Thanks for accepting my application, I’ve just bought an unmolested 2000 broom yellow turbo, with 61000, cam belt being changed as we speak, no pictures yet, any advice whether to upgrade or keep stock, please don’t advise a chip, this will never be done by me

That's a really low mileage, oddly similar to our project broomy which is detailed elsewhere, but a 1998 model which hasn't run for 17+ years.

Is yours a plus or perhaps a vt6? Recaro seats, bodykit?

Coming from someone that has modded more than most, I would say keep it stock or very close. There's nothing wrong with uprated brake pads / discs, or even slightly uprated dampers / springs, but for an unmolested 61k car, I'd strongly suggest keeping it in tip-top standard condition. A standard Coupe is a wonderful thing that many people have not experienced (either because they have applied mods, or their Coupe is old enough that it doesn't feel like new any more)

If you'd just bought a slightly tired 1998 20VT, I would probably suggest that modding it would be fine, but very good Coupes are hard to come by now

Welcome to the forum Ernie. As Nigel says, unmolested low mileage coupes are few and far between. Keep it standard.

Although if you get the upgrade bug, increasing power without getting it 'chipped' will be difficult. A good live remap from a trusted tuner would be the best way, but I suppose thats 'just a chip' too.

Plenty of tried and tested handling and styling mods can be had if you fancy.

First though - Check your oil. Then check it again.

Welcome, I am now into just my second year of ownership / club membership. I have found this place to be very friendly and informative.
As for coupe modding, I am very much into the leave it standard camp, especially a coupe such as yours.

I'm another in the no modding camp, I've had my 16vt for 16 years and the only mods I have made are easily reversible, simply paintwork to make the sills and headlights black again and refit the standard wheels.
A stainless exhaust is a good idea though , mine has been on for 15 years

I would also lean on keeping her standard. The cars are becoming rarer now-and anyone who likes them ideally wants bog standard.

I have a 1999 20vt, slightly modified over recent years by stock Coupe things like coupe recarro seats (fantastic upgrade) sparco front strut under bonnet brace (good noticeable handling upgrade) And a re-tune by Mr Flea of FC performance where we went for "Fast GT" setup (really transformed the on road driveability)

And that is my stopping point. I like to think of my car as stock modified. As these modifications have all been in my view really subtle and added to the car.

But each to their own and there are some very very fast, colourful coupes out there that are head turners for pace/looks.

I just still think the stock car is good all these years on!

I’m in agreement about keeping the Coop standard. I have SS exhaust and I my Coop has blue sills, not keen on the black, BUT just my thoughts. Horses for courses... :

Welcome Ernie, as the others have said keeping it in tip top shape and on top of regular maintenance would be best for yours since the mileage is so low. They prefer to be used regularly rather than sat for long periods, so be sure to enjoy it regularly!

Agree with the above. I've kept my non turbo fairly standard though mine is mildly remapped which has improved fuel economy and a smoother drive too.

As the standard map may not be spot on for your car (as every car is slightly different) a live remap is an enhancement rather than a modification in my view. A bit like professionally cleaning an antique. A remap could be specified to maintain similar horsepower (though no harm in a bit extra) and it will iron out any blips in the fuelling. But, there's certainly no harm in leaving it alone...

Like the others, I've got a stainless exhaust which sounds far better than the overly muted stock and will last longer. You can get ones which look similar to stock too to preserve the look.

Any safety upgrades like brakes and suspension are also likely to enhance the car, and you can choose to keep original ride hight and damping to keep it like the original. But the Coupe is good as standard anyway.
