She's gone....

She's gone.... - 28/04/2010 22:02

Well, wasn't sure where to post this so thought I might as well just put it in here.

The day has finally come to say goodbye to my beloved Coupe. I've had her 6 years and spilled blood, sweat and tears (and bucket loads of cash) over her, but loved evey minute of it laugh

But she just became way too costly to keep on the road so she had to go.

Wasn't going to get much money for her if I sold her so, with a heavy heart, I put her in under the Scrappage deal against a brand new Fiat 500 1.4L Sport. I'll miss the silver bullet, but at least I have nice new shiney to help me get over it.

I must say a BIG thanks to the guys and girls in the forums for putting some great info on these pages which helped me keep the coupe on the road as long as I did and to the guys I bought parts from to help make her even more special.

Thanks for all the help guys and girls and I hope all the Coupe owners love theirs as much as I loved mine.

I'll still poke my nose in here from time to time and I'm sure I'll post in when I spot one out on the road.

So I'll see you around, I'll be the nutter with the silly grin in the grey 500 waving at you laugh

shocked

You've done your time I guess, but I can't imagine ever getting rid for financial reasons.

That is to say, I have a soft spot for a Z4M Coupe, but I could spend a couple of grand on the old girl every year for a long time before I get near that sort of money.

It's a shame it's gone in for the scrappage scheme, but hope you enjoy your new car.

Glad to see you'll still be popping in here now and again smile

Ah well, all is done.

At least it spread the coupe love by donating its interior shiney bits to my car laugh

Have fun with the 500!

Car, any condition with MOT: two grand.
Car, new belts and clutch and hose of death: eighteen hundred.

Sadly, it's a no brainer.

You might get two grand for you car but you still have to find another 10k or whatever to pay for the new one - and (although slightly reduced) fuel road tax tyres etc

I know Neil but it doesn't make it any less painful frown

Exactly. And £2000 off a new car probably won't even cover its depreciation in year 1... Its only worth it if having a brand new car is important enough to you to spend the extra cash. Still a real shame to scrap a Coupe... cry

Hope you enjoy the 500 though, it is a lovely little car!

Re: She's gone.... - 29/04/2010 12:51

Oh I agree entirely. Never worked out why someone with a perfectly good car would sell it... but then, I drive cars for a couple of hundred thousand.

My point was that a *good solid* coupe with history is often worth less than the scrappage scheme; one without history or in need of belts or clutch or with some niggly engine issue is worth a grand more scrapped than in autotrader.

Not good.

Trust me, it was a painful decision that I have mulled over for over a year. The coupe has cost me on average £1000 per year besides insurance, tax, fuel just to keep it on the road.

If I could have sold it for £2000 I would have much rather done that, hated to see her go to the srapmam but simple economics says it's the best bet, didn't make it any less painful to drive away and leave her there though......

But, the 500 might be ugly from the front especially compared to the coop, but been out driving today and averaged 46mpg around town......and pulled away quicker from the lights (well in sports mode anyway) and if anything goes wrong IT GOES BACK TO THE DEALER no questions asked just "fix it ...and NOW!"

No more lying in the road changing brake pads or suspension struts and springs or wondering if today is the day the cam belt snaps.

Ofc, all these things could in theory go wrong with the new car, but then it's the dealer's problem to fix it...not mine.

I do miss the Coupe though, this feels like sitting in a lorry in comparison due to the ride height....lol

I just got a PM from a member on here (won't reveal their name as it would seem a bit unfair).

They spotted a front bumper off of a 20V n/a for sale on eBay and asked if it was off my car......and it was!!!!!

Only scrapped it into the dealers on Wednesday and already she's being taken apart by the scrap man....

PIccies are under way, just need the weather to sunny up again and give her a quick wipe down laugh

Just for Nello, here are the piccies of my little Tonka toy laugh

But yeah still in Cov, can't seem to find the way out...dammit tongue

Kinda hard to miss on the Cov ring road with that roof combined with the warp factor I tend to go round there at, though never breaking the speed limit of course ........

I do miss the styling of my Coupe though, if I ever get the money together, I'll buy a 20VT and strip then rebuild/re-engineer it to make it perfect laugh

VERY nice Fariniac, We love ours. Surprisingly comfi as well, Oh, if you EVERY manage to get the stereo to play MP3's from a USB stuck in some kind of order by folder, let me know..... I still haven't worked it out (or got eco drive to work)

Re: She's gone.... - 31/05/2010 11:47

Ah well, I never use the eco drive. As for the mp3/usb stick if it's playing in random order just press that magic windows button, wait for the prompt and say "shuffle off" then it plays tracks in order per folder and the folders in alphabetical order.

I always have shuffle on as I use a 16GB stick loaded full of tunes and like to have a mix of tracks.

Btw, which 500 did you go for? I do sometimes think I should have gone for the lounge, but I do love the sport:D

Re: She's gone.... - 31/05/2010 11:48

Nice one mate thumb I'll look out for you....

If I'm in town I only ever park in the lower ground floor of the Belgrade Plaza - where the Parent and child spaces are - loadsaroom and no-one uses it much. Theres always a Metallic Blue 500 in there for some reason.

The chap from Angel Tuning in Harbury (near Leam') is now doing loads of 500 work/parts/accessories etc.....

Re: She's gone.... - 31/05/2010 11:53

Yeah, I've looked at that. Currently has 100bhp it'll go upto 120bhpish after a good tune but I'll wait until the 1st year of warranty is over before I do anything like that.

I love you laugh

We went for the lounge because of the cheep road tax and cheaper insurance.
Didn't like the trim level on the pop.

I'm saving at the moment to replace my miniature fleet with a 1.4 sport (were looking 2 years+)
