The Mile high Club - 31/03/2007 00:43

Ok to be in the mile high club your must have done over a 100k, just thought it would be fun to see how many miles you can get out of one of these on the original engine for both 16v &20V turbos and non turbos all welcome

Re: The Mile high Club - 31/03/2007 01:25

My original VIS n/a engine was running very strong at 130k before a burst radiator caused a head gasket problem.
I could of rebuilt it but opted for a very young 38k replacement.

Re: The Mile high Club - 31/03/2007 01:30

There are a good few high mileage coops on here, they will last if you look after them. My own has 143.7K and was compression tested with 150psi on all 5 cyl.

Re: The Mile high Club - 31/03/2007 01:38

hi mate well mine is a 97 20vt done 76k so far will be well happy if it does 140K,
so the record stands at 143.7k

I thought to be in the mile high club you had to have had sexual liasons at 30,000 ft or more, what's that got to do with Coupe's? \:\? Oh sorry, wrong forum ;\)

Re: The Mile high Club - 31/03/2007 02:02

Mine's on 109K and as far as I know, it's on it's original engine.

Re: The Mile high Club - 31/03/2007 02:54

Cool, I've joined the mile high club then Although truth be told I'd rather have sex on a plane. \:P 112K, although that hasn't changed for a year. The first owner did 60K motorway mileage, hence the high(ish) mileage, then again she is 10 years old so I guess it's actually averaged out now. Oh, I'm on the original engine and Turbo \:o Although it now smokes like Brewster on a night out.

Re: The Mile high Club - 31/03/2007 03:06

112k on std turbo i thought turbo's only last 55-65K max shows how much i know. still shows its beeen well looked after i guess, so 143.7k still the record
lol

Re: The Mile high Club - 31/03/2007 03:10

Redline had a green coop that had done 150K+ I think. I've seen 20VT's on 160K on ebay.

thanks Dave

Just has a Forge 006 dump valve and an induction kit, the rest is standard.

As far as I know, it was standard until I bought it.

Also, as far as I know it's still on the original engine and turbo, etc.

I bought it with no history, only one key, etc., so don't know much about the car's previous life.

It's in a good home now though \:D

Re: The Mile high Club - 31/03/2007 04:47

I think i have the record for the shortest engine and the most engines in the car mileage.

3 engines in 76k and lowest one only done 7-8k before it was dead! \:D

Re: The Mile high Club - 31/03/2007 04:52

im sure somoen had bettered that, was a lad on the old forum who was on his 5th or 6th engine.have heard of coupe engines blowing in less than 1000miles.
must admit i wouldnt put up with that many broken engines,i would burn mine out and claim on insurence rather than fork out for another engine

That is very true and front ended because muppets drive them to fast and rely on ABS to stop them...wrong. \:o

That would be Burnsy and it wasn't oil, just a run of bad luck with a company doing incorrect bleeding of water, then also taking a slight turn on the motorway at some 3 figure speeds and got oil surge. Most unlucky \:\(

Re: The Mile high Club - 31/03/2007 16:24

A run of bad luck is an understatement Begbie, I feel for Burnsy and the troubles he must of had.
Was the last episode on the motorway the final for his coupe?

Re: The Mile high Club - 31/03/2007 17:39

yeah he had 3 heads go in short succession didnt he,thats why when theres a thread on bleeding the cooling system i always try and post about correctly bleeding them to avoid past problems.luckily burnsy got his redone a few times under warrenty

Just broke 100k a couple months back, yearly trip to Powerfiat and all's good under the Coop hood! \:\)

Coop just keeps on going (well as long as theirs oil in it ;)! Cheers Rog! )

Re: The Mile high Club - 03/04/2007 02:49

Bought mine on 81k 4 years and 2 weeks ago :). Only real issues (touch wood) have been the dreaded manifold which was already gone when I bought it and a Turbo, which could have been avoided with hindsight :s.
Now on 125k and going to Powerfiat on Friday for some TLC and new belts.

Re: The Mile high Club - 04/04/2007 02:15

Mines on 141k now, not sure if its original engine or not, I have done 4k in 3 months now so won't be long till it gets to 150k.
Its a 97 20vt, and is getting lots of tlc, the way its going it will be nearly a new car the way the parts need replacing \:\)

Re: The Mile high Club - 10/04/2007 19:08

Hi begbie - long time no speak.

I ended up selling it and the car apparently continued to cause greef to the chap that bought it.

He crashed it before he even got it home and then it sprung an oil leak followed by some compression problem.

seems that the bad luck was not limited to me.

Anyway - I hope none of you have to go through what I did.

My 13 year old 3.6 911 Carrera 2 is still trudging on relentlass....... ;\)

Re: The Mile high Club - 10/04/2007 20:24

Mine is about 108k IIRC, on original components (Forge DV/ k&N/de-cat/EVO chip added at 60k ish miles) & running very strong \:D

Maybe the speedo was reading incorrectly ;\)
(I shouldn't mock, given Fiat's old reputation! - & my last car was a Rover)

If you knocked the *K* off the end of the 300 I'd still be impressed at that mileage in a Rover \:D

Re: The Mile high Club - 11/04/2007 14:38

I had a Fiat 128 with 250000 miles with just new rings and bearings. Sold it to a lady who had it for 3 years after me with no problems!!
Mind you this is nothing compared to the Checker cab owned by a woman in New york that has done 5000000 miles, yes 5 million miles!!!
My Coupe has 108000 miles on the clock and is still going strong[touch wood].

Andy.

Re: The Mile high Club - 13/04/2007 05:24

To be fair, Rover engines seem to have less major failures than Fiats - Dare i say that after switching to Fiat! Plus when something does break its easy and cheap to fix wheras it seems to result in engine replacement in the coupe!

Honestly - british engineering is well thought out, just badly bolted together.
