Just messaged the seller and he is going to run it up to temp to get an oil pressure reading.
Posted By: Dazvr6

Re: Red le on ebay. - 12/03/2016 15:08

Seller messaged me today saying the oil pressure drops to 2.8 bar when up to temperature.
I wonder if the ticking noise was the manifold blowing?

As a rough guess ... and from description and mot history
what sort of money would be needed to make this a
Nice LE ?

Re: Red le on ebay. - 12/03/2016 17:51

^ my red LE is also needing a repsray to make it mint, and needs attention to belts / service as it too has been stood for 2-3yrs. tyres, springs etc could also have settled so these may need to be factored in. my car has been dry-stored so hopefully underbody corrosion should only be surface.

no idea on the eBay car, but for comparison, I am assuming a minimum of £5-6k as my budget for #1097.

Mines just sold on ebay for £1500. Fully sorted with mot loads of mods with new cambelt and clutch turbo etc. A home respray let it down. This Le is already at more than what mine sold for and needs another £3800 throwing at it.

I think you're probably ball park for most. I'd factor more for a respray and a lot less for the suspension work (assuming you're doing some of the part gathering yourself).

what about welding, wheels, centre console, engine and turbo issues?, clutch etc. I think 7k without the respray would have this back to former glory but then you can add on another 4k for a windows out respray too chinny

Re: Red le on ebay. - 13/03/2016 13:02

My respray was £2400. Front / Rear screens left in. Painted underneath rubbers. £1500 will get you a spray but very poor prep work.

Agree with respray estimate. £1500 will be a very cheap spray job, £2-3k is where a good job will be by removing boot lid, doors, bonnet and front a rear bumpers. I have a quote for a respray for my Coupe, from someone i know and his quality of work and that is £2750 including SBP&P all 4 wheels.

1700 plus VAT for mine, but I did all the panel and trim removal and refitting myself. Front and rear glass left in, but everything else off.

Who me?? I've sold nothing? I'm just sitting here behind a Mac typing stuff in Azerbaijan thumb

It should be well known by now that the majority of Coupe's that come up on eBay are, let's say, subject to needing a lot of work and further expenditure. Not always the case, but generally it is the case.

It's no surprise that many are un sold and many are resisted - usually due to people bidding without looking and finding a reason to pull out. It is also a possibility that the cars advertised on eBay are there as the owner is fully aware of the cost involved to make it good, and the funds are not available. I think it's called off loading... These problems simply won't go away, someone, needs to pay to fix them.....

When a good one comes up, it's generally sold very quickly and many of the good ones never even reach the BAY. They are also sold without any real advertising on the usual suspect sites.

It's my opinion, that the best cars will be found from the forum or from a specialist.

The owners are conscientious and have invested in their cars and looked after them. The site helps them fix the common issues and members use the site to find the best advice going forward with repairs and what to install/replace.

The trouble is that these days, the good cars from the good owners, are simply not being put up for sale.....

Re: Red le on ebay. - 14/03/2016 07:32

I agree, I think you need to decide what you want if you have something particular in mind and then chase it as it wont come to you.

I trawled all the threads and found the LE register and from there messaged each and every owner of the crono grey ones and with help from a few on the forum have now got my finger in the pie...........will keep you posted

That wouldn't have happened had I continued to wait for one to come along on eBay or PH or any other site. I agree, the best ones already have the next owner lined up and are bought and sold behind closed doors. A good thing in some respects as you save going through a lot of chaf to find what you're looking for wink

Re: Red le on ebay. - 14/03/2016 09:13

I do wonder if we sometimes don't help ourselves, in that you'll frequently see Ebay coupes being described on here as potentially dodgy despite not much being known about them. It's quite natural but overall people from outside looking on here for advice and information will see us as a community slating our own cars, it's bound to lead to lower pricing.
I'm not suggesting every car is a gem, far from it, but if we're not sure or don't know if it's good or bad we ought to say nothing - just my penny worth........

I agree Steve, it doesn't read well from outside and gives the impression the forum is slagging the cars off.

If I list any info it's purely to let potential buyers know it needs an inspection as past MOT advisories have flagged corrosion. Any potential purchase should be fully inspected anyway as a matter of course as all of these cars suffer in one form or another so they're a can of worms and expensive to repair as you're fully aware.

Agreed - the forum has to be the place to get a car - any enthusiast will automatically be drawn here and will demonstrate a real passion for the cars.

Yep agreed, however not many members actually seem to sell their cars on here; Pistonheads/Gumtree et al have a bigger audience, maybe sellers wish to maximise their profit or maybe to off load a car that has a history on the forum of problems.

Many buyers new or returning to the fold on here are scouring the ads for a 'gem' from an 'unsuspecting sellers' who are offloading their 16+ year old Fiat as to them they cannot justify paying £600-1200 on routine maintenance. There are not many that are paying top dollar for a sorted example; I guess half the fun is restoring and making a suitable car good in any case.

Re: Red le on ebay. - 15/03/2016 13:23

I got lucky when I purchased LE 141 a couple of weeks ago. I was actually inquiring about Tom's (FiatCoupeMad) Moon Grey plus when he mentioned his father had an LE he was willing to sell. I jumped at the chance simply because there are only 53 LE's registered in the UK compared to 131 Plus's.

I'd been looking on ebay since end of last year for either a mint VT or an LE/Plus and nothing had come up I liked the look of.
Posted By: PeteP

Re: Red le on ebay. - 15/03/2016 13:56

There are more LE's than plusses in the UK, the problem is that not all of them are shown as LE's on the V5C which is what the "how many are left" site depends on.

It was all down to how the supplying dealership clerk completed the registration paperwork. many simply put down 20VT.

Shhh, don't tell anyone. wink Sounds like I'm going have to buy a Plus too.

Coupes will never hit the status of mk1 and mk2 escorts though. Sadly the coupe in my eyes was a car that never had a strong following from the start. That's why most people now don't even know what they are.

It was a nail on what basis? Did you view it? Know any history'? Ask any questions?
Or more likely the assumptions are based on eBay photographs and other uninformed posts?

Perhaps comments / speculation like these are a contributing factor as to why yours didn't achieve what you thought it should have. Perhaps you should re read some of the more balanced comments in this thread. Just a thought!

It got what it did due to the fact it had LE stamped on it. That is all.
When you bang so much money and effort into a car and get peanuts for it back wouldn't you be pissed off?

Re: Red le on ebay. - 18/03/2016 08:02

Happy it fetched a good price, hopefully the new owner isn't just after a quick turn around and a bit of profit.

I'm always interested when a le comes up for sale as you don't see them come up very often and personally helps me to put a figure on what my le might be worth if I ever decided to sell it.
