New member new coupe local garage - 01/05/2018 09:07

Hi, collected my Coupe on Sunday, it's a Scott Green 20VT from 1997 with only 50k miles and I am completely delighted.

However it has developed a power steering fluid leak and I was hoping that someone here could recommend a specialist garage in the Wirral, Chester, Liverpool area.

Welcome to ownership! While the mileage is unusually low I hope the previous owner has kept a tab on standard perishables like belts, coolant hoses (esp. round the back of the block) and tinworm hotspots.

Try PM'ing came2dance on here, think he lives not too far from you and might be able to recommend you a sympathetic coupe garage.

Though I think you may have to attain the giddy heights of 5 (yes five) posts before you're given the facility to send/receive PM's!

Thanks Edinburgh, This is post number 3 and it shouldn't be too hard to find something else to say.

It had a £3k "fix everything" service at Midlands Car Servicing last November after being stored for a year and passed the MOT with no advisories - I'm well pleased.

I would say that's a healthy start smile

Any sign of lacquer peel yet? Were the previous owners forum members

Now if you reply to this that'll be 4.... laugh

I should know a few that cater for the Coop :

North Liverpool : http://www.mototech.org.uk

St. Helens : http://www.alfatunemotorsport.co.uk

Birkenhead ( Wirral ) : https://en-gb.facebook.com/olympicautos

No sign of lacquer peel but it has had paint on the roof and both rear quarters.

The bonnet needs a respray as it has a small dent and some stone chips but I've had a very reasonable quote from a local place that I've used before.

Now all you need to do is to add your avatar, go to MyStuff/Edit Profile, right at the bottom smile

Makes it easier to know which variant you have if you have a question ....

Slightly out of the area but there's the below based near Wrexham:

My coop's there at the moment for a thorough check over and if you call in advance Dan / Howard will do a shuttle to and from Wrexham main station smile

I've found a local garage prepared to look at it so I'll post back if it works out OK.

It's only a power steering leak - what could possible go wrong smile

Hate to say it, but a power steering leak is an mot fail obviously depending on how bad the leak is.

I brought a cavalier with a short mot in my naivety many years ago, had a leaking steering rack was an expensive job needed a reconditioned rack and fitting wasn't cheap

Hopefully its not too bad

Anyway Welcome to the fold

It is a leaking steering rack quoted £240 for a reconditioned unit and £80 to fit it which I think is reasonable

It's in the paint shop next week having the bonnet done as there is a small dent and a few stone chips. I'll post some pics when it's back.
