AARRGH!! Really annoyed, was following a MM lorry yesterday and it had stones flying out all over the place, resulting in several stone chips and two hits on my windscreen....great.....

If you have the details you should complain to the employer and tell them that you intend to claim for the damage.
i'm sure someone on here has done that once.

Yes I thought this might be possible but it was in busy traffic and I couldn't get the details!!!

Don't let it go away. Think hard.
Can you remember the exact time and place. Go back there if possible and get pics of the debris if it's still around.
If you're struggling for detail just write to the Highways Agency and tell them all you can remember.
They didn't quibble when I hit them with a claim about six years ago and I got a much-needed £600-odd full front end respray after they hadn't cleared the hard shoulder and I got pebble-dashed by the lorry in front when we were among the first group of cars to go through it.
Good luck.

I had almost the identical thing happen to me ten years ago.
I was taking my eldest daughter to plymouth Uni for her first term. Just past Bristol, a motorway service lorry hit a bump up ahead and a shower of gravel came off the back.
Some bits came towards me, like it was slow-motion, and hit the leading edge and top of the bonnet. I knew there would be damage so we grabbed the contractors details off of the lorry.
When I got Home the next day I rang the contractor.
Initialy they denied responsability, they said "people tried it on all the time".
I told them if they did not settle my claim I would go directly to the department of transport and make a claim from them for using a contractor that operated with unsafe loads!! The likely outcome of which could be a major motorway accident.
Probably fearing the loss of their big contract they paid for a front end respray by a top class bodyshop.
So if you can remember the company that opperated the lorry it would be worth a try.
Tim
PS I had no Reg number
