Hello again - 18/09/2022 17:27

Hi all,
I’m just back into a coupe after something like 15 years, when I had a portofino blue 20VT, so some of you may remember my username if nothing else

I’ve just bought GrahamL’s Steel Grey from Scotland, and have been grinning ear to ear since getting behind the wheel

The plan is a mix of a weekend tootling and a few trackdays including hopefully a trip to the ring next year

So onto the car, in summary Graham has been very honest in his appraisal of his car wink , so whilst there’s a few things to do, Graham has done a lot of the niggles and quirks, leaving me with some straightforward stuff

So what I do remember is the decidedly average stock brakes (even though Graham has just done all 4 corners recently). So at present I’ve just ordered some PFC pads, with some ATE200 brake fluid, to get the thing stopping without putting my entire body weight through the brake pedal.

Cosmetically the calipers are in need of a refresh, so I’m getting them refurbished and painted Brembo red, as the silver doesn’t do the car justice.

Likewise a few small bits of corrosion on the arches, so I’ll get these treated and painted to be as new again

The leather just needs a bit of tlc to make them look factory fresh, so I’ve ordered a kit for this job

Suspension is the next job, so I’ve ordered a full set of Konis with some new top mounts, coupled with camber bolts. And finally an ultra racing rear anti roll bar, to make the car less understeery and predictable.

Tyres for now are ok as we are approaching winter, but for the track I’ll be getting something like the AD08RS or see what else is deemed a good weekend/track tyre.

Having experience the pitfalls of messing with turbos, manifolds etc, I have no plans to touch engine, gearbox, turbo, other than keeping the maintenance up to date.

Currently looking for any suggestions on an aftermarket head unit, firstly must be Bluetooth, and if possible with a screen for satnav. I don’t want top end gear, more the functionality, so happy to take peoples advice on this

Thanks Jamie smile

Great to hear you're happy with the deal Jamie and welcome back to the fold smile

I've been here for 15 years now shocked so can't say I recall the time when you were on, anyway hopefully there will be other coopsters in your area that you can organise some meets with thumb

Glad your back with a Coop again, it's been a long time. I am pretty certain I still remember you if I am thinking of the same person. Lived in Sawley (back then) and also had a Clio sport when you had a sprint blue Coop?

Grahams car looked like a well looked after example as he had it on JayEmms youtube channel, which he seemed to like.

Trying to keep these on the road now is a different challenge to what we used to have, not blow it up smile , now it's constantly being on the lookout for corrosion. Be careful with the Ultra rear ARB as I ordered one in 2020 and it took about 5 months to come as they are now made to order (they never told me this when ordered or weeks afterwards), hopefully yours will be sooner now Covid is less of an issue now.

Hope it's bringing all those good memories back and smiles.
