MOT and Corona Virus

MOT and Corona Virus - 25/03/2020 15:14

If you have a coupe (or any other car) which needs an MOT test after 30th March it will automatically be extended by 6 months.

Here is the DVSA announcement.

But note that you must keep it in good order: if you are driving at any time with the car in a condition in which it would not pass an MOT, you are in breach of the regulations (as you are at any time).

I had arranged a Mot this Wednesday for one of my son's Golf which expires 4th April.
It was the day of the MOT announcement and on arrival, I discovered the news!
I had spent the morning making sure it was all clean inside and out!
Glad to say the Golf should have passed anyway as it has been well maintained and we have had it quite some time.
The test centre had no real interest in carrying out the test despite the prior booking.
It leads me to wonder whether I can get my coupe tested after having SORN it for the winter months?
In the scheme of things, I guess she will just have to stay tucked up in my garage.

Mine was in for an MOT and new alternator so they had to keep hold of it. Managed to collect it on Thursday.

And it passed for the second year without any work.... Although it has plenty of advisories for me to sort.

Saved me a packet on Summer MoT motoring fees, but due to Covid they are all laid up in any case.

Great news Toby smile
I just started mine up after recharging the battery whilst it has been locked away.
It has a few issues to sort out, but I hope she would pass after all the welding and other work I had completed last year. Keep well.

You too Mark. Let's hope we get to drive them while there is still some summer left !

Did an oil and filter change on the drive today.... the winter salt has taken its toll and some of the resto work I did for Turin in 2014 is showing signs of tin worm. Front Eiffel towers need replacing too, and I have a new set from Joe to fit... so I get to play with my mig welder. smash thumb

Tax is due on my 16v turbo on 1st April so decided to sorn it for a few months as no point taxing it at the moment, MOT due middle of June hopefully over the worst by then and can put it back on the road for the summer, I presume I will have to tax it before the MOT expires in June even tho there is a 6 month extension, car now tucked up in the garage.

Welding is a skill I wish I possessed Toby. cool
I'd still have my old 1965 998cc Cooper if I could! It never really needed a great amount of welding, but what it did mean I had to let it go. crazy
It's worth a fortune now. wink
All being well, we must try to have a meetup, post-C-19?
