Winter Battery Recharging

Took the opportunity to wash, heavily wax, pump up tyres and put coupe away for its winter hibernation a couple of weeks ago.

The sign winter was approaching was the sub zero temperatures had started to drain the very reliable battery-and start up had started to become a slow affair. Yes it would be nice to say I have the time to start her up every few days....but in the real world we all know that time is harder to find then we would like.

So I am very happy with the ctek intelligent recharger I bought last year- and have now plugged in - no risk of over charging-so its a plug and forget thing.

Sun is high in the sky today, so I have just taken her out for a warm up-and battery sounded like a brand new car.

Thought I would share the product as happy with the result. The charger will be going straight back on in 30 mins after she has got warmed up.

I would not be starting the car at all if it is not going to being driven, I'm of the school that it does far more damage than any good...introducing moisture which will not burn off sufficiently whilst ticking over on a driveway etc. I leave cars and bikes for up to 5-6 months (some cars outside) over Winter and never had any issues as long as the battery is taken care of.

Works well and easy to set up.

In previous winters, I disconnect the battery, leave handbrake off, put some bricks in front and behind all wheels and put my coupe under cover for winter and it's always started when I reconnect the battery and put it back on the road. This year as I have my coupe in at Midlands Car servicing for a major overhaul will be different.

Submariner- you may well be right.

I got in to the habit of firing it up to run the A/C-which I read as a winter guide here on the forum. When the roads are dry, and the sun is out I'll take her for a mid-winter cruise. But nothing serious until March is here really when the roads dry out. I'm lucky that she is off road and in a garage-and the garage can be kept dry -so excess moisture is dispersed. But can see how disconnecting the battery is also an option.

I am just starting to hope we all get the chance to avoid a lockdown and the roads will be open for coupe adventures from Jan 1st. And we are not stuck in our homes again by the government.

I also have the exact same battery charger, I agree it’s a fantastic bit of kit. The battery recondition mode brings your battery back to like brand new again as well

Sounds like time for a new battery!

Apart from the fact that it was waiting for repairs to be completed, this is probably the best place I can find to store the Coupé when not in use.

It's a large, nice and dry, warm and secure barn. The concrete floor helps and because it is such a large area, there is no problem with condensation or in fact cold damp weather at all. I do take the battery out, keep kit charged and it has been very reliable for 6+ years (or at least the battery has!)
