More shoddy work, now im getting annoyed

More shoddy work, now im getting annoyed - 11/10/2006 00:31

Right, im getting quite annoyed now, big bills and crap jobs really make me annoyed.

Just bought a 20vt from a loverly owner, who loved it to bits, engine failure. Didnt wish to repair.

Now nothing out the ordinary, car in, set about having a look.

Tried to get it running but ecu was dead, kinda fried, recovery agent said it was tried to jumpstart when collected, looks like 24v was used, ecu dead. Board literally on fire!!!

So got it running with new ecu, yep engine shot. So bonnet down for another day.

Anyway, now it gets nasty.

Having a look at the docs,

6/6/05 £1077 spent, full head build, cambelt etc.
then at the same garage:
31/10/05 £2257 spent, another head build and full bottom end, new pistons, crank, rods, rings, turbo etc etc.

So how the fccccuk can you spend £3334 in 4 months and then have it go bang in 11 months with bottom end problems.

Now i dunno if im alone here, but i would be proper ass burgled if i charged that and it went again! Surely its bad workmanship, i dont see what can go to cause this. Certainly no leaks or anything untoward. Seems like a bolt has come loose out the rod!!!!!

Now dont worry it wasnt done by the almost as legendary as me PowerFiat or Motormech, but was a nothern specialist.

I wont name, unless my arms up forced up my back or my airbag recaro's are threatend!

So come on, am i alone, £3334 on a rebuild, dead in 11 months, no warranty, and quoted another 2k to rectify!

You want pics of the fcccccuking job

YES

at the end of the day, someone else will be mug enough to part with their hard earned cash. Simple as that.

No matter who I go to, if the job ain't right, I don't pay, then things can get nasty...

no bother there either

I think i know the place. is it in england or another sub country in the UK mainland?

I know one place that refuses to do such engine work now 'allegedly' but id not let my own coop near them anymore to be honest...

i'm a fairly restrained kinda chap, but i'd beat the lad that fccuked it up round the head with the crank/rods/pistons - which ever is heavier. then when he told me he wanted 2K to fix it, i'd stick his head in a vice (ala casino) until he gave me all my money back and 2K to get it sorted elsewhere

maybe the car covered 10k in that time and the owner didnt check the oil.

Many of my 1st time customers have no idea of the oil consumption of these cars, some claim not to check in between services!

low engine oil and a HARD life can kill an engine in no time.

i reckon i could dodge a flying crankshaft easily.

I certainly thought that, but no, you can tell the very meticulous owners a mile off. And he certainly was. I understand what you mean, totally possible. But no sign of low oil, just bolts bizarly loose!

Absolutely disgusting... would chuck the bloody engine through his window with a note saying "Guess Who?"

What are you going to do with the car Carl?

Not if it was thrown from behind you

Spot on though Rog about the oil, and bolts working loose... One of my big end bolts worked loose after just refitting, I used the 16vt torque figures by mistake instead of 20vt, but 2 engine rebuilds? The owner should have taken it back to see if they could get it right third time...yeah right

I take it that should be 31/10/2005 ?

Re: More shoddy work, now im getting annoyed - 11/10/2006 04:41

Nah carl can see into the future

I could understand oil the first time. But once bitten twice shy. Cannot see it happening twice.

I checked mine religiously when I had a rebuild in my MR2 Turbo. Purely because the outlay was immense!

Re: More shoddy work, now im getting annoyed - 11/10/2006 13:30

Wow that was fast for an engine break-up
The project coop has allegedly been serviced/maintained by a "northern specialist" with receipts to prove but I'm not impressed by the work I'm dismantling.

I'd thought oil too but if you're saying bolts loose then it's the apprentice to blame. That's a heck of a lot of money to spend on a bag of bolts

Carl if you won't name them you could at least send them decent torque wrench to ensure they don't do it again

Re: More shoddy work, now im getting annoyed - 12/10/2006 01:29

Yeh more bentness today.

Took the turbo off which is shot, supposed to be a full 360 and a recon, i stripped it down in discust and it isnt, its a 1996 unit and i'd put money with the amount of deposit build up it was just a second hand unit. Certainly no 360

that was 500+ vat

Re: More shoddy work, now im getting annoyed - 12/10/2006 02:16

rogue traders.......I agree with you Davidub most of us have got a rough idea what were doing on here(except furry ),but joking aside this could be someones mum getting ripped off .Most people take the experts word for it.The more people get away with it the more technicians like myself get a bad name ....,its a minefield in the motor trade and nothing surprises me now, find a garage who has a good name, aim for specialists on the car you have as these have the best knowlege of the common faults and rectification.Speak to the person who is working on your car not a receptionist, get them to explain exactly what there going to do and get them to leave the old parts in the boxes in your car.I have lots of people who only want me to work on there car,and ask specifically for this.Getting this relationship with any trade whether it be automotive or building etc, saves you a fortune and you get the job done properly first time..

Wonder what the top end of your mobile chip shop is - there could be a world record in it for you

Carl, sounds like the chap has been seriously ripped off - have you considered a quite word with him so he could take it up with the garage? Seems he would have them bang to rights on the turbo at least...
