Re: So, who bought this one then???? - 31/10/2007 21:18

so who did you sell it to? ;\)

Re: So, who bought this one then???? - 31/10/2007 21:18

IIRC the guy that purchased from you sold it not long after as he wanted a 20vt (I think?)

Sounds like you must of sold it to Marty McFly who modded it with a flux capacitor to wind those miles away.

Re: So, who bought this one then???? - 31/10/2007 21:39

See PROOF that part service histories are exactly that. The part traders and dodgy scammers want you to see. Afraid I have little sympathy with whoever bought it. Suppose they deserve to know they were foolish to buy it though.

But come on 49k from a ten year old car, how can anyone be soooo stupid. Low mileage freaks.

Re: So, who bought this one then???? - 31/10/2007 21:42

what if it has been clocked back from 100k+, but has been well looked after since carl sold it?

maybe whoever bought it bought on condition and not mileage \:P

Re: So, who bought this one then???? - 31/10/2007 22:04

I suppose the problem with the car was because it was cherished by Carl, its condition was probably far better than the original mileage would suggest. The person who purchased it probably had no reason to question it.

At least for the back half of the car! \:D

Re: So, who bought this one then???? - 31/10/2007 22:58

its not totally unbelievable for a 10year car to have 50k!

my 11 year old 16vt has 70k, FSH before anybody says anything! \:\)

The suggestion is that it has been clocked as it now has fewer miles than 3 years ago, was that not clear?

Re: So, who bought this one then???? - 31/10/2007 23:33

yes that was clear!

I feel sorry for whoever has bought it.

They're probably thinking they've bought a cracking car when in truth, all is not as it seems!

Re: So, who bought this one then???? - 01/11/2007 01:23

Yup, I feel sorry for those people who take a punt on a car believing it'll be sound. My mate bought a Passat last year, 3 years old with 76,000 on the clock, private sale from a guy who bought it from a leasing company 1 month previously. The full service history was with the leasing company, but the car was so immaculate inside and out my mate never expected it to be clocked becasue the mileage was well above average for it's age. The company sent on the FSH after he bought it, for the car which had an odometer reading of almost 150,000miles at its last service three months previously!!!

I don't thjink that Passat was ever stationary in those three years! The FSH was very comprehensive though lol. It was on it's 3rd timing belt!

Re: So, who bought this one then???? - 01/11/2007 01:41

What spec/colour was the car?
Posted By: sugerbear

Re: So, who bought this one then???? - 01/11/2007 01:49

I disagree

old car+low mileage+lack of service history = clocked. I bet all the MOT certificates are missing for the last three years as well.

Of course, maybe they just wrote the wrong mileage down on the ad or maybe it had a new engine and that engine had only done 49k.

It was Carls old 16v that had a full repray in some shade of metallic blue.

I think the guy who bought it off carl damaged it shortly after as well.

I have an 8yr old 20vt with only 46k on clock. Has every receipt, full service and all the previous mot certs! So not impossible or am I just lucky lol Belonged to an old farmer \:\)

I am not saying that low mileage cars dont exist, just that low mileage cars with no or part histories are 99.9% clocked. even ones with low mileage and just dealer stamps with nothing else to support are likely to have been clocked. rubber stamps and log books are easy to come across .

and at least you have evidence that your car has done that mileage from more than one source (mot, receipts etc)

Re: So, who bought this one then???? - 01/11/2007 02:57

I would much rather have a folder full of receipts and MOTs, than a book with some stamps in it.

Didn't it get starved of oil?

Oh yeah, I think I can remember carl getting a little excited at something. Think I think he pranged it as well.

I imagine he is one of Carl's bestest friends in the whole world ever now \:D

Re: So, who bought this one then???? - 01/11/2007 04:44

Hmmmm completely agree.

Mine was very low mileage when I bought it, but luckily the guy selling it had every scrap of paperwork right back to when the car was new - and because he owned 3 other cars it was obvious that the coupe had just been a weekend car.

A work colleague of mine recently sold his Peugeot 306 with a digital mileage counter. He'd done 130k miles in it but he knew a local guy who could clock cars. £50 quid paid and 15 mins later the cars mileage reads 65k miles.

He had to loose the recent history though but just goes to show how easy it is!

I guess the lesson is don't buy a car without full history and loads of receipts.

Well done Vicks.

Yes the prick sold the car because he emailed me one night.......

Basically asking what oil it uses because the oil GAUGE not the dipstick had gone low and the top up light was on. So i explained thats actually the pressure gauge, got ratty, anyway, engine was basically shot, had used with the light coming on a 0 bar for a day. Put 3 litres of oil in and it went on the forum for sale about 2-3 days later.

Yes the front lips got whacked off, in 4 weeks, 8 inch of the bonnet bashed and the n/s rear quarter.

So the so called perfectionist who thought he had standards better than myself (had a shock when he viewed the car) ran it OUT of oil, smashed the lips off, bashed the bonnet and blamed the postie and the n/s quarter. I get fccccuked off this happens when i put soooo much effort into the cars, that when it left was without doubt the best 16v there is. Now, well its done 30k in reverse, history (about 10 stamps and 3k in reciepts) will have vanished and some slob has flattened the drivers seat \:mad\: \:mad\: \:mad\:

Re: So, who bought this one then???? - 01/11/2007 13:14

Well it's somewhat a compliment to your good work Carl. Someone must have thought the paint looked so nice that they could easily wind back the clock a fair bit and nobody would notice \:D

So who's going to get in touch with the DVLA then?

Re: So, who bought this one then???? - 01/11/2007 18:31

Do not be fooled by receipts either. They are easily made up as well. Service books are easy to get hold of, and even stamped ones on the net !! V check is always advisable, and i would phone the companies on the receipts to check the car out. I did this on a Passat V6, and found from the VW dealer, that it had a cam belt done less then 10000 miles ago, but no record of it, saving me quite some money!!
Cars like BMW, Audi and Mercedes have central held records, so you give the car's details, and they will send a printout of all servicing done. This should be compulsive on all vehicles. Would stop a lot of clocking. Digital speedos are now so easy to do, then mechanical types.
People that clock cars are parasites period!! \:mad\:

Any proof, what do you use on the continent to prove mileage ?

yeah right, according to my last MOT my car lost almost 90,000 miles between tests. Basically the mileage was down at 95k, then the next year they put it down as 9800 (missing off a 0).

I didnt notice until after. Hope that won't cause any issues.

Re: So, who bought this one then???? - 01/11/2007 20:05

I have the same on one of my MOT's. Didn't register on the HPI either.

Re: So, who bought this one then???? - 01/11/2007 20:20

So it may appear next year that you've done 90,000 miles in a year ;). thats some going.

I´m the second owner of this car,i bought this car with 24000 miles,

The first owner had all the work done in a fiat garage with all the receipts with the miles, and the inspections papers (mot i think in uk )as the miles too.

And of course if you have seen the car you will now that the mileage is true ;\)

Cumps.
