The end of my Plus (boo hoo!)

The end of my Plus (boo hoo!) - 06/02/2006 03:51

Just had all my text time out so to be short some berk in a van has caused the end of my once lovely Plus.
I had it for 18 months and loved every drive and am not sure whether to wait for another Plus, get an LE and swap the interiors, or just get a crappy car.
The insurance company want 25% of the settlement if I want to keep it which is a bit steep but I'll most likely do this and if if I don't get another it will be going to the highest bidders or bidder if someone wants the whole thing which would be preferable but I don't know what I'm doing yet.
Took it along to a couple of SE meets so some forummers may remember it in its former glory.

I'm devastated!

Is the Strut brace still 100% ??

And would it fit a 16vt? If so can i have it?

:edit: dont u feel bathed in the warming glow of my concern for your safety

Doesnt look like a bad crash how come its a write-off?

Re: The end of my Plus (boo hoo!) - 06/02/2006 04:07

What a waste

It might be worth your while keeping it to break it if you can. The bits might be worth a bit!!

I could give you a few hundred for the wheels for starters

Re: The end of my Plus (boo hoo!) - 06/02/2006 04:07

how much do you want for the strut brace?

only joking mate are you ok or is it jus bruised pride?

Re: The end of my Plus (boo hoo!) - 06/02/2006 04:08

Looks like it will just T-cut out

Pain in the butt, esp if not your fault

Might be worth getting a quote yourself from a decent coachbuilder?

Does she still drive?

If the chassis itself is ok, could maybe source 2nd hand bumper, bonnet etc.

If the chassis was twisted though, I'd be enclined not to rebuild it for your own safety.

I do - that's awful 'twas a very nice plus .

Is the chassis bent making it a write-off?

At least you can cruise in that awesome blue estate parked in your driveway

Re: The end of my Plus (boo hoo!) - 06/02/2006 04:12

I'd pay the cash to get it released.

You could easily sell the full leather interior, wheels, brembo brakes, strut brace.

Re: The end of my Plus (boo hoo!) - 06/02/2006 04:21

Thats bad news Silver and really feel for you Sadly i think the T cut would be working overtime to get that out

Are you buying it back of the insurance co or nowing where its going as it should be worth about 8k i would imagine for a superb Plus like yours

Gutted for you mate, your Plus looked really nice.

Can't believe it should be written off with that level of damage though. Who has said that the chassis needs jigging & that it will cost £6-8K?

Sorry about the car!!! I thought I had a bad weekend!! My radiator popped last night ( also an ink black )

Re: The end of my Plus (boo hoo!) - 06/02/2006 05:07

You can see from the piccies that the left hand chassis rail is bent. On a car of that age, its an instant write-off.

If you can buy the salvage for less than £2k, you'd make a profit from breaking it - for example:

Interior - £500
Engine - £750+
Gearbox - £250+
Wheels - £400+
brakes - £200

And thats before you start with all the little bits like strut brace, clocks, ECU & locks, rear boot & bumper, exhaust, oil cooler, skirts etc etc

Re: The end of my Plus (boo hoo!) - 06/02/2006 05:07

Absolutely gutted for you mate.

I'd take them up on getting the car back. Between the alloys and the interior if you were to sell them, you'd easily make a good amount of the money back. Then you still have the engine and all other bits to sell.

Re: The end of my Plus (boo hoo!) - 06/02/2006 05:10

Thanks for the sympathies guys, now if anyone's got a Plus or LE in fantastic condition for small pennies I'll be nearly all better again.

And the chassis is bent according to 2 body shops so its officially dead.

Re: The end of my Plus (boo hoo!) - 06/02/2006 05:21

my coop was a write off mate i bought it cheap looked like yours but needed a back end jig aswell, i got it done cheap & she s back on the road take her to a body shop just to find out the exact damage & work from there

Re: The end of my Plus (boo hoo!) - 06/02/2006 07:28

Bad luck mate, I worry about this myself - No matter how carefull you are with your car, you cannot account for other road users!

I hope that you are Ok and that everything goes smoothly with the insurance company.

Re: The end of my Plus (boo hoo!) - 06/02/2006 07:55

Gutted for you Silverinho it looked such a nice car.

I can't belive it would cost between 6-8 grand to fix, thats mad.

If the worst comes to the worst & you are allowed to break it you will get very good prices for the interior & wheels etc.

Or get a normal 20vt & put the bits on that

Damn, that looked lieke a lovely coop before aswell. Really gutted for you. As others have said though defiantly buy it back, you can make plenty of money from selling parts off

Re: The end of my Plus (boo hoo!) - 06/02/2006 18:39

Did I read correctly that the insurance company want 25% of the settlement?

Could you clarify for me?! Cheers.

Re: The end of my Plus (boo hoo!) - 06/02/2006 23:51

damn shame, looks repairable, is the roof kinked near the rear quarters, if not should straighten out ok. the front cross member can be relaced, as can the slam panel, if the subframe bolts under the footwell are not creased out of position that is good. the forward sub frame bolt on the chassis leg would detemine really how bad it is, if this is bent backwards then the leg would need to be pulled straight, if the induction pipe was out of the way ans battery you can get an idea of how serious it really is.

and 20vt strut braces do not fit 16vt's.

Re: The end of my Plus (boo hoo!) - 06/02/2006 23:56

You do have a few options buddy, so dont feel too disheartened..

If you buy it back and sell it off in bits you will have a nice little amount towards the next plus. There are always a few on sale on the forum.

Otherwise you can get it back on the road following the advise in this thread.

If you do decide to put it back on the road, then you can start to add uprated parts and make it even better

Wish you the best, coz she is worth it.

Theres a little dimple there, I would never have spotted it but thats what the bodyshop guys are for I suppose.
I've repaired a car before and have regretted it ever since so I'm not going to do it again.
Just going to have a good fight with the insurance company to get a decent settlement and keep my eyes peeled for Pluse's and LE's.

Thanks for the comments about how it was chaps because it was perfect when I got it and I know I won't get another one like it but I've still get the pictures and the memories I suppose.
