Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt

Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt - 23/07/2009 12:38

So.....I'm reading my Auto Italia and it says that fccuk are going to attempt to break the world record for the number of coops in one place at the Autumn Auto Italia event. Has his been discussed anywhere on here at all?

I've seen it briefly mentioned but thought it might be good to get a topic up and going on it specifically as I think we should make one HUGE concerted effort to do this.

Thing is, do we know the current record or of any other attempts? It would be great for us all to really have a good go at this, and it's not long off now! Maybe even get some sort of promotion of the event with t-shirts/stickers etc?

I appreciate this should maybe be in a meet/events thread but please mods can we keep this thread in general chat as it will hopefully involve disussion of the whole record attempt and what it may entail.

Finally, forgive me if there are or have been discussions or threads on this already.

Cheers

Ah, if only you spent the £15 and joined the Club, then we'd be able to tell you all about this! laugh

Anyway, I'll let one of the other board members tell you about the issues we're having with this frown

Re: Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt - 23/07/2009 12:41

It was discussed in the members section. It was decided, however, that there was insufficient time to set it up for this year and to defer it until next year.

There was a bit of a mis-communication with AI whereby an enquiry was made about staging it at the Gaydon event and they seem to have gone ahead and published it before we had confirmed it would go ahead.

Ah right, I see. That's a shame! Still, can we do a dry run this year and get a huge turn out, along the lines of Brooklands this year??? (but with me actually there with the (hopefully) healthy coop!)

Did you renew your membership for this year? Your '08 - '09 membership was due for renewal in April.

Best give bockers a shout.

this would be amazing- i would definitely want to be part of this.

Re: Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt - 23/07/2009 19:41

not saying that the dates would be the same but might have to be about the same time as the agm for 2010 as we would already have about 40 coupes together to go to gaydon, but we would need to have 85 for a record but would be nice to have 100,round it off

Re: Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt - 23/07/2009 22:39

I honestly think if its promoted heavily here we could EASILY beat 100.

Re: Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt - 23/07/2009 23:46

The team have been working on this idea for some time but have come up against a few problems.

The first is the actual recording of Coupé numbers. It was decided that we would need to get a venue where ALL the Coupés could be photographed, in isolation of all other vehicles. This would enable the club to submit its own record verification backed up with photographs. This would save the club the £2000+ fee for an official GWR adjudicator.

As Cowboy has already pointed out the AGM normally attracts a good number of Coupé owners so we decided that we would plan an attempt in conjunction with the 2009 club AGM. A benefit of this decision was that there was also a Gaydon Auto Italia event on that weekend too, further increasing the chances of a large coupé turnout. The problems started when Auto Italia / Gaydon informed us that they would have to charge an extra fee, over and above the entry fee, to each and every coupé participating in the assembly on the circuit, there was also a further issue regarding taking photographs on the circuit at Gaydon! We were offered the possibility of a specific parking area but we were unsure how separate from all other cars this would be. We need to be able to provide clear photographic evidence of all the Coupés together if we were to secure a record.

With the club committed to a Hotel booking for the AGM in Solihull, we were limited to what other venue we could use. Some places were contacted but we had to consider that if we did make plans to go elsewhere, on Sunday, we would then have to completely pull out of the Auto Italia event. The club decided that such a move would not probably be in the best interests of the club or its members.

So that is where we are. I have to say that I was shocked to see the attempt announced in Auto Italia. Beyond the initial enquiry, and a few the subsequent emails there has been little communication, and no commitment was ever made.

The recent decision in the member’s area was to postpone the attempt until 2010, do people think that is the best option?

I agree that a discussion in the general forum will reach out to more people. I, for one, would be prepared to 'donate' towards the attempt regarding the extra fee auto italia/gaydon were proposing for a location but it is obviously a difficult one to get everyone else to agree to in short notice. But is it worth maybe getting an initial response to the possibility of doing it this year?

Is photographic evidence going to be sufficient? It's very easy to add the odd coupe or two with photoshop these days!?!?

Thanks for clearing up the current situation for us thus far Bob smile

Re: Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt - 25/07/2009 12:06

I admit I was surprised this was only discussed in the members area!

