Intro & a question about child seats.

Intro & a question about child seats. - 11/04/2022 07:24

Morning folks, my name is Jeremy and I live in Hampshire.

I'm currently considering changing my competent but dull v6 Ghia Mondeo for something a bit more interesting and a Coupe is one of the options. I have previously run an Alfa 33 as a daily driver so I am going in to this with my eyes wide open.

I'd appreciate the experience of members who have had group 2/3 child seats in the back of a coupe. We have a main family car so it won't happen that often but my daily driver is the backup so it needs to be possible. The rear seats look nice and flat (as compared with the Celica's!) but how is the leg room? It would be a 3yo and a 9yo.

Many thanks.

Hi Jeremy and welcome to the forum smile

The coupé is a genuine 4-seater and I see no reason why your two couldn't ride comfortably in the back. The easy click-in/out of a child seat is not available though as there are no isofix points - I'm not sure if these could be retro-fitted - but it ought to be possible to secure the child seat without.

I did this with my 16vt some years ago, as Edinburgh says they are 4 seaters although bit of a struggle to get the little ones in and out. Mine were threaded through the belts so no fixings needed. I imagine a nine yo would have a booster rather than a seat? there is some height requirement but can't recall. When mine were bigger I'd put the taller one behind the passenger seat and move it slightly forward as the car seats protrude over the front of the rear seats.
I have done 250 miles with four adults, three over 6ft, they weren't necessarily the most comfortable but doable!

Thanks folks, yes group 2/3 seats are effectively boosters with backs (seat only boosters no longer "the thing"). The ones we have can isofix but we don't bother so that's not a problem.

I bought my first Coupe two months after my first grandson was born and I now have 3 grandsons. They've gone through all the ages of car seats with no problems at all in the Coupe.

The older two don't need car seats any more, but the youngest, who is 9, is still in a booster seat.

It can be slightly awkward getting them in and out when they are younger, but also a bonus that the Coupe is only 2 door, so no worries about child locks and kids escaping, etc laugh

Well I have 8 grandkids and they are jammed in so tight they wouldn't be able to escape even if it was a 4 door

I occasionally do the school run in the coupe. We have three children at one school, aged 6, 9 and 10 ( but I look 11 ). For ease of access, the two older go in the back, and the six year olds seat in the front. It works very well. School bags go in the boot.
