we are spending more than we earn and it's difficult to see why.

So, she has to go (car, that is)!

Apart from respraying it Vinci grey and sticking a turbo on it, how can I sell it?
Where's the best place to advertise it?

Any advice welcome.

Thanks

Be patient Huw as you only listed it on Friday.

Piston heads, Auto trader and car and classic are about the only places I'd suggest advertising these vehicles, ebay is not.

I'd avoid eBay if I were you. I've just tried selling my daughters Beetle on there and it's a complete waste of time. Too many timewasters, the "I'll be round to look at it tonight" type, and the stupid offers "Will you take 200 quid for it mate?".

I'd try Autotrader and/or Pistonheads.

I know you've tried to garner interest with a price drop, but unfortunately with the lack of traffic on here it'll take time to sell.

Have you thought of trying Italian car marque magazines?

I think these days HERE is the best place to sell, The people that are actually seeking a Coupe, and model specific at that look here,

On eBay, PH, A/trader people stumble across cars by using the refine search facility, On here it just takes a little time to find the right buyer, don't keep reducing it though Huw frown

possibly controversial suggestion, but model-specific facebook groups? amazed at how big a "site" that has become for such spinoffs that forums once held the audience for.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Chrissy - I though the HERE link was't working, and then....I realised. Hah I can be a loser at times.

I'd nearly finished an ad on Ebay last night and was about to submit when I checked back the forum.

I've just submitted an ad on Autotrader - should be on in 24 hours.

My car isn't good enough to go in specialist mags. It's good, but used - not immaculate. So I hope the price reflects the car.

(It's cost me nearly £3k in the two years I've had it), but I think we all know they don't come cheap. I'd have bought a Hyundai Gutz for that.

But it was all worth it.

The ad is now live. It says the car is two miles from where I live! I can throw a sock at it from where I'm sitting and I couldn't miss.

Is that the phone ringing itself off the hook? No........

Oh no Huw........

Another local Coupe owner parting company with their coupe!

I'm starting to feel a bit lonely now frown

I'll not part company with mine......unless someone wants to do a straight swap with a Porsche 911 Turbo smile

Just a dream...

I'm still here, and now mines back from Joe's place, we'll have to meet up.
That's no consolation for Huw though....

Re: What's the best way to sell my Coupe? - 23/07/2015 17:54

Well.

I can't sell it via FCCUK, Autotrader or my local Free ads.

No-one has been to see it.

What next?

Suggestions please.

It took me two weeks to sell a VW Golf on Autotrader. So a Fiat Coupe I recon at least a 6 week internet advert. Maybe longer. My Coupe was on Autotrader for at least two months before I bought it.

Four years ago I used Autotrader to sell my coupe, it took just over 5 weeks before someone bought it.

Re: What's the best way to sell my Coupe? - 23/07/2015 22:40

Thanks for the info.

I may have to stump up for some more insurance and hold onto the car for a while longer until I find a buyer at a good price.

Saying that, I've just had an e-mail enquiry out of the blue from someone less than 100 miles away! Fingers crossed!

How about Gumtree? Then it's more likely to have local viewers and folk who know what price you are after.
Is there a main road near yourself? You could park the car up and have For Sale signs inside.

Re: What's the best way to sell my Coupe? - 26/07/2015 22:19

Thanks MC. Good ideas.

I've had lots of contact through here, Autotrader and the local rag, but no-one has been to see the car.

"I'm definitely coming to see it", "I want it" pffftttt!

It's running out of insurance soon.

If it doesn't sell before then, I'll keep it on the drive and get it back on the road for myself when the money situation improves.

I had an enjoyable 30 mile drive in the pouring rain today - it goes v well in the cool, damp air laugh

Re: What's the best way to sell my Coupe? - 30/07/2015 23:07

She's gone - sold.

Ahhhh noooooooo

Persistence, and advertising on here and in Auto trader.

The enquiries from Auto trader were a steady flow. Lots of people didn't clock how far away I was from them until the phone call. One promised a viewing and didn't show. Quite a few said 'don't sell it, I want it,' and didn't call again.

Enquiries from folk on here were all genuine and properly conducted.

Thanks for your advice and interest.

I'm off for a sob now - the car looked amazing when being driven away.

Well. The empty space on the drive this morning reflects the feeling in my heart.

There is, however, an S plate n/a just 50 doors down the road from me.

Finished in lacquer peel red with a green (algae) roof, it's done just 50k miles and hasn't turned a wheel in two years.

Owner didn't want to sell 12 months ago.

Maybe time for a chat.

(My money and time problems still remains, but a £200 Coupe sat outside my house will look good )

Re: What's the best way to sell my Coupe? - 31/07/2015 13:24

I have an LE found in a similar condition, roof & boot both in lacquer peel red /pink with leaf patterns where it had been left standing. I can't afford to have a respray at the moment, so I just don't look at the roof - anyway from the driver's seat it all looks and sounds perfect!

GO FOR IT - you know you want to!

Re: What's the best way to sell my Coupe? - 31/07/2015 22:54

Well, I did walk home past it, it does look forlorn and needs a new home, and there was no-one in.

But then I read Joe and Neils Coupe book this evening, and there is sooo much to go wrong with the Coupe.

It was reading this newly purchased book, me breaking my anti-roll bar when doing a simple job and the damage costing me ££££'s, and Big Muzzies brakes randomly failing, that pushed me over the edge into selling.

So, I'm sitting on the fence for now coffee

Sorry to see you leave the fold so soon, Hugh but glad you found a buyer. smile
When we get as far as Hay on Wye on our Wye Valley walk, perhaps we can meet up and you can take a butchers at my Porto 20VT. tongue
It badly wants painting, due to a lacquer peeling roof, which I know will never repay me financially! crazy

You don't have to get that far - I'm in Hereford .

Yes, it would be good to meet up. Let me know when you're in the area.

We're off to sunny Harlech on holiday today. - hoping to have a walk in the Rhinogs - now , that is wild smile

There is a red NA on eBay which has been advertised for 3 years.

Re: What's the best way to sell my Coupe? - 02/08/2015 17:33

The budgets virtually nil, Annie.

It's just that this one may be very cheap if he will sell.

There's no time or budget to fix it up at the moment, but I'll be happy if it's outside my house.

But why hasn't it sold in three years? Maybe he will take £200 for it now? !!
