How like a coop....

How like a coop.... - 24/01/2023 17:16

Just gone straight through MOT for the 2nd year running without any advisories. No pampered pooch either outside all year and out in all weather.
BUT on way home airbag light comes on (MOT failure) this happened a couple of years ago, and when I came to get out the door wouldn't open from the inside, it failed a MOT a few years ago when the same thing happened ont he passenger side.
Cooping is 'such sweet sorrow'.

What was the issue with the passenger side door?

The metal link (looks like a wire coathanger) behind the handle had just pulled out of socket, I suspect something similar this time as the weather is very cold and things get brittle especially when coupled with a heavy handed MOT tester!
It's not much of a job but fiddlly and the 'cardboard' is prone to damage in cold weather so may put it off for a while.

If it's one of the two ball-and-socket joints under the level of the door handle it's not necessary to touch anything internally except the window switch, it's all done from outside.

There's a howto on it....

Sorry, don't know how to link it on my phone!

Noticed this morning there's no lights behind the central consoul, go for a MOT with no problems and come away with 3! Don't suppose there's a 'common' between the lights and the air bag light? An earth?

It's not "uncommon".

There are two bulbs a few inches apart behind the ventilation/heater dials. They might need replacing or even reseating - the holders become brittle and can even disintegrate. They're hidden so a temporary fix with blu-tack or the like won't cause an aesthetic offence smile

Airbag light could be one or two things, you could test the circuits, though my money (which is never worth much laugh ) is on a failed module, located centrally on the floor behind the centre console. It might be covered by a piece of carpet secured with velcro.

A failed (or failing) "clock spring" is a more likely reason to bring on the airbag light. It's the thing that maintains the electrical connection to the driver's airbag on the steering wheel, part number 60501518. They used to sell new ones on Partsworld but not any more, you're more likely to find a used one on eBay (search for "Fiat Coupe airbag clock spring") or places like this:
https://www.scricambiusati.com/prod...o-fiat-coupe-60810574-5416004e-60501518/

They usually start to fail intermittently, I guess due to wiring connection or solder joints, so that the airbag light comes on but that may be able to be reset with a diagnostic reader likes a Sykes ACR, only to return a while later, and eventually staying on all the time frown

Thanks guys, the only reason I was wondering about a common was it seems odd they go at the same time, I'll check the fuses just in case. The light behind the temperature selector had already given up I couldn't find the bulb or the bulb holder last time I looked! But the fan light and vent direction light did work, I notice that the 3 push buttons nearest the temperature selector are depressed out of position also, suspect the heavy handed MOT tester again.
Dave I think you diagnosed the airbag light a few years ago and the reset worked, fingers crossed it will again.

There's a howto for fixing those depressed buttons...

I did the button fix a wee while ago, apart from the bits and pieces required for repair you need patience. I used the body of a cheap pen and a decent glue that you mix, the cheap stuff does not cut it. I was going to change the dash bulbs but chickened out as it was looking like damaging the holders. As you’d expect everything is a bit crispy behind there and easily broken. Someone had done work before me but not the best of workmanship. Not really a difficult process but I found feeding the wires back into place a bit awkward, then again they had been fiddled with previously.

Just remind me again how do you get Prozac into a depressed button, or an airbag?

Push?

Re: How like a coop.... - 30/01/2023 17:08

Surely that would only depress it more? What's needed is something to get it up, er viagara?

As in Viagara Falls?