I think just getting an idea of numbers interested in taking part would be a good start. As far as I'm aware we all had to give an email address to join so there is a start, a blanket email to every club and forum member asking for their interest.

I imagine there are hundreds of member interested in this that know nothing about it, there are plenty of guys and girls who only come on here once in a blue moon, usually when something goes wrong!

Got to be worth a punt surely?

Re: Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt - 26/07/2009 23:39

I think the banking at Brooklands is ideal at the spring auto italia, we can use the bridge for the aerial shot. That's my thoughts on it!

p.s. I've never been to Gaydon so can't comment on its suitability but I think the history at brooklands make it a great location.

Here's mine on the banking last year...I'll see if I can find photo's from the bridge.

I really think this is do-able, I realise alfa normally have that spot but maybe we do it very early or at the end of the day, or even make it a main feature of next years show........

It’s only an idea at this stage – reason it’s not happening at the AGM is there’s not time to get it properly organised, not because of a failure to get enough people.

I agree that the required numbers could probably be achieved, but I don’t think it’s going to be a 2 minute job to organise and the more time that is allowed to get it prepared properly then the more likely it is to be a success. I guess at the very least it’ll turn out to be a very good meet, even if the record attempt wasn’t successful. smile

it might be an idea if bob was to ask these ppl if we could do it here, its right smack in the middle of the uk and have the 2010 agm around there, its only an idea as was looking at his post and thoght he might get a good chance being that one of our coupes is going there sone.

If Coupes tried to park on the Brooklands banking, there would be a world record number of Coupe accidents in one place, as at least half of them would simply roll down the slope

simple, use blocks like the 599 and lambo's did this year!

I think it would look superb.

At which venue?

Re: Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt - 27/07/2009 21:57

Brooklands I know Gaydon wanted £25 each thats why it was put too one side while we think of another venue.

Re: Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt - 27/07/2009 22:54

Can we tentatively look into costs and implications of doing it at Brooklands, the position on the banking is tailor made for it.

It could be that we do it at the end of the day or somehow get that section of the site on the day. The one area has a mix of cars, maybe its an over-flow area?

Would there then be an additional charge at all even?

Re: Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt - 28/07/2009 05:04

I think it needs to be more central to get the numbers.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt - 28/07/2009 07:38

Maybe so, why not get a poll going on it? It may be that wherever it is, if its made into a real concerted effort to break the record then that may sway owners from all over the uk (and maybe abroad?) regardless of distance.

stanford hall?

Re: Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt - 28/07/2009 14:17

Why not get the names and rough location of those who would be interested in turning up. Then pick the venue closest to the highest concentration of coupes?

Also has anyone spoken to Fiat? Maybe they can help sponsor it somehow. They could even set up some new Fiat 500s to one side for sale or something...

Re: Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt - 28/07/2009 14:42

I think we need mailshots to all the registered email addresses of the forum members advertising the possibilty of doing this at various locations and to guage where is most popular, as you say.

The smallish number of responses to this thread indicate not many know of the proposed ideas and we need to get the message out to every member on here.

Re: Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt - 28/07/2009 18:48

its probably a relatively small percentage of Coop owners who are FCCUK club/forum members. however its probably a substantial percentage who come onto the forum- when something goes wrong usually. of course they may use this forum or the Fiat one. we should therefore put a big notice on the welcome page for the FCCUK club site as well as this forum- so its the first thing they see. maybe get the Fiat forum guys to do the same? and AutoDS too? if someone is looking up Fiat Coupes on the internet it either means they have one or are a potential owner. what do you reckon?

Re: Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt - 21/03/2010 09:24

It will not be happening at Brooklands that is for sure.

It takes a massive amount of organising and some considerable cost too. At present the club board do not have the time to undertake this unless someone is willing to volunteer to organise it with club help?

Re: Fiat Coupe World Record Attempt - 21/03/2010 14:45

What about setting up a little mini committee of people willing to put some time into getting this sorted?

I'd be willing to get involved.......as for cost, if everyone who wanted to join in was willing to put a tenner in or something, that would go a long way to paying expenses.

P.S. does it necessarily have to happen at an event....could you not organise this as a one off?
