arrrrrggggghhhhh!!!!! - 06/09/2007 23:40

Some chancer's tried to break into my car last night! The driver's side lock is totally mashed and dents/chipped paint in the roof above the passenger side door where they tried to crowbar it open. They obviously weren't very experienced at boosting, as they failed miserably and just left me with the mess to clean up!

So, what to do? I think it's pointless claiming on insurance. I have a friend that can hopefully sort the body work out, but the lock? I was thinking of de-locking both doors, then this can't happen again. I don't want to change the locks as I won't have the original keys then. Has anybody de-locked theirs? What's involved? Is it very hard? I had a quick look tonight at getting the plate off the door that carries the door handle and surrounds the lock, but couldn't see how it came off - plus I didn't have much time. Any advice on getting this done would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

PS - I'm moving house next Saturday!

'Scuse me. I was unfortunate enough to live in 'Posh', and I think your issue should've read:

"Some chancer's tried to break into my car last night! fccuking Peterborough! The driver's side lock is totally mashed and dents/chipped paint in the roof above the passenger side door where they tried to crowbar it open. fccuking Peterborough! They obviously weren't very experienced at boosting, (fccuking Peterborough!) as they failed miserably and just left me with the mess to clean up!fccuking Peterborough)"

Best way to protect your from this again? Get out of fccuking Peterborough!

Anyone?

Re: arrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! - 11/09/2007 23:39

Advice, yeh its very hard. Pack the hole with filler and in under 6 months time it will look shocking.

Takes alot of time to alloy weld and do them properly. All depends on your standards of course.

But why delock? thats not going to solve it is it?

Re: arrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! - 11/09/2007 23:55

Yeah, of course I want to do it properly.

Well it will stop anyone shoving a screw driver in there again. Is it possible to just remove the barrels from the doors and have the central locking system still in place and working correctly?

The thing I didn't want to happen was to replace all the locks/ignition and end up without ALL 3 keys (which I currently have). Unless you have said items Carl???

Re: arrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! - 12/09/2007 00:02

3 key sets, yeh i'd have them. 2 sets left. No problem there.

Re: arrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! - 12/09/2007 00:34

So just to clarify - you have the ignition barrel, two doors and boot, with all 3 keys?

How much? Tenner? ;\)

I suspect that dull thud in the background was Mr Banks fainting \:D

Re: arrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! - 12/09/2007 11:34

Could you not just replace the outside locks with solex locks?

Those are designed to be screwdriver proof?

Re: arrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! - 13/09/2007 00:43

Really? Good idea! Thanks pfoe - I'll look into this.

Re: arrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! - 13/09/2007 00:58

Looks like they're £35 per lock. Very affordable! Much more so than a set of Fiat locks.
Has anyone fitted these to their car? How did it go?
Cheers.

Re: arrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! - 13/09/2007 18:35

Apparently NO Solex locks will fit a Fiat Coupe. Back to square one!

Anyone know anything similar to this that WILL fit?

Thanks.

Re: arrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! - 13/09/2007 18:46

The original ones?

There's no way of fixing a coupe on the cheap, it doesn't happen, its just what things cost.

I'll have to if I can't find anything else.

Re: arrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! - 13/09/2007 19:31

Ahhh it does make a lot of sense, though i do feel it may ruin the coops sexy lines.

@Robin can you not get a set of generic solex locks that are a similiar size?

Re: arrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! - 13/09/2007 19:41

Just glue a black plastic cap over the hole

Elastoplast would give it a more pikey look though.

tut, obviously to fit flush with the black surround \:P

Out of sight out of mind for the sort of moron that sticks screwdrivers in locks

I emailed the guys that sell them and they advised they wouldn't fit. Guess they know more than I do.

Thinking about this. The ol' man's an engineer and very very handy when it comes to things like this. I'll leave he's mind to wander a bit and no doubt he'll come up with something if I don't replace the locks in some way.
