Anyone in Alfreton/Matlock?

Anyone in Alfreton/Matlock? - 18/05/2009 05:58

Finally got around to be the 'custodian' of a Broom Yellow 2000 20VT Coupe - so a relative youngster.

Currently going through a snagging list of things that either need doing I missed when I bought the car!

Would like to catch up anyone local to give me a heads up on what the priorities are and the issues I need to look out for.

Cheers

Richard

Don't forget to check your oil smile

Cheers! - although generally sound the closer you look the more things need sorting out or dealing with. But the car is over nine years old!

I have made contact with Paul at Motor Mech to replace the rears disk pads, brake cable and front pads - so that a start.

My overall plan is focus on mechanical, then on the bodywork. At some point (due to fading) the car was resprayed - which in areas is not really up to my standard. Apparently Yellow is really hard to match properly.

But on the positive side its is a genuine one owner, has all the keys, paperwork and has been maintained (even if though by a FIAT main dealer!)

Matt - my email address is rjdw@mac.com so would be good catchup.

Regards

Richard

I'm in Brassington, don't mind having a nosey around your car at some point next week if it'll help. Best to get it to MotorMech though for a good check over.

Yes it is the one formerly owned by the Kitchen Shop over in Streetly - you obviously know or viewed the car yourself?

Curious to what you know about the car!

As I said I'm snagging the obvious issues first, the will concentrate on bodywork then paintwork.

Cheers

I live near South Wingfield, currently the coupe only really comes out during weekend.

Hi Tim

Yes always good to get an alternative heads up on what the priorities are - I am hoping to take it over to Birmingham early next month.

yes i looked it over....and it drives superb ...but i soon saw it needed work and ruled it out on his high asking price so i d be interested to know how much it went for.....

i know they say they shoot the messanger but i feel i should tell you to budget for a turbo as it was showing clear symptoms of iminent failure... this is nt a problem depending on the price you payed ,hence my interest.... and the rest is a bit of general maintenance and the paintwork....

south wingfield .... nearly bought there, the white cottage thats shored up and the house next door/attached that was a bit derelict (25000 & 6000 respectively 1985)
nice place good motorway links laugh

Hi Bosco - Yes your probably right the turbo is a likely candidate for failure though I reckon I have around 3,000 miles or so left in first, so I will simply phase the work in over the coming year. But as the Coupe is not the main car then there is no pressure for it to be on the road at all times.

Owning a coupe was never going to be a cheap option, especially as this has been a bit neglected of late, so all the consumables need changing first.

That said - it drives fantastic, has all the paperwork from new, all the keys and will not have been thrashed so its a real balancing act

Needless to say I did not pay the full asking price, but by the time I have replaced the rear tyres and rear disks & pads and front pads and a few other bits then I will be back up to his list price!

But I see this as an ongoing light overhaul.

Thanks for your tip off re the turbo!

Drives well !! shocked me it was so good and reminded me of my own....To be honest on a coupe like that, imo the purchase price is relatively irrelevant and more important is the total cost of making it an A1 reliable car.....

imo, you ve very much got the basis and it ll make a very desirable coupe in the future.. especially if its just a second car...

Hopefully during the summer (if it ever stops raining) it will be zooming up and down the A38 to Derby where I work though only on Fridays. (I car share the other days)

I think part of the fun is actually bringing it back upto scratch or a least to a level where I am satisfied. I don’t really have the patience to bring to show level – but you never know!

These days I rarely see any Coupes on the road, so it is always fun taking mine out. Interesting to find out how many are still on the road out of the 7,000 or so that made it to the UK.
